This was a part of himself that Kam Chin Kee had suppressed for three lifetimes. Beneath his strong-willed front as a ruthless assassin, Kam Chin Kee was an emotional person.

The ideal state for an assassin was to remain a stranger to the world so they could take lives in the dark.

But Kam Chin Kee was no longer part of an assassin’s sect, nor was he an assassin anymore. He even held his breath under Lam Chun’s gaze today and gave it his all to clinch victory.

He succeeded, received a birthday wish from Chui Yim, drank without activating his energliph, and ended up drunk.

The next day, Chui Yim woke up with a hangover gathering strength like an oncoming storm. However, he was in a better state than the drunken Kam Chin Kee.

He took the hangover tea Lam Ming Sum made him under the murderous look of Kan Hang. To Chui Yim and Lam Ming Sum, this was just an ordinary day of theirs; Lam Ming Sum made Chui Yim hangover tea whenever he treated himself with wine back in Southary.

“Brother Chui, you have a visitor.”

Yeung Chun notified Chui Yim the instant he walked into the living room with a cup of tea.

A man sat upright quietly with his eyes shut. All he did was sit, yet it gave off a peaceful aura. Hearing Yeung Chun, he opened his eyes.

It seemed like golden light beams shot out of his orbs in an instant.

Such a powerful aura! Chui Yim’s heart skipped a beat. But it didn’t take long for him to recognise the man, which left him weirded out.

Why is he here?

“Benefactor Chui,” the man spoke without moving his lips.

“You can speak?” Chui Yim was stunned. “Aren’t you cultivating some style that requires you to remain silent? That’s what everyone says.”

“I practice ventriloquism.” The visitor smiled gently. He was the founder of Apex Temple, Mute.

Just like the rumours, Mute cultivated the Silence style, thus he couldn’t speak with his mouth. The Silence style of ancient Buddhism that Mute believed in prohibited speech in order to reduce bad karma from words. What Chui Yim wasn’t aware of was that even using ventriloquism was considered as violating the precept, and Mute would need to extend his cultivation by at least five years after this conversation.

Chui Yim sat down by the black table that Yeung Chun wiped till it was shiny. “I wonder what brings the mighty boss of Apex Temple here to my humble abode.”

Being a veteran Buddhist, it didn’t matter to Mute that Chui Yim made his institution sound like a gang, and he flashed Chui Yim a gentle smile. “After meeting Benefactor Chui yesterday, Buddha gave this monk a message that Benefactor Chui has a predestined affinity with Buddhism. Thus, this monk is deliberately violating a precept to meet Benefactor Chui in the hopes that Benefactor will come to Buddhism. This monk will be considered to have done a good deed by bringing Benefactor over to Buddhism.”

Chui Yim was stunned, whilst Yeung Chun and Lam Ming Sum burst out in laughter.

“Brother Chui… he’s right. You indeed have predestined affinity with Buddha! Hahaha!” Lam Ming Sum laughed as she patted Chui Yim’s bald head.

“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean!?” Chui Yim spoke in a sharp tone and batted Lam Ming Sum’s hands away. “Being bald doesn’t mean that I’m a monk!”

“That’s not the reason.” Mute shook his head. “Benefactor Chui has predestined affinity with Buddha not because Benefactor cut off the three thousand threads of affliction, but because Benefactor Chui is the reincarnation of a Buddhist disciple and has acquired a special body of Buddhism.”

This made Yeung Chun and Lam Ming Sum laugh even louder, but Chui Yim had a pinched expression.

What did he say? Reincarnated? Although I’m not from any Buddhist sect, he’s right about me reincarnating. Is it a lucky guess… or just spewing nonsense?

“If you’re trying to get me into your institution by spouting nonsense, I’m afraid it’s impossible.” Chui Yim stared at Mute, but he couldn’t spot any changes in his expression as he was as mysterious as ever.

“Amitabha. Buddhism never forces, we only talk about fate. It doesn’t matter even if Benefactor Chui does not understand this monk’s words. All Benefactor needs to know is that you have predestined affinity with Buddha.”

With that, Mute fished out a worn out book from his sleeves. “This is the secret style of our institution – Invincible Diamond Body. Benefactor Chui can cultivate it during your free time, it’s beneficial to one’s body.”

Chui Yim squinted his eyes. He might be loud, but he wasn’t an empty vessel. After reading tons of books, Chui Yim had knowledge about Apex Temple too.

This Invincible Diamond Body was one of Apex Temple’s secret styles, and it consisted of three states – bronze skin, steel bones, and gold body. Only by reaching the gold body state would the cultivator be considered to have the Invincible Diamond Body, able to withstand weapons, fire, and water even without activating energliph. He or she would be no different from a human weapon.

Only Mute had reached the gold body state in Apex Temple. It was a careful decision when Mute chose who to pass down this style to, and he had to consider many factors, including the person’s enlightenment state, to decide which state of Invincible Diamond Body he should learn up till. His best disciple was only at the beginning of steel bones.

This proved how tedious this style was to cultivate, but it also proved how powerful this style was.

The total capability and survivability of a glipher was based on their physical ability. For example, speed and strength greatly affected one’s performance.

The best cultivation style known to the world that improved the physical body was only the Invincible Diamond Body of Apex Temple. Even the Metallic Blood War Gate’s Hundred Battle Refinement Body was worse.

Rumour had it that the Metallic Blood War Gate was eyeing this style for a long time, but despite all their efforts to obtain it, they only acquired the methods to bronze skin and steel bones, which weren’t of much use to those who already had the Hundred Battle Refinement Body.

“Monk, why are you so generous?”

Mute placed his hands together. “Because Benefactor is fated with Buddhism, and Benefactor will definitely take the right path someday. This small cultivation style is to facilitate Benefactor’s journey and forge good karma between this monk and Benefactor.”

With that, Chui Yim took the book. It looked new, and Chui Yim realised the ink hadn’t fully dried; it was obviously written the day before.

“Then I’ll gladly accept this gift.”

Mute placed his palms together and bowed before standing up. “In that case, this monk will take his leave first.”

A small monk stood outside the residence with a paper umbrella in his hands.

He immediately ran towards Mute to cover him when he saw the older man making his way out.

“How was it, Master?”

“Leave it to fate.” Mute shook his head and expressed his thoughts with sign language. This was how Mute communicated with his disciples in his institution normally. His meeting with Chui Yim was already considered violating precept.

This little monk was none other than Yuen Yau, his main disciple. Hesitating, Yuen Yau spoke after a long pause, “Master… that’s Apex Temple’s secret style, though…”

Mute sighed at his words and made signs again. “My stupid child, you put too much importance on this. In Buddhism, we cultivate our minds and practice zen. Zen is the true martial art we practice. Body, heart, consciousness, and mind all require cultivation. We do not improve our physical body alone, but our mental state as well.

“You can add martial arts to zen, but you can’t add zen to martial arts. If you cannot make sense of zen in the future, it will be difficult for you to perform well in life.

“Benefactor Chui seems like a hooligan, but the zen energy around him is natural and he’s a perfect fit to cultivate zen. He would definitely overtake me if he becomes a Buddhist.”

“How is that possible, Master?” Yuen Yau couldn’t believe his eyes.
