Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 81: Its You, Kid, Who Drew the Sacred Bloodline to Us

As Sivirin watched the badly scarred Sword Fish-Dragon hastily flee into the white mist, she fell into deep thought.

This was already the fourth Knowledge Creature she had encountered tonight.

Generally speaking, Sivirin’s nightly Explorations in the Virtual Realm resulted in only one special event, and most of the time, she would just wander around aimlessly—after all, the Sea of Knowledge was vast and the white mist too thick. If it weren’t for a fateful life-or-death connection, encounters in the open sea were incredibly rare.

Yet tonight, she had come across four Knowledge Creatures in succession, which led Sivirin to wonder if it was their breeding season that was causing them to gather in nearby clusters…

However, Sivirin knew the actual reason why she was repeatedly triggering battle events.

She transformed into a Little Bat once again and waited in place. Sure enough, she soon heard the familiar ‘plop’ sound!

Here it comes again!

After hearing this sound for the fifth time, Sivirin could no longer deceive herself into believing it was an illusion.

She could even predict that if she flew towards the direction from which the sound originated, she would definitely encounter another Knowledge Creature—just like the previous four times!

What in the world was going on!

None of the books she had read, such as “A Hundred Years in the Virtual Realm, A Decade in the Sea,” “Poor Sorcerer, Rich Sorcerer,” or “Sailing Ten Thousand Miles,” mentioned anything like this!

The only similar situation was the legendary ‘Mermaid’s Call’: it was said that in the Sea of Knowledge there was a type of Knowledge Creature known as the Femme-Lantern Dragon, which was extremely ugly in its true form. However, its tentacles resembled beautiful mermaids with enchanting looks, sweet voices, and alluring figures. When a sorcerer could not resist the temptation and approached the mermaids, the Femme-Lantern Dragon lurking in the sea would suddenly appear and devour the sorcerer whole.

Yet, Sivirin hadn’t seen any mermaids, nor had she fallen into any traps; it seemed as if the ‘plop’ sound was simply there to guide her to the nearest dwelling of a Knowledge Creature.

She had also considered the possibility of other sorcerers playing a prank on her, but upon reflection, that seemed unlikely—her ultrasonic detection was already top-notch even among the Silver Sorcerer level. Despite this, she could only survey the terrain within three meters of herself; any further and her ultrasonic waves would be blocked by the white mist.

And the sea area she had flown over before robbing the Sword Fish-Dragon spanned nearly a hundred meters.

Even the miracles of the Prophecy Faction or Destiny Faction couldn’t penetrate dozens of meters of white mist. And if they could, that would certainly not be within the capabilities of a Silver Sorcerer.

However, once a sorcerer is Promoted to Golden Two Wings or reaches the Sanctuary of Tri-wings, the Gate of Truth they open can no longer lead to the Sea of Knowledge. The path of a sorcerer is a one-way journey; there is no turning back, and only Silver One Wing sorcerers exist in the Sea of Knowledge.

Besides, she couldn’t fathom why someone would guide her—If someone could actually see through hundreds of meters of white mist, they would easily overpower Sivirin. Wouldn’t it be better to just capture her and demand whatever they wished?

This is the Virtual Realm, and as long as the person concealed their identity, even the Blood Saint would have no one to seek revenge upon.

Thus, Sivirin felt it more likely that she had triggered some mechanism within the Virtual Realm itself, causing it to actively guide her to the nearest Knowledge Creature.

Just like whirlpools, there are many mysterious mechanisms in the Virtual Realm that cannot be decoded—some appear randomly, while others are accidentally triggered by sorcerers.

Take, for example, the ‘Great Path’ of the Sea of Knowledge. Although the Research Institute has yet to find a viable way to trigger it, after synthesizing various data, it has been found that sorcerers who specialize in Earth Magic are most likely to encounter the ‘Great Path’. It is probably the actions of these Earth Magic sorcerers that cause changes in the Virtual Realm, allowing the Great Path to emerge.

