“A shield?”

Shields were a rare type of gliph weapons; there wasn’t even a clan which specialised in shields, nor were there many Northern blacksmiths who could forge them due to the lack of users. In this world where cultivators were one in a million, gliphers felt they would be a disgrace if they hid behind a small shield! That’s what made shield an unpopular gliph weapon.

Yet, Chui Yim forged one for this competition!

Yau Suet Chung and Chai Fook Sau stared at the beautiful product closely but to no avail. The judges were soon irritated and bugged them. “Hurry up! Are you the judges, or are we the judges?”

“Okay…” The boys handed over the shield unwillingly. They might not understand it, but they could feel that this weapon wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

Among the seniors, Fung Seung was the first to get his hands on the weapon. He couldn’t help but gasp at its perfect shape. The shield was curved and light as a feather. The shield was forged with many minerals, but it looked to be a whole product. If Fung Seung didn’t witness Chui Yim refine the various ingredients personally, he would’ve thought this was made from just one mineral. As for its actual power…Fung Seung couldn’t discern anything; he wasn’t a fire-forger, after all.

The Old Star Reacher was the next to judge Chui Yim’s weapon. Amongst them all, he cared about Chui Yim the least. The Stars Unite Education Center only accepted  gliphist, so he didn’t care about blacksmiths. Furthermore, Chui Yim was somebody the betrayer Fa Siu Siu had tried to recruit. This intensified his hatred towards Chui Yim.

“Hah. So this mediocre product is the mentioned superb weapon?”

“It’s funny how a gliphist was asked to grade a gliph weapon…” Chui Yim didn’t fear the Old Star Reacher in the slightest.

The Old Star Reacher roared in anger upon realising what Chui Yim meant. “What is this bastard saying!” Powerful energliph waves were immediately felt as gliph strings danced across the arena. Suddenly, a man spoke out calmly.

“Please watch yourself. Chui Yim is a disciple of my outer sect.”

The man spoke softly, yet his voice weirdly rang in everyone’s ears. The important figures looked at the Cloud Palace’s outer sect seats and saw a dirty, poorly dressed middle-aged man. He looked like a mess, but his eyes were like the night skies, deep and unforgettable.

It was definitely a member of the Cloud Palace. All the important figures turned solemn, and the Old Star Reacher could only restrain his energliph angrily. But if looks could kill, Chui Yim would have died a thousand times by now.

The judges then passed the shield around, but none could offer many comments as it seemed like an ordinary piece of metal to them.

“It’s no surprise that none of you can understand this; it’s just a grade-one gliph weapon, after all.” The crowd was shocked once Chui Yim spoke. This boy was said to be able to flip the heavens and even forge grade-three gliph weapons! Yet, he forged a mere grade-one gliph weapon?!

“Hah!” As if noticing a way to bring Chui Yim down, Old Star Reacher quickly grabbed hold of the chance. “How dare you present a grade one gliph weapon? Zero marks for you! Hahaha!”

Even Chai Fook Sau and Yau Suet Chung had weird expressions. They felt that this shield wasn’t as simple as it looked. “Return it to me.” Nevertheless, Chui Yim only asked for his shield back and ignored the Old Star Reacher. He didn’t even spare the other a glance!

Fung Seung did as asked, even though he didn’t know what Chui Yim had up his sleeves.

“Come here.” Chui Yim waved towards Yau Suet Chung.

“What now?” Yau Suet Chung sighed helplessly. I’m the disciple of the water-casting grandmaster; why is he ordering me about?

“Slash at me with your sabre.”

“Are you mad?!” Yau Suet Chung jumped up. “That’s a grade two gliph weapon! Your shield is only grade one!”

“Hahaha, what a great idea!” Old Star Reacher laughed evilly. He was dying for Chui Yim to die under Yau Suet Chung’s strike to quench the hatred within him!

“Do as I say; why talk so much?” Chui Yim scolded impatiently. As they expected to see Chui Yim sliced in half, the crowd broke into a cold sweat.

“What this boy is up to…” Woo Nim frowned, but Kam Chin Kee remained calm beside her with a smile.

“Miss Woo, please be at ease. Chui Yim’s a sneaky boy who won’t do anything he lacks confidence in. Furthermore, I’ve never met anybody who can outperform him in this field.”

“Okay, be careful.” Yau Suet Chung gritted his teeth and did as he was told. He held onto his Three Rings Eroded Moon tightly. Chui Yim might’ve made this weapon sound like it wasn’t worth a penny, but it was still one of the better works he had ever seen. A sharp noise rang out the next moment as if space itself was slashed into half!

As though Chui Yim didn’t see how powerful the incoming strike was, he grabbed his shield and blocked it.

Plat. A clear shattering sound was heard.

Yau Suet Chung watched the snowflakes in the air. Under the bright sun, the blue fragments were hard for him to look at it directly.

His sabre had shattered simply like it was currently snowing! Chui Yim wasn’t surprised by this, however.

“This is why a sabre should be heavy.”

“Impossible!” Even Fung Seung couldn’t understand what was going on. He knew the shield wasn’t ordinary, but being able to damage a grade-two weapon was unthinkable. Being able to withstand the attack was different from destroying the weapon!

Such a situation was only possible when the damaged weapon was a grade lower than the other.  But besides the elegant appearance of the shield, he could not feel the aura unique to grade three weapons from it!

“I carved the rebound gliph on this shield, so some of the energy it absorbed from the attack will be rebounded.” Chui Yim spoke honestly. The rebound gliph wasn’t uncommon, but a common gliph that many looked down on because this gliph couldn’t return attacks more powerful than its user. It would be faster for the gliphist to launch an attack instead.

Yet nobody would have thought for it to appear on a shield!

The more Fung Seung thought about it, the more exquisite it was. “If the shield was invincible and rebounded some of the energy every time it was struck…” A grim light flashed across his eyes. It was a simple idea, yet nobody had ever thought about it!

Turning something into another is simple, but creating something out of nothing is tedious!
