Chapter 190: Preparation (3)
"Pack up only the things we needed. Leave the junk aside if they're not necessary." Victor and Marvin were busy running up and down to handle the moving preparation. It didn't take them too long to prepare as no one has too much luggage, to begin with.
There's nothing much for them to feel sorry about leaving them behind. After all, this base won't be abandoned too long because Zhang Qin Feng's men will eventually come back to turn this into an outpost in the future.
Right now, they're just slightly out of manpower to handle two bases at once. When the preparation work is done, the moving progress will run much better than right now, without a doubt.
"How's the preparation? Are we ready to move?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.
Although they're not in a rush right now, it was much better to move as soon as possible before anything changed, considering the situation they're in right now. In this post-apocalypse, everything might change in a blink of an eye.
It might seem peaceful right now, but they won't know what kind of danger is looking at them from further away, underground, and so on.
What's more than that, their enemies weren't just the infected. The survivors were one of the threats they should be cautious against too.
The six military vehicles were finally fully loaded and ready to move. Except for some disposable machinery stored at the back of a few trucks, most of them are safely kept inside Zhang Qin Feng's Dimensional Storage. The other remaining space in the car was used to carry the survivors.
Separating into two different teams, the first team moved significantly faster than the second as its cargo is the survivors and their belonging. Under Zhang Qin Feng's order, the first three vehicles shall return to the new Wind Base with haste before any unexpected situation arise.
As for the second team, it was filled with Wind Base members with knowledge in vehicle maintenance and also driving skills.
There's only one responsibility to the people in this team, that's to repair and bring back as many vehicles as they could. The priority in their list of repairs shall be heavy-duty trucks, followed by high-performance cars.
The household sedan would be their last option, but it shall be used without being picky on their choices if the parts could fit.
Alex would be the one to lead the first team, while the second team will have Zhang Qin Feng following them. While it may seem burdensome for team two to have Zhang Qin Feng with them, his purpose for staying with them was not to monitor them but more or less protecting them.
Because the place they're going to start the salvage-maintenance process is none other than the Shangwen Tunnel, where the worm-like creature made their nest.
It won't be ridiculous for Zhang Qin Feng to assume that the entire Shangwen Tunnel was infested by them. The whole tunnel area would be their nest if the concrete foundation was not too hard for them to drill through.
Just like before, there was no sign of any movement from the worm-like creature nor the zombies. Although his personal Luna II device provided by Stein was better than the others, there are still many improvement areas.
"Boss, we found one truck that can still be repaired," said Victor. He was the leader of this team and not Zhang Qin Feng.
"Great. We'll take care of the surrounding. Start the repairing process and make haste." Zhang Qin Feng said. He knew that his presence here would make them keep reporting to him on every move they're making.
But just for today, he believes that this is a must. Only listening to each other's responses will let them have overall control of the situation inside this tunnel.
He stayed idle here with the repairing workers while Victor led the remaining members to search for their following targets.
"We've found two other vehicles not too far from here. Shall I bring some members over there to start repairing it?" Victor asked after when he returned to Zhang Qin Feng's side an hour later.
"Boss, leader Victor, the repair is done. We're ready to go at any time." the member said.
"Good job. Now let us move to another section. The two of you, drive this vehicle and bring it back to the new Wind Base." Zhang Qin Feng picked one of the men from his previous Wind Base and one from the new base.
Such a process continued until the fourth truck drove and left the tunnel.
A hissing sound soon came from somewhere nearby as everyone was alarmed by that unfamiliar sound. As someone who's been in their nest for a few hours before this, the sound it made was not one that Zhang Qin Feng can easily forget.
"Get into the car and drive towards the exit now." Zhang Qin Feng whispered to the driver sitting beside him. His caution and careful tone made the driver gently pressed the ignition button of the vehicle.
They're considered lucky because the vehicles here in the post-apocalypse were powered by electricity instead of fuel. Hence, the vibration and noise it gave out were much lesser than the traditional fuel-powered vehicle from Zhang Qin Feng's modern world.
Slowly heading towards the tunnel's exit, Zhang Qin Feng made sure he paid attention to their surroundings to avoid alarming the creatures.
"Boss, I think we had a problem…" Zhang Qin Feng's driver said as he pointed at the tunnel's exit. As the leading car driving on the frontmost, it was common for him to notice something that others couldn't.
"Fuck." Zhang Qin Feng cursed. It seems that out of the four vehicles, only three managed to get out safely. The fourth vehicle was still blinking with lights as the car was swarmed by the worm-like creatures.
From the look of it, the two members of his team should have met their end. The car they're driving should only have some damage on the external and not internal. But even if it is still movable, Zhang Qin Feng won't have a design on it any longer.
"What do we do now, boss?" the driver asked. With his truck stopping at the front, everyone else was waiting at the back for his next decision.
