Lung Wai Yuet was furious. “Do you know how long you guys took? We have an enemy at our doors; this isn’t the time for your childish internal strife!”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” The middle-aged man, Chan Chung Ching, shook his head slightly. “I did my best to rush over. It’s your fault he escaped from your hands.”

“Chan Chung Ching, are you saying that I’m incapable?” Old Ngai snapped with faint traces of anger on his face, Chan Chung Ching shook his head silently in response, but his expression said otherwise.

“Everyone, this isn’t time to fight amongst ourselves. We must unravel how and why the necrocutivators sneaked in.” Elder Man Shu coughed.

Lung Wai Yuet sneered and shot them a violent glare. For such a stunning beauty to have such an aggressive character made her stand out from the others.

“Enough of your nonsense. Even if I let things go this time, His Majesty will certainly demand an explanation. You two better be ready to answer him. We will investigate this matter further during the interschool exchange.” Lung Wai Yuet bowed towards Old Ngai and returned to the Metallic Blood War Gate as a streak of blood-red light.

“Such a martial arts fanatic.” Chan Chung Ching lamented as he watched her leave.

“The Blood Dragon Fairy is right. The other party has already infiltrated the Evergreen Palace, yet the both of you still didn’t feel any sense of urgency. I hope you won’t regret your actions when His Majesty questions you about it,” Old Ngai snapped coldly and vanished. As the formation guardian, he was given the privilege to teleport freely within South Imperial City; only a few people had this privilege.

Priest Man Shu and Chan Chung Ching exchanged regretful glances. They believed that there was no escaping for the mysterious necrocultivator upon entering the city, and they were more than glad if the trespasser injured their competitor, Lung Wai Yuet, during his final struggle.

They never expected the other party to escape using such a powerful teleportation method; even Old Ngai and Lung Wai Yuet failed to stop it. What made it even worse was that the other party was entirely unscathed!

The pressure on the latecomers was unimaginable, even with them being some of the most powerful cultivators in the world. As long as they were in South Imperial City, they would be restricted by Old Ngai’s invincibility. This thought made the two of them shake their heads silently and left after sharing another glance.

The loud commotion the previous night attracted the attention of all citizens in South Imperial City. The ambiguous statement from the Lam dynasty further fuelled their displeasure to the point where they nearly rioted.

South Imperial City’s prosperity relied on its safety. The war between North and South was still ongoing, and Northern cultivators occasionally snuck into the South to fight, like the village massacre about ten years ago.

Safety was a major concern for most, and those who could reside in the South Imperial City had strong backgrounds. They might not be powerful on their own. Still, when more than half the businesses, organisations and clans of South Imperial City worked together, they were a force that even the Lam dynasty couldn’t disregard

Eventually, the reigning Emperor Lam Chun announced to the world that last night, some mysterious Northern cultivators snuck into the South Imperial City to stir up a disturbance and were killed. Lam Chun even hung several corpses on the Northern water curtain gates to warn all other enemies.

However, the powerful clans and institutions knew the actual situation. Thus, why would they be satisfied with the corpses that Lam Chun created out of the blue?

In the Halls of Affairs, all officials had gathered and were standing on both sides of the hall respectfully. The hall was so silent that they could hear a pin drop as all the officials held their breath, staring anxiously at the slim man sitting on the throne.

“Great. Great!” He slammed his armrest with fury all over his face. “South Imperial City has prospered for centuries, and nobody has ever trespassed into the city successfully! This is the first time, and all of you knew nothing! I guess I should expect someone assassinating me in my sleep!”

“Your Majesty…” Countless officials trembled at his words.

“Shut your mouths!” Lam Chun’s expression darkened again as a wave of fury rose in him.

The officials immediately kowtowed. “Please forgive us, Your Majesty!”

Lam Chun only sneered in reply, though his simmering anger had yet to subside.

“Cough… Your Majesty.” A weak cough rang across the hall, and Lam Chun looked over with a gentler look upon hearing him.

“General Wong should rest today fo your injuries.”

General Wong was none other than Wong Pak, who was injured against the black flame. He might be in heaven now if not for the powerful elixirs and the Evergreen Palace’s imperial physician, grandmaster Kuen Hip.

“General Wong stepped up against the trespasser fearlessly and with determination despite being weaker. All other Southerners should learn from him.” Lam Chun eyed the other officials coldly, who also replied in unison.

Indeed, they respected the four-chambered general who stepped forward against a five-chambered enemy. His courage and determination were rarely seen among cultivators these days. Moreover, Wong Pak was already over a hundred years old. He was not much younger than the late Chor Huet Zhin, which was why he should be more careful with his health, but he acted otherwise as the living personification of the Wong Clan’s mad tiger.

All of them sincerely respected Wong Pak’s bravery, and the South were left stunned by his actions. After Chor Huet Zhin passed away, the Wong Clan had been displaying their might that rivalled  the Chor Clan, even seemingly surpassing them.

“Your Majesty, please calm down…” Wong Pak coughed. He was currently as white as a sheet of paper, but it didn’t stop him from keeping his cool. “The accident has left the city in disarray, and to regain the citizens’ trust, Your Majesty has to keep his calm too!”

Lam Chun nodded in agreement. “What is General Wong’s suggestion”

“I believe this accident isn’t coincidental. There should be… a spy here in South Imperial City!” Wong Pak stated.

The entire hall fell silent after Wong Pak spoke. In fact, it wasn’t hard to reach his conclusion.  South Imperial City might be the largest city in the world, the capital of the South, but it was still impossible to stop all foreigners from entering. Despite being in constant conflict, the North and the South still needed each other. Every year, countless businessmen travelled between the North and South to profit from trade, as there were many things both the North and South lacked and needed from each other.

The Cloud Palace Outer Sect was a prime example. After countless negotiations under the tables, it was agreed that Northerners could earn a quota as well at the cost of countless precious ingredients and a huge sum.

It wasn’t difficult to enter South Imperial City, but the Evergreen Palace was different.
