CHAPTER 196
"Jade. I am sorry dear. Please talk to me, again."
"Am I not talking to you?" Jade asked her.
She knew she wasn't talking to her because she was still mad at her but Macy was determined, knowing her friend fully well.
When Jade was mad at someone she tried to distance herself from that person at all cost. Seeing the person only brought back the problem she was trying to avoid, at least till she could get over it totally.
"No."
"Sigh, Macy."
"Listen to me. I know you and I want what is best for you. I felt so terrible when I found out you had been kidnapped but now you are back, thanks to Xander. I cannot bear it if anything were to happen to you so please take it easy. But if there is one thing I know with this mate bond, you would be fighting a lost battle if you were to kill Xander. You two are two sides of a coin now. Your fate is tied with his."
"Macy…"
"Wait, Jade." Macy interrupted. "You may think I am saying rubbish and may not want to take this to heart but know this, there is a small party going to be held at Sky's residence for Jenny's birthday next week Monday, perhaps you can use this medium to talk to him and hear him out. It is for your own good."
"There is nothing to discuss with Xander about. The only talking that would be done, is when my bullet pierces his skull."
"Jade, wait."
"I am sorry Macy but please we are still friends but kindly do not bring up Xander's topic to me again. Good night dear."
"Alright. I understand. Whatever you wish. Goodnight Jade."
She ended the call. Her eyes seemed to drift somewhere else other than the phone in her hands as her chest rose and fell, letting out a soft breath slowly.
"I wish you well my friend and perhaps it is time you need but I fear the fact that you may be too far gone to even get that time for yourself. I fear that you would have done the deed before realizing it is too late. But if anything were to happen based on such, I wish you well in overcoming the heartbreak that would come with it."
Macy stood up finally from the chair she sat on and made her way to her bedroom. Ever since the whole incident, she had found it hard to even sleep properly.
Anytime she closed her eyes, she always had a nasty dream that came. It was mo0re of a nightmare and one that she wished shouldn't and wouldn't happen.
She kept on seeing Jade stabbing Xander in the chest, repeatedly until he died with his eyes wide open. It had always scared her because even in the dream after Xander had died, Jade laughed but soon enough she clutched at her chest and spat out blood.
Then she began to cry as well. It was as though the spell or enchantment covering her eyes, suddenly washed off and she saw the truth loud and clear.
She rushed up to Xander, holding his now lifeless body and crying her heart out. Apparently, she couldn't bear the loss anymore and she removed the dagger from his chest and stabbed at her heart too, killing herself in the process.
It always felt so real to Macy anytime she dreamt about it and it was not until Jade killed herself before she would wake up.
But at other times it wasn't the same thing. If she was lucky enough and she was with Jay, he would wake her up in the middle of the nightmare when she began to shake and turn in her sleep.
So Jade did not understand why Macy was pushing her to have a conversation with her beloved. It was just she trying to save their relationship and prevent such tragedy from happening.
She could not bear the thought of losing Jade as well and she knew the effect it would have on Jay if he were to lose one of his best friends.
Right now the two most important people in her life stood to lose something dear to them. And that depended on the life of another man or dragon in this case.
She could not sit and let that happen. She needed to do something fast about it and while Jay and Sky were doing their best to ensure Xander's protection, she needed to persuade the determined killer lest she loses both as well.
"How did it go?" Jay asked out of the blue when Macy stepped into her room.
She had almost forgotten that her boyfriend now stayed with her sometimes to help her when the nightmare came.
"Umm…" Macy paused. She did not know exactly what to tell him. He had really hoped that after this time she would be willing to see Xander but the silence of his girlfriend told him otherwise.
"She still refuses to back down?" Jay asked again.
"Hmm." Macy looked down, unable to stare at him even though he looked so handsome to behold right now. It just ached her that impending doom was coming but she could not be of any help.
"It is okay, Macy bae. I understand. Come." He patted the empty space on the bed beside him and waited for her to join him on it and snuggle close into his waiting arms. "It would be fine, I hope."
"That is what I fear, Jay. I do not want uncertainty. I want to be sure she would not kill him. Jade would not want to understand all of this now but in time she would if she give me listening ears."
"She is still healing apparently."
"And let's not forget, she is not thinking straight as well. Her mind is clouded by her grief and rage and I understand but who can save her from herself?" Macy questioned. She pulled away from Jay to look him in the eyes.
"I love her but I am scared. I feel like locking her up for her own good."
"Hahaha ahha… No offense dear, but you, lock up your best friend? Wow, I do not see that happening my dear."
'What are you insinuating that I cannot do it?" Her brows furrowed deeply at Jay for thinking poorly of her capabilities.
"Do not get me wrong, babe. It is just that you are... No not that. Jade holds quite a soft spot in your heart and I fear that you would be too touched to hurt her or even lock her up."
"I can. Especially when she is being stubborn and this is for her own good."
'She may not be so forgiving to you as well. Do not forget, Arctic wasn't thinking so well when he traded her for his daughter but any parent may have done the same giving the situation."
"IU understand. Sigh! I just want what is best for her<" Macy whined and relaxed into Jay's arms again.
"Me too because if this continues and it gets out of hand, I am afraid to say, I cannot guarantee her safety. My duty is to ensure that the dragon race remains and the Dragon Lord is sage, uprooting all threats standing on the way to completion of that task and that includes friends or foe."
Macy's eyes widened but dimmed almost instantly. "You wouldn't do that, would you?"
"I am sorry but if it comes down to it, I am afraid I have no choice."
"Let's hope not. I believe it won't get to that."
"My dear, even if Xander, the Dragon Lord wishes to die by the hand of his beloved, we are sorry. Sky, Jenny, and I have a duty to uphold, we cannot allow his demise. We would put our lives on the line for him, just to ensure he is safe and sound and the lineage of the Warner continue."
With all these things Jay was saying., Macy began to feel scared. She knew just from one look at his determined eyes that if he was in that situation as he said, then he would not hesitate to take Jade down.
This was the problem when you have friends from different sides and are against each other. She felt her own heart was torn in two just from hearing all of this.
Subconsciously, Macy clutched her hands to her chest and closed her eyes as a silent wish was made.
"But for your sake and theirs, let's wait and watch." He pressed a kiss to the side of her face and leaned backward with Macy till their head touched the pillow and their backs were to the bed.
"Sleep darling. You need to rest your head and think happy thoughts."
"I would try but please, do hold me close to yourself, Jay."
"Anything for you, Mace."
"I just do not want to have this nightmare again."
"This night, you won't. Close your eyes
