"Don't you?" Long Jie retorted. He had enough of her depressing days and it was finally the time to take action. "Don't you have issues to resolve, Mrs. Long?"
"You don't know anything," said Zhenyi, turning her face away from him.
"I do know something." Long Jie gripped her chin in his hand and forced her to look at him again. "I do know something if not anything. You think I don't know that you're avoiding your father these days? I know it and I also know about the looks you give him when you think no one is watching you; the looks of guilt, it appears that you do have something that makes you so guilty that you can't breathe now." He seemed to have taken a momentary pause to add. " I also know the nightmares that haunt you all night. And Zhenyi, I also know the cigarette you have hidden behind the bathroom sink. So, Zhenyi, I do know something."
She stared at him with guilty eyes and tried to avoid looking into it but only if she could...
"I can't see a therapist, Jie." She sobbed like a baby." I can't…."
Long Jie sighed. He didn't know what to do with this situation but he had to, starting from convincing her to check in with a psychiatrist.
"You have to. There is no way I am compromising your mental health," said Long as if his words were ultimate. "You have been hurting Zhenyi and you need to get yourself help."
"I can't, Jie," Zhenyi screamed as she looked into his eyes. Her eyes ablaze. "Do you think I can? I can't. I just can't. I have been reaping what I sowed. I killed my mother, Jie. I killed my mother. I killed my sister too…" and that's how she told him about her dreams. About her forgotten memories.
He paused. His lips parted but no words came out. What could he say now? He did know she had been hurting all along but didn't know why. Now that he knew why...he had no words to utter; to console her.
For the past few months, it had been like she had been existing but somehow not being fully alive. Most of the time, the only thing that she had done was blaming herself for something which was quite inevitable.
She was drowning and needed to find the shore fast.
In the end, Long Jie was not able to persuade Zhenyi to see the therapist.
____
Many days had passed since Long Jie watched Zhenyi having another meltdown. After that day, Zhenyi had changed overnight. She was just like what she was before her accident; cold, mean, and...workaholic.
To everyone else, she was healing but to Long Jie, she was pretending.
However, he didn't expose her act, and neither did he stop persuading her to see the therapist. She needed one and the end of the story.
It was another night just like many others they had spent in the Xin mansion.
In the dead of night, Long Jie and Zhenyi were sleeping when the knocking on his door was heard.
Zhenyi was a light sleeper and so she woke up first. She was about to get out of the bed when Long Jie caught her hand and shook his head.
"Don't, I will check who is out," said Long Jie and got out of the bed. He opened the door and out he saw a gasping Gu Tian accompanied by the maid who was definitely urging him to not disturb them. But from the looks of the panicked and gasping Gu Tian, Long Jie just knew something was wrong.
"Master, we have to leave now!"
Although Long Jie was trying to appear calm and composed, still his demeanor betrayed him.
"Who is in a grave situation, Gu Tian?"
"Lord Tang. Feng Siyan addressed me a few minutes ago and he informed me that Lord Tang has been flown to London for immediate hospitalization, "said Gu Tian. " Master, it seems that his condition a quite serious."
Long Jie didn't look at Gu Tian and sprinted back to his room when his voice rang.
"Get the jet ready. We are leaving without wasting any time."
Long Ji was only wearing boxer briefs and as he returned to his room, he directly went to the closet to get a suit to dress up.
Zhenyi heard him fumbling through the closet. Initially, she just wanted to go back to sleep but when she saw his anxious expressions, she just couldn't.
"Zhenyi?" Long Jie called her in an anxious voice.
Draping the sheet over her body, she walked towards him. She found a stool near the closet and sat on it.
"What's the matter?" She asked in a sleepy voice.
"I have to leave for Europe now, Love," Long Jie said. He wanted to say something else too but didn't say it.
"When will you be back?" She couldn't help but ask.
He was trying to button his shirt buttons when she raised the very innocent question that she could in her sleepy voice. In the end, he failed to button his shirt.
Zhenyi yawned and rubbed her eyes as she saw him failing to button his shirt again. Why was he so in haste?
Letting the sheet fall, she stood up and walked ahead, and started buttoning his shirt.
"You gotta take care of yourself seriously," uttered Long Jie in concern. He didn't want her to take her health lightly.
Zhenyi just nodded, still buttoning her shirt.
"You will see the therapist I told you about," Long Jie added.
Zhenyi nodded again.
"You must not break your promise," Long Jie again spoke.
And Zhenyi again nodded.
Did he ever tell you that his wife would be as silent as a ghost if she would wish to?
If he didn't...then, he was telling you now.
As she locked the last button, he gripped her chin by his index finger, and spoke," I don't know when I will be back. I don't even know if I could come back empty-handed or not..." His voice cracked. " I was acting strong for a long time now...but it seems it was nothing but a way to hold myself together....He means the world to me, Zhenyi. He was my anchor and saviour during my hard and dark days and hearing that he is battling with death right now is breaking my heart..."
"Jie, he will be alright. You gotta believe in your faith. As long as your prayers are with him he will be alright...Go, Jie. He needs you more. And I will wait for you here," Zhenyi spoke as she wrapped her body against his.
"Wait for me okay? I will come as soon as possible," Long Jie whispered one last time and left...