Sivirin had read a miscellaneous book called “Phantom World Records,” which recorded many such unverifiable Virtual Realm mechanisms: for instance, if you throw a One Wing spirit into the sea, a masked sorcerer will emerge from the water holding a Two Wings spirit and a Tri-wings spirit, asking you which spirit you just threw in. If you honestly answer “neither,” you are rewarded… Most of the stories within are of this absurd, unearned, and bizarrely triggered fantasy kind.

Although it is nearly impossible to replicate such mechanisms, Sivirin still tried to recall what exactly she had done that could have triggered this mechanism.

Could it be her recent utterance, “I wish to encounter a Knowledge Creature,” that the Virtual Realm had listened to?

“I want to encounter Adventure Island… I want to encounter a whirlpool… I want to encounter a Golden Fish… I want to eat truffle Lala Fatty… I want to condense seven or eight more drops of Colorless Source Blood…” Sivirin muttered to herself while flying, hoping the Virtual Realm would hear her wishes once more.

However, the Virtual Realm seemed not to have heard her prayers. Instead, she heard the intermittent screams of the Sword Fish-Dragon again, as if it was nearby, being brutally beaten.

This wasn’t the first time—after escaping Sivirin’s attack, the previously defeated Knowledge Creatures would also emit distant, mournful screams.

Could it be that the new miracle ‘Blood Reversal’ she had learned was so powerful that it caused Knowledge Creatures to wail throughout the night, unable to heal even after escaping?

If Sivirin were to fly ten meters to the right, she would see the fleeing Sword Fish-Dragon being pummeled by a couple’s mixed doubles. It looked at the two people with an expression that said, “It’s you, kid, who drew the sacred bloodline to us,” and after letting out a cry of indignation like a tiger fallen on a plain and bullied by dogs, it exploded into a pile of loot.

After looting was complete, a Boat quietly followed Sivirin’s flight path, tailing her without a sound.

Blood Moon Kingdom, Shattered Lake Prison.

Sivirin woke up from her bed and couldn’t help but stretch, her bones making crisp sounds—because of the slow flow of blood, the bodies of the sacred bloodline are easily stiffened.

If members of the sacred bloodline want to explore the Virtual Realm for extended periods, they must lie in coffins to slow down oxidation by reducing air exposure; otherwise, they might wake up completely stiff.

Sivirin first took a warm bath, then brushed her teeth and washed her face, ensuring that all water sources remained still during this process. One of the sacred bloodline’s taboos is not to come into contact with flowing water. Although touching it won’t cause harm, the sensation of flowing water to the sacred bloodline is as unsettling and frightening as the steak you’re eating suddenly starting to twist and turn.

The sacred bloodline has a list of taboos long enough to fill a book the size of a palm, and the well-known fear of sunlight is just the most trivial of them.

Despite the numerous restrictions, there is still a never-ending stream of people eager to join the Research Institute and become part of the Bloodline. This is not only because the sacred bloodline possesses powerful Racial Talents, but also because they are the favored children of the Blood Moon Sovereign, one of the only two ruling Races in the Blood Moon Kingdom!

“Reporting last night’s Adventure to the Research Institute should earn me a good number of research Points… But that means I’ll have to talk to my teacher again. He’s definitely going to ramble on and on, asking all sorts of questions, super annoying…”

As Sivirin let her thoughts wander, she slipped into a loose Black Robe and donned her Crow Mask before heading to the restaurant exclusive for Medics.

“Good morning, respected…”

Seeing a passing Medic about to salute her, Sivirin quickly pressed down his hand and said, “Haven’t I already said that you should just treat me as a normal Medic? A simple greeting will do; it’s not like we’re outside.”

“But…”

“If you all keep this up and word gets back to the Research Institute, my teacher is definitely going to scold me. Your badge number is 137, right? I’ve got it memorized. If my teacher chides me, I’ll remember to come find you.”

Badge number 137 panicked and started to bow again, “I’m sorry, Your Excellency, I was just—”

“Hmm? Still using formal language?”

“…Good morning, 222.”
