Chapter 321

  1. Everyone has a plan… (4)

I almost got into big trouble.

I can’t believe this kingdom that I’ve never even heard the name of is blocking the evil god forces so well.

I heard there were two Swordmasters in this kingdom, but without archmage or anyone with enough skills to support the Swordmasters, they’ve performed beyond expectations.

At this rate, the imperial army might attack before the Demon King!

Fortunately, Dharman had ordered all the escape routes that the Black Anvil used before he left to be destroyed, so there’s no chance of a surprise attack, but if it was the Princess’ troops, even these fortress walls would’ve been useless.

The mages just need to climb to the highest altitude then drop troops from there.

It’d be suicidal for ordinary people, but the Princess was the one who made a Knight Order with Swordmasters.

The Princess’ forces, including my former Howling disciples and even absorbed Yugrasia, were literally beings that transcended common sense.

To be honest, they were guys who could survive being thrown off after the imperial mages sacrificed people one by one with bombardment magic.

“You should have raised them moderately.”

“Don’t talk irresponsibly. Half of it is your responsibility?”

They were a race that was raised by getting hit by the metal bat, and evolved to avoid getting hit by it.

If someone had to take responsibility, half of it would be the metal bat’s share.

“But you lived because the neighboring country was destroyed, right?”

“That’s true.”

I was worried about what would happen if the neighboring Baresseryl Kingdom blocked the evil god army, but thanks to the Demon King personally smashing them himself, I was able to live.

“It’s the evil god army!”

“Fire!”

Boom!

Along with a tremendous explosive sound, hundreds of mana cannons on top of the fortress wall spewed out their magic power.

Then, hundreds of ballistae fired arrows, darkening the sky, and although they couldn’t be seen, it seemed like the trebuchets kept firing as well.

“As expected, the main damage dealer is the best.”

This is why the so-called great leader comrade was trying so hard to make nuclear missiles.

Nuclear missiles must be the strongest main damage dealers of the modern era.

It was very regrettable that they couldn’t be made here.

“Lord Hectare.”

“Ah, You must be Count Maberuff.”

“I’m honored you remember me.”

“How could I forget the Swordmaster representing the Baresseryl Kingdom?”

“You flatter me. I’m someone who couldn’t even protect his own country.”

The man who smiled bitterly was one of the two Swordmasters the Baresseryl Kingdom boasted of, and the one who borrowed dwarf-made weapons from me.

“The weapons you lent me were all destroyed, and I shamelessly turned the Black Anvil village into a battlefield. I’m very sorry.”

He bowed his waist without hesitation, showing his character.

Despite his position as a high nobleman valued as a Count and the great power of a Swordmaster, he bowed his waist without hesitation.

Normally, nobles would only bow their heads, and he could have even tried to forcibly take over this village, but

Bowing his waist like this means one of two things.

Either that’s his original character…

“No, we must all help and live together, right?”

“Thank you. While we alone could not hold back the wicked Demon King and evil god army…”

Count Maberuff’s gaze turned toward the fortress wall.

“As expected of dwarves.”

Or he’s afraid.

Indeed, all kinds of emotions were reflected in Count Maberuff’s eyes.

Admiration, awe, respect, regret, fear…

He openly showed all sorts of emotions without hiding anything.

“If I could’ve only received the weapons a little sooner, I might’ve been able to defend the capital… I regret it.”

It was a voice full of regret.

He lost his country’s capital with hundreds of years of history and couldn’t help but abandon countless citizens.

That’s what he regrets.

“I’m sorry about that. The weapons were made, but due to the dwarves’ nature, they couldn’t be transported to the kingdom.”

And I already had the excuse prepared for him.

“I know. The races that can stand against evil are only humans and elves. Since the Demon King approached, even the dwarves must have had no choice but to move.”

It wasn’t a lie.

Even if the Black Anvil didn’t meet me, they would have abandoned this village and escaped.

No! If anything, they wouldn’t even have made these weapons and just escaped!

Without me, the Baresseryl Kingdom would have collapsed meaninglessly, and there would have been more casualties.

So!

“You are heroes of our kingdom. Without Lord Hectare and the Black Anvil clan, our kingdom would have collapsed in an instant and more citizens would have been killed.”

A Demon King is a natural disaster.

No matter how bad the relationship is between countries, people displaced by the Demon King are accepted by all kingdoms on the continent.

There were issues with refugees in my previous life, but this place had a shortage of labor so it was rather beneficial for the kingdom, with no issues whatsoever.

“Thank you for saying that.”

“No. Please be patient until the heroes and each Order arrives.”

I slightly bowed my head back at him bowing his.

“The situation looks good.”

“It’s great.”

The back of the leaving Count Maberuff gave a lot of information.

“Since a Swordmaster is taking time off the front lines.”

The Swordmasters are existences that can damage the evil god army as well.

They can deal with ogres and trolls driven mad by evil that even knight-level fighters are struggling against. With the support of mages and magic items, they can even win against drakes and aerial battles.

That was what a Swordmaster was.

In a fight against the evil god army with members that even ordinary weapons have a hard time wounding, they are the most crucial existence.

The fact that such a person was encouraging the troops in the rear instead of being on the front lines meant that the situation on the front most line was that good, and

“It means we can buy time.”

A hero unconditionally comes.

Why do only the human race give birth to heroes!

Because God loves humans?

No.

Because humans believe in God the most?

That’s not it either.

Other races are loved by a specific God from the moment they are born, but humans are born with the potential to be loved by all Gods.

Also, other races believe in the God their race follows, but humans believe in the God they choose.

