The Evergreen Palace was the work of grandmaster architect Wai Yi who erected countless palaces and buildings to form a massive formation. It was active twenty-four-seven and controlled by Old Ngai, which made it impossible for anyone to sneak in.

However, the mysterious necrocultivator managed to infiltrate the palace unnoticed.

This proved that there was a spy among them who was familiar with the inner workings of the Evergreen Palace. Otherwise, it was impossible for the mysterious necrocultivator to sneak in successfully without Old Ngai realising. The thought of  someone who had the ability to assassinate their emperor gave them all goosebumps, and they all looked around in fear that the black flame might be among them.

Lam Chun wore a cold expression. He was far from handsome, but he was full of prestige. “General Wong is right.” He frowned as he agreed with what Wong Pak said before turning to a middle-aged official standing in the crowd.

“Chancellor Chui, you should know what to do.”

Chui Yi smiled thinly. He has always played the good guy while Chor Huet Zhin played the bad guy. Is General Wong going to take over General Chor’s position now?

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Where are the Chors?” Lam Chun asked slowly after scanning the members present.

“Your Majesty, the Chor Clan bore the brunt of this assault. The necrocultivators split into two teams; one infiltrated the palace while the other attacked the Chor Clan. They reported that the late General Chor Huet Zhin’s tomb was raided, and his corpse was stolen. Deputy Clan Leader Chor Chong Hoi is still unconscious due to the injuries inflicted by the powerful necrocultivator,” the middle-aged man standing next to Lam Chun spoke. It was none other than Kei Mo, Lam Chun’s shadow.

Rage surged within Lam Chun as he slammed his armrest. His energliph erupted; it would’ve destroyed his throne if it wasn’t a treasure.

“How dare they defile the deceased! How dare they!” Lam Chun swept his gaze across his subordinates. “General Wong, General Lee, General On! Heed my orders: martial law is now in place!” He roared.

“I hereby announce that General Wong will be the new Minister of Defence, with jurisdiction over the entire military! General Wong, no matter what it takes, I demand an explanation of what happened!”

“Yes, Your Majesty!” Wong Pak kneeled.

“The Chor Clan has suffered the greatest losses this time. Summon Clan Leader Chor Chun Ping back to the city right now. He is now granted authority over all South Imperial City’s guards for a city-wide search! I want detailed reports on everything in South Imperial City. Be it the number of dogs or chickens, I want a clear number! Chancellor Chui, assist the Chor Clan in this!

“Lastly, summon Divine Doctor Sir Mo-Yung to treat General Wong and Deputy Clan Leader Chor right now! No delays or errors are allowed!

“As the first incident in centuries since the inception of the Lam dynasty, this is a serious insult. I shall grant the world a satisfactory answer while returning safety and peace to this city!

“End of meeting!”

In the World Observatory Hall, Chui Yi, Lam Chun and Kei Mo were the only ones left in the hall.

The current chancellor, Chui Yi, was the first to gain Lam Chun’s crown prince badge back in the days. They were childhood friends who now ruled the world together and provided stability and peace to the South—but only until yesterday.

Lam Chun rubbed his temple. He hadn’t slept since last night. Well, nobody would be able to sleep in his place. “Have you found out why they snuck into the palace?” He turned towards Kei Mo.

“Yes, Your Majesty,” Kei Mo replied respectfully. “I got the entire Shadowforge Hall to investigate the whole Evergreen Palace and discovered that he appeared at the Treasure House.”

Chui Yi shook his head after hearing Kei Mo.“I might not be talented in cultivation, but I’ve met enough cultivators to know their desire for wealth decreases after reaching a certain rank. Even if they want any precious items, they can easily acquire them.”

Lam Chun agreed with Chui Yi. “I’m confident in our assets accumulated over the past centuries, but I doubt any of them would catch such a cultivator’s eyes.”

“Your Majesty, we’ve discovered what he took,” Kei Mo added immediately. “The only item missing was the leftover arm from the necrocultivator who died in Southern Ping.”

Lam Chun was stunned upon hearing this. Indeed, the arm was something he requested from Southern Ping.

“That incident even made Southern Ping use their formation elixir. Because necrocultivators reverse yin and yang, their bodies are already filled with the energy of death which will devour them and turn them into black water that disperses when they die. Legends have it that necrocultivators are barred from reincarnation and even hell. Scattering into oblivion is their destiny.

“Because of Doctor Odd, Ping Chi, from Southern Ping, they managed to preserve an arm.

Lam Chun nodded after hearing this. He could remember the situation clearly. “And we left it in the Treasure House because it wasn’t of any use, right?”

“Yes, Your Majesty.” Kei Mo nodded.

“Such a huge operation just for an arm… How weird!” Chui Yi frowned.

He was right. Chui Yi knew that Lam Chun was only acting furious in the morning meeting as the assault was noticeable but didn’t cause much damage. If the mysterious black flame could enter the Evergreen Palace without anyone noticing, he could’ve done much more as a five-chambered cultivator; he could’ve destroyed a third of the palace even with Old Ngai’s Thousand Mountain and Stream formation. If he wanted to, he even had a sixty per cent chance of assassinating the emperor!

However, instead of choosing to do any of those things, he merely stole an arm. He didn’t cause much damage nor killed any innocents. It was as if this trip was meant to warn them that South Imperial City wasn’t as invincible as they thought.

The Chor Clan was the only real victim.

“What exactly is his goal…”

Hearing Chui Yi’s mumble, Lam Chun shook his head. “No matter what he came for, he’s exposed himself. He can’t do the same thing  next time.”

The scariest elites were the unknown ones. As long as they hid in the dark, they could suddenly erupt and bring upon catastrophes. Now that he showed himself, he most certainly had plans to deal with the consequences.
