Night of the Broken Gliph

The tower gate that had been shut tightly behind the important figures creaked open slowly, enough for a person to go through. A woman appeared in the crowd’s eyes—she wore a tight-fitted red robe that showcased her sculpted figure and walked out of the tower barefooted. At closer observation, she was in fact floating above the ground as if she was an immortal. 

The lady was Lung Wai Yuet!

If the Four Season Mountain’s sect leader, Yeung Ha, was named as the most renowned glipher in the North, then Lung Wai Yuet would be his southern counterpart! 

The superlatives amongst Southern cultivators were the thousand-gliphic gliphists Chan Chun Ching and Old Ngai, and the five-chambered gliphers Elder Man Shu and Lung Wai Yuet. However, Lung Wai Yuet was greatly known for how she arrived first to the rescue during the necrocultivators’ attack even though she had been living in seclusion in Metallic Blood Giant Tower for long-term. 

Ever since that incident, Lung Wai Yuet’s valiant deeds had been uncovered one after another. She had defeated several three-chambered Northern gliphers at the state of two-chambered. She then became an exception who took over the position of Metallic Blood Giant Tower’s Tower Master at the four-chambered state. 

During a Northern assault, after she became a five-chambered glipher,  she trespassed into the enemy territory out of wrath but was stopped by Four Season Mountain’s sect leader, Yeung Ha. They for seven days and nights that led to a tie. The battle ended with Lung Wai Yuet returning unharmed to the South despite being under Man Chin Hung and Yueng Ha’s joint attack. 

That was the enthralling life of Metallic Blood War Gate’s spiritual leader; her biography would be worthy of a collection had it been officially transcribed.

Lung Wai Yuet was immensely beautiful. Her youthful and feminine appearance gave off an illusion that time had stopped when in reality, all cultivators above the five-chambered state would remain in the condition when they broke through their fifth chamber. 

Her firm and fair skin gave off a womanly charm that was more captivating than the young beauties, Mung Si and Kong Yau, who lacked maturity in them. 

What seemed out of place was her ice-cold expression contrary to her ladylike visuals. Her arched eyebrows painted a handsome yet distant touch to the lady, but remembering her great capability, it fitted her well. 

“Metallic Blood Giant Tower is the source of Metallic Blood War Gate,” Lung Wai Yuet started, not planning to beat around the bush. The crowd had no complaints about it; they couldn’t care less than to drown in her melodic voice. “The Metallic Blood Giant Tower takes in energy from the heaven and earth and processes it into blood intent. We humans then can absorb blood intent and convert it into physical strength.

“Blood intent only emits every decade, and lady luck is with us to have the interschool exchange take place during this faithful year. Thus, every disciple of the participating institutions will have the chance to absorb blood intent today.” 

“However, there are a few important points to remember.” Lung Wai Yuet raised her smooth fingers. “One, blood intent is only temporarily absorbed into the body. If severely injured, you will lose the blood intent. In other words, snatching of blood intent from another is possible.” 

Hearing so, the participants exchange glances filled with cautiousness and greed. 

“Two, there are nine floors to the tower in total, and a certain amount of blood intent is required before you can proceed to the next floor. You can choose to find a spot and absorb blood intent quietly, or, rob it from others. The decision is up to you. The first participant to reach the ninth floor will clench victory. 

“Three, blood intent is spiritual and will form blood spectres with murderous characteristics. Blood spectres are not only your opponents, but also an opportunity. Defeating one will grant you an enormous amount of blood intent. 

“Four, when your lives are threatened, yell “I forfeit”. You will be transported out of the tower immediately, but you will lose all of your blood intent. You will similarly be transported out of the tower when you suffer from deadly injuries. But keep in mind that such injuries might affect Cloud Palace enrollment which takes place in half a year, or even hinder your future development. 

“These are the four important points that you lot must take note of. Life and death, fortune and honours are by fate. How a moment’s chance will affect your future is all in the hands of yourselves. 

“Now, I shall name the prizes for winners. The second runner-up will receive a grade-three gliph weapon. The first runner-up will receive Metallic Blood War Gate’s Tigard Elixir, a grade four elixir.

The first who steps foot onto the ninth floor, in other words, the victor, shall receive the egg of an ancient ferocious beast, the giant demonic spider! Not only so, but the disciples of the victor’s institution will also be allowed entry to the Metallic Blood War Gate’s Blood Book Pavillion and can choose one gliphility of any style of their liking!” 

“Wow!” The crowd gasped at the prizes. This was the most valuable prize that had been given out in a hundred years! 

Lung Wai Yuet floated up into the air, revealing her snowy white ankle slightly. With the sky-reaching tower behind her, she reached out her smooth hand and formed a fist. A ball of blood appeared out of nowhere and raised all disciples in the arena up.

Since most participants were from famous organisations, clans or institutions, fear did not take over them when they rose up to the sky. 

“Open.” 

The tower opened up under Lung Wai Yuet’s command, and blood intent surged out. The crowd could not admire this scene for long as Lung Wai Yuet immediately threw the ball of blood containing all disciples into the tower as if she was balling. The several hundred participants, along with their shrieks and screams, were stuffed into the tower all at once! 

When all disciples were “forced” into the tower, the door shut tight with a loud bang. Blood intent no longer seeped out from the tower. Lung Wai Yuet nodded at Lam Chun and disappeared with a blood-coloured flash. With her status, this was sufficient as an act of respect for the emperor. 

Grandma Chin Shu, Old Star Reacher and the other important figures were all on cloud nine. “Blood Tide! It’s the Blood Tide! Metallic Blood War Gate is truly generous to share the Blood Tide for today’s competition!” 

Leave everything aside, absorbing blood intent in the tower alone was already a great opportunity! 

“Master once mentioned that the selfless act of sharing and passing down knowledge is what allowed the South to grow and protect its territory against the North. We will be on the losing end if we continue to fight amongst ourselves while the Northern forces grow stronger day by day,” Sze Fung replied solemnly. 

The crowd showed faces of admiration upon hearing Sze Fung.

Indeed the Blood Dragon Fairy! Her breadth of mind is far beyond anyone’s reach! 

However, some also guessed that her decision might be related to necrogliphism’s reappearance after a thousand years. No matter what, Lung Wai Yuet had indeed been generous to bring such hefty prizes to the table. She wasn’t only thinking about her institution but for the entire South. The South needed to nurture the new talents to grow as quickly as they could in order to go up against the necrocultivators!