Yet god chose humans as heroes.

That’s because the hero system itself isn’t a system to save the world, but a system specifically made to defeat Demon Kings and evil god.

They have to defeat Demon Kings and evil god, but if they choose heroes of another race who may become corrupted by evil and turn into enemies, it’d be big trouble!

Heroes destined to fight the Demon King from the system itself must come unconditionally unless they make Gods and Orders into enemies.

And the imperial army will come as well.

I didn’t fully teach Mirea the recipe, and it seems like the princess has no intention of giving up on me.

If I do well, Sia might come too.

If I do even better, even the elves might come.

If I do way better, something will come!

“No matter what, something will come, right?”

“How would I know?”

“You make a convincing point since you’re the master.”

Here, I was hoping she would be a bit more skeptical, but I couldn’t help but sigh at the sight of the metal bat readily nodding her head.

“Does it seem that way to you too?”

“You’re saying this even though you know, master. Normally when you say something like this, you would deny reality and say ‘That can’t be true!’ or ‘It’s not my fault!'”

“…I wasn’t denying reality.”

It was simply the truth.

“The world calls that denial of reality.”

“It’s not my fault! The world is at fault!”

“Yes, that’s your usual reaction, master!”

“Sigh….”

Hearing the metal bat’s words only made me feel more drained.

…Can I really do this?

“That’s why you’re trying so hard, right? Effort is normally rewarded.”

“Is that so?”

Effort is rewarded.

It was something my ancestors said a lot too.

That’s why I studied hard and even took the civil service exam… But my life genre changed from modern to modern fantasy and got wrecked.

I tried to contribute by learning swordsmanship diligently, but… My ability was a shitty skill so I died.

I struggled desperately in the organization too just to survive, but was almost branded as a traitor.

I just did my assigned role well in the imperial family, yet a crazy princess is chasing me.

After spending all my retirement fund to quietly live out my life running an academy, the princess came and caused havoc.

Now I gave up everything to enjoy a comfortable rural life with my daughter, yet non-humans, the demons, came to harass me!

Is that all!

I single-handedly took over the demon continent after becoming the first human to cross over, yet!

My former disciple who is now called the Demon King, the Apostle of evil god, is trying to kill me!

“What the, why am I not rewarded for my efforts?”

I can confidently say, how many in this world have put in as much effort as me?

None! Probably none!

My wishes weren’t even big, just a comfortable rural life with my daughter!

Was that so hard to grant?

Did you really have to take everything, world!

“Master, the world didn’t do anything. If anything was done, it was by you.”

“No way…! No way!”

Are these hot liquids flowing from my eyes, tears?

I don’t even remember how long it’s been since I last sincerely shed tears.

“I’ll smash this kind of world.”

“Since master is saying it, it doesn’t sound like you’re joking… Scary….”

I’m someone who lives life seriously.

Joking? There’s no joking in my dictionary!

I quickly moved to my house.

There’s no need for me to worry about the battle with the army of evil god since it’s going smoothly.

A room that was once used by the elders of the Black Anvil clan.

Now a space belonging only to me, I take out a map there and check the surrounding terrain.

“Sh*t!”

A curse spurts out.

The best case scenario was decent.

Aside from the gate at the front entrance, the Black Anvil clan’s castle walls have no other entrances or exits.

With those walls blocking the Demon King’s path, if the heroes, imperial army, and other troops surround the area, they can perfectly wipe out the army of evil god.

If the world were to fight against the Demon King and his army to defeat the Apostle of evil god, this scene would unfold.

This was the typical fantasy novel formation.

“Master, I could be wrong but I feel like this is what will happen.”

I stared coldly at the metal bat who was waving around a copied map.

My gaze was not towards the metal bat. It was towards that map.

“I think… The same.”

A perfect encirclement.

That’s what the map showed.

Except… The Demon King was attacking the Black Anvil clan’s main gate, the imperial army had surrounded the back of the walls to start, and then other troops completely encircled the walls in the map.

It wasn’t the worst case scenario. It was just a weird outcome.

The heroes and humans clearly have a mission to defeat the Demon King and his army of evil god, yet why would they encircle the castle currently fighting the Demon King?

It’s the stupidest thing ever.

But my instincts were screaming that this had the highest chance of happening!

“Damnit! When there’s no normal people around, any normal strategy is doomed.”

The enemy has no normal people.

Recognizing that and failing to do so makes a huge difference.

The princess ,who is not even a second year middle school student but is old enough, is growling that she will destroy the world, so she create an order of knights as a Swordsmaster to catch a middle age person who is not even half a century old.

There is also Sia, who was occupying the world behind her with the same purpose as the princess. Plus there was the crazy elf who ruthlessly makes use of the World Tree’s branches, the deity of the spirit world, to take over the other world just like the princess.

Tsk tsk! The world sure runs interestingly.

“And master is at the center of it.”

“So are you.”

I no longer had the strength to resent the metal bat anymore.

I was even more pressed for time.

“Then we’ll have to make plans assuming this happens.”

I snatch away the map the metal bat was holding and stuff it into my clothes.

Then I burn away all the other maps except for the original.

If the castle gets surrounded, I’ll have no choice but to break through the easiest spot and make a frontal breakthrough.

“What will you do?”

The metal bat tilts her head and asks.

“The original plan was to watch the hero and Demon King fight while eating popcorn but…”

It’s regretful to not be able to use the corn I’ve been saving up for popcorn, but better than not being able to use my life.

“If it goes like this…”

“If…?”

Then there’s only one method.

“Take on the Demon King head on!”
