Now the candidate for great elder was no longer Ling Fei, but not yet known. All necrocultivators who were of or above the four-chambered state and qualified to contest for the position brimming with excitement!
However, the great elder soon threw a bucket of cold water on them.
“Skinny Tiger, step forward.”
A slender, middle-aged man stepped out from the crowd. Funnily, his face was covered with a black tiger mask, yet he emitted a greatly contrasting, extremely chilly aura. Even Siu Fu couldn’t help but take a glance at him.
Skinny Tiger was a special presence in the tribe. Unlike the rest of the members, he entered the tribe through an unnatural method. Having an innate heart chamber was a prerequisite for picking up necrogliphism; in other words, all necrocultivators were gifted beings. However, there was an exception known as the gliph grafting method, a skill unique to necrogliphism.
The process involved suppressing cultivators who had already broken through with pure death energy and forcefully removing the gliph originally tattooed on them! Often, the instant gliphs were tattooed on cultivators, they become part of them like an arm or a leg. Thus, damage to gliphs brought about deadly injuries, and any careless mistake might cost the cultivator his life.
But with gliph grafting, the cultivator could sustain for a short moment before there was a backlash, and at the same time, thick death energy would seep into the cultivator’s body and feed on his vitality to grow. It’s a good thing, as death energy was an important ingredient for the Deadly Palm gliph.
In summary, gliph grafting was all about forcefully removing the original gliph and tattooing necrogliphism’s Deadly Palm gliph on the heart chamber instead. Of course, the cultivator must have already opened up his heart chamber or the process would not succeed because the Deadly Palm gliph could only be tattooed on the heart chamber.
This unnatural method allowed more people to have the chance to join necrogliphism, but the natural talents who chose to join necrogliphism were displeased with these members – these cultivators without an innate heart chamber that only became necrocultivators because of some special chance – because they believed that the untalented people were unqualified!
Despite their disdain and the rarity of these grafted necrocultivators – less than one in ten – they were just as capable as the natural necrocultivators.
Gliph grafting also gave bestial and plantae faction cultivators a chance to switch course, but it was just as complicated as any other methods of gliphism.
Tattooing gliphs on humans was going against nature since placing ingredients that did not belong to oneself in one’s body was basically body modification and thus anomalous to the world. Therefore, every gliph was a perfect whole in and of itself that could not be damaged, and every ingredient was decided on after thorough consideration and must be suitable to be inserted.
This was the reason why cultivators would experience a change in their cultivation after having gliphs tattooed on them, because the moment a gliph was tattooed on them, it would bring about permanent, irreversible effects.
Gliph grafting was considered going against the heavens twice! So how could there possibly be no side effects?
Every necrocultivator who had been through the process had been through pain beyond description. As mentioned earlier, gliphs were a part of the cultivator’s body, so it was like forcefully removing your bones.
This unimaginable pain was enough to drive a person insane, and those who failed to withstand the pain during the process would have their souls scattered, unable to reincarnate forevermore.
However, a cultivator who successfully withstood the extreme pain would see an extremely huge increase in their capability as the pain played a huge part in improving their mental state.
A small boat that survived the rogue waves would be changed wholly.
There weren’t many necrocultivators who joined the tribe in such a manner, but every one of them was an elite that at least managed to cultivate the Nine Levels of Hell.
Skinny Tiger was one of them.
He wore a funny tiger mask, but this was the same man who took another elite necrocultivator’s life by simply breaking his neck right after he mocked Skinny Tiger for his mask.
Skinny Tiger always stayed lowkey and out of trouble, but there was no one who dared to find trouble with him even now.
“Skinny Tiger, I appoint you as the next great elder of necrogliphism. I hope for you to lead the tribe well and to greater heights.” The great elder ignored the commotion and finished his sentence. Hung Zhin already expected this reaction from his tribe members, but he stuck to the decision that was made even before the Tribemaster went into seclusion.
Gliph grafting, a method that changed a person’s fate, had high requirements for the receiver as well as the conductor. The latter must be an elite above the fourth level of hell.
Hung Zhin was Skinny Tiger’s conductor for the operation.
Thus, Hung Zhin knew well that Skinny Tiger was filled with great hope and passion for the tribe and followed the tribe’s belief sincerely beneath his ice-cold surface.
“I’m unconvinced!” A person with black smoke and a scary aura surrounding him shouted. He was named Sun Choi Bo. Despite his old-fashioned name, nobody dared to offend him because he was already in the third level of hell, even stronger than Law Sum who had already passed on!
“How can a grafted become our tribe’s great elder!? It’s an insult!” Sun Choi Bo was surrounded with death energy as if he wanted to start a fight the next second, but Hung Zhin on his throne wore a rare smile.
Hung Zhin had always been known for his cruel and determined methods of killing, but now, he was no different from a benevolent old man. “That’s none of my business.” He chuckled.
“I decide who I want to appoint, and you guys can settle it amongst yourselves when Skinny Tiger takes over the role.” Hung Zhin shrugged, but there was nothing that Sun Choi Bo could say. After all, the old man was already counting his days, he couldn’t possibly fight a person who was about to leave the world, right?
Thus, the elite Sun Choi Bo chose to close an eye for the time being, and his fellow tribe elites followed, but this did not stop them from glaring at Skinny Tiger and planning to take action afterwards.
“I gift you, the next great elder, my treasure – the Asura Throne. This is just like my other treasure, made by the Tribemaster personally, and now, it’s yours. As for whether you’ll receive any other treasures from the Tribemaster in the futre, it’s none of my business.”
