“They… I’d say they are special, in a way that they’re connected with the world yet detached, behaving in a manner that no child would. Could it be that they are so pure and innocent that they have no desires?" Cheuk Kwun wore a complex and confused gaze. "No matter the reason, as long as they remain this way, it would be no surprise if they become the teachers’ pick.”

“But there are many potential candidates this time around.” Woo Nim reminded Cheuk Kwun, who immediately understood her.

Not only Chui Yim and Kam Chin Kee, but Lam Zaa, Lee Bak, Mung Si, and many other teenagers also exceeded their peers in many aspects – potential, cultivation state, and character. Undoubtedly, these teens would reach the four-chambered or hundred-gliphic state in the future, but it depended on luck to bring them further.

“I’m so looking forward to the enrollment in a few months…” Cheuk Kwun said excitedly, a rare sight to see.

"What is this!?" a man gasped, and everyone present turned over subconsciously. They immediately identified the man to be the son of the On Clan leader, On Pak Hin – On Kuet’s father.

The On Clan’s current clan leader, On Ying Hung was of old age, but unlike the Wong Clan leader Wong Pak, who was still highly involved in the operations of the Wong Clan, On Ying Hung passed most of his work on to On Pak Hin and spent his days resting. There were no official announcements, but On Pak Hin was obviously the next clan leader.

On Pak Hin was a talented man of the four-chambered state. He used to be the commander of the Horse Chopping Soldiers and blocked invasions from the North thrice. After returning to South Imperial City, he helped his father and the On Clan prosper.

However, there was a shortcoming to this elite: On Pak Hin was a glutton.

He had very high standards for food, and rumours had it that it was due to a special opportunity that not only helped him step into the four-chambered state but also made him crave food greatly. He needed five meals or more per day to satisfy his hunger, and this was a rare case for cultivators of his state. Since they were filled with energliph, there was no need for such a huge amount of food to sustain their lives.

Luckily, the On Clan was prosperous enough to sustain On Pak Hin’s high needs for food easily, and there was nobody who dared to make any comments about it, seeing how On Pak Hin was the representative of their clan during this National Day Celebration. This was more than enough to prove his status in the clan.

Everyone was now staring at On Pak Hin who was making a fuss.

“Dad, what’s wrong?” As a disciple of the outer sect, On Kuet was in the imperial garden too.

“This… this…” On Pak Hin did not even spare his son a look, he only had his eyes fixated on the food in utter disbelief. “This is so delightful, who made this masterpiece?”

He raised his chopsticks, staring at the square-shaped food in red and white that he took a bite from… There was even a layer of sauce smeared on top.

Due to his special status, On Pak Hin attracted Lam Chun, who was discussing something with Chui Yi. Lam Chun walked over with a smile. “What’s the matter?”

“Greetings, Your Majesty.” On Pak Hin was no longer shocked and greeted Lam Chun respectfully. The On Clan was no ordinary clan. Their clan leader, On Ying Hung, was one of the four generals of the South.

“Your Majesty, your humble servant is happily tasting the food the imperial kitchen prepared with all their heart.” On Pak Hin laughed awkwardly.

Lam Chun broke out into a slight smile. On Pak Hin was someone that he had given his crown prince badge to when he was younger, thus, he knew about On Pak Hin’s need for food.

“Oh, does it suit your taste?”

“Absolutely!” On Pak Hin replied excitedly. “This dish is of top-notch quality. Your Majesty, may I know who made these dishes? Your humble servant hopes to meet the first-class chef and even borrow him from Your Majesty to make a scrumptious meal at the On Clan!”

Lam Chun nodded and sent for an imperial chef. Qiu Jin, the head chef of the imperial kitchen, came over. “Greetings, Your Majesty.”

“Who made this dish?” Lam Chun pointed to the plate of food On Pak Hin loved. “Get him over to meet Sir On.”

Gazing at where Lam Chun pointed, Qiu Jin’s face fell. Even Lam Chun was weirded out at the change of expression. “What?”

“Your Majesty, your lowly servant deserves death.” Qiu Jin knelt down instantly.

Lam Chun was further weirded out and frowned. “What happened?”

Moments later, a small girl came running out. In a mess, she tried to figure out the situation. “What’s the matter? Is there something wrong with the food?”

The girl was no different from an ordinary kitchen helper if not for her striking blue hair that symbolised the Imperial Clan of the South.

“Your Majesty, it’s this lowly servant’s mistake. I should have never allowed Princess Ming Sum into the imperial kitchen…” Qiu Jin said in great despair.

However, On Pak Hin yelled, “Your Majesty! Please do not blame Princess Ming Sum! I’m addicted to her cooking!”

With that, On Pak Hin greeted Lam Ming Sum. “Your Highness, I am On Pak Hin from the On Clan.”

“So what’s the matter? If there’s nothing wrong, I’m heading back. It’s a busy day today.” Lam Ming Sum looked at them weirdly. The way she talked had all the elders present laughing to themselves in adoration. She was a kid, yet she spoke like an adult would!

Lam Chun did not even have the chance to speak before On Pak Hin continued anxiously. “Your Highness, your humble servant hopes to learn from you,” he said, raising the piece of food he was holding since the start. “May I know the secrets of this dish? Your humble servant tastes layers of beef, pork, chicken, and mutton in this dish, but it surprisingly goes well together.”

The food On Pak Hin held was shaped like a cube with five different colours. The first two and last two layers were red or white, most likely one of the meat types On Pak Hin mentioned. However, there was an emerald green jelly in the middle.
