The man was not taken aback by his words, but instead, his smile widened even more as he slowly replied, "I am your dad."
Mo Han's body froze as his eyes narrowed slowly, eyeing the man in front of him up and down, "You're lying."
The man shook his head, "I'm not."
Mo Han did not respond and looked at the man for a while longer. From what he could see, this man was not some simple person. Although he was old, he was tall and also had a strong built. His eyes were like dark holes, staring straight into Mo Han's soul.
Most of his skin was hidden underneath his outfit, and his hands were placed into his pant pockets, but just from the area of skin exposed by the low neckline of his shirt, Mo Han could see the edge of a scar. The man had a slight grin on his face, but it wasn't a kind grin, but a more menacing one.
However, Mo Han was also not easy to deal with. If it were some normal person, maybe they would have already peed their pants in the presence of this old man, but Mo Han maintained his composure. Maybe it was also because this man was his father. . .
"Are you not going to invite me in?" The man asked.
Mo Han did not respond, and after several seconds, the man smiled faintly and stepped into the house himself, walking straight past Mo Han.
It took a moment for Mo Han to react as he shut the door and followed the man into his own house. The man somehow managed to find his living room and took a seat on the couch, looking around, "Nice place."
"Get out," Mo Han said.
"That is not the attitude to treat your dad."
"I don't care if you are my dad or not. I'm telling you now to get out. . . I won't be soft on you just because you are my dad." Even though Mo Han did not want to admit that this man was his dad, but there was a strong feeling inside of him telling him that this man was indeed his father.
From the appearance to the overall temperament, it was quiet obvious that this man was not lying.
Hearing Mo Han's threat, the man was not in the least afraid, but instead laughed out loud, which made Mo Han very irritated.
"What? Are you going to use your HLX methods on me?"
Mo Han's pupils dilated as he wondered how his dad knew about his occupation. Even if he was his father, there was no way he figured out what his job was.
"How. . ."
"What can I say? Like father like son," the man laughed, "I have to say I am quite surprised, but also not surprised. Maybe it is in the genetics?"
"What are you talking about?" Mo Han stayed standing as stiff as a stone, clenching his fists together.
"You have been looking for the Si Organization recently, right?"
Mo Han fell back a step, knitting his eyebrows tightly together. How did he know? Seeing this reaction, the man's smile widened.
The Si Organization was Country A's scariest terrorist and underworld group, possibly even worse than the HLX, since they had more frequent movements and attacks than the HLX. Mo Han and his people had been trying to track them down recently but with no result.
"What if I tell you that I am the person you are looking for? The leader of the HLX? Mo Siyan? Si?"
Mo Han felt the temperature in the room drop as he held his breath, unable to believe everything that was happening.
His father was a figure in the underworld as well? Such a large figure at that? Mo Siyan. . . Mo Han did not recognize that name but he certainly knew the code name Si*. It was the name of the leader of the Si Organization.
*helemon's note: Si is the pronunciation for the word death in Chinese! Interesting :)
Mo Siyan seemed to be very pleased with Mo Han's reaction as he pointed towards the couch across from him, "Come on, sit down, sit down. We have a lot to talk about."
As if he was under a curse, Mo Han moved over to the couch and sat down, wanting to hear more. What was his father doing here now?
"Why are you looking for my organization?" Mo Siyan asked, raising a curious eyebrow.
"So I can get rid of you," Mo Han was honest in his words, not hiding his true intentions.
Mo Siyan laughed a little maniacally, "Get rid of me? With your tiny little organization? Good luck with that. . . Remember, Mo Han, I am your father. Do you think a son can beat his father?"
Mo Siyan continued to laugh, "But it's okay. You do not have to get rid of me anymore. There is no need for that, because. . ." Then, he suddenly stopped talking.
He slowly put one finger up and shook his head, "I'll get to that later. Let's first talk about you. Haven't you ever been curious about your father and mother? Why you were born into an adoption center?"
Mo Han dug his nails into his skin, glaring at Mo Siyan, "No."
Mo Siyan ignored his answer, almost as if he hadn't heard it, "Well, let me tell you. I think we should start with your mother, yes, a very beautiful woman. The most beautiful I have ever seen. I was away on a mission trip in another country, you see. This country, Country Z."
Mo Siyan leaned back against the couch, starting his story. Mo Han wanted to cut him off and tell him he wasn't interested, but for some reason, he couldn't open his mouth and say those words. Maybe it was because deep down, he was indeed interested.
"I was injured. Seriously injured. I hid in the backyard of a house, since I had been injured in the residential area. And yes, that was your mother's house. Your grandparents' house to be exact. Your mother was a nice woman, and she had saved me, not knowing who I was."
Mo Siyan's eyes softened as he spoke about Mo Han's mother, "So, after the mission was over, I went back for her. I was going to marry her. She was mine."
Then, Mo Siyan's expression hardened, "But she was engaged already! How could she be engaged? I wasn't going to let that happen."
He turned to Mo Han, "We are quite similar, you see. I was going to get what belonged to me. So, I took her to Country A, where I was. She must have enjoyed the stay there with me."
For some reason, Mo Han did not believe that final line. He did not think that his mother actually enjoyed it. His father seemed a little. . . crazy.
"She got pregnant. . . with you." Mo Siyan paused as his expression darkened and when he spoke again, his voice was deeper than earlier, "But then she ran away! I don't know why she ran away. . . It must have been an accident. And then she gave birth to you and. . ."
Mo Siyan clenched his fists together, "I don't know where she is now."
She must be dead, Mo Han thought, and a hint of sadness swept him, even though he had never seen his mother before.
"But I finally found you after all these years!" Mo Siyan clapped his hands together upon remembering this and he seemed to suddenly remember the reason he was here as he smiled.
"I finally found you, my only son." Mo Siyan sighed, "I am getting old, and I cannot pass the Si Organization to anyone but you. So, you will be my heir."
He was not asking him to be his heir, he was commanding him to be his heir. This, Mo Han did not like.
Mo Siyan excitedly moved over, scooching forward on the couch as he spoke, "You will be the next leader of the Si Organization, and for your HLX. . . Well, give the HLX to me, and together, we will create the strongest underworld group ever to have been seen on this planet!"
He excitedly turned to look at Mo Han, eagerly anticipating his son to agree to his wonderful plan, but his face immediately fell when he heard Mo Han's response.
"No," Mo Han said simply. There was no hesitance or any thought to his answer, and there didn't need to be.
He was not going to give the HLX to him, he was not going to join the Si Organization, he was not going to inherit the Si Organization from him, and most importantly, he was not going to go to Country A with him.
Mo Siyan's face fell and for several seconds, the room was scarily silent. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Mo Siyan laughed. He laughed for several seconds and suddenly stopped, looking straight into Mo Han's eyes as he asked:
"Is it because of An Luxia?"
