Chapter 224 Sea Creatures
Although these mutants were not bona fide dragons, Viktor understood why Viez referred to them as dragons. Their heads were similar to snakes and on their heads were three pairs of horns. Added to the sharply glistening scales on their bodies and the aggressive aura surrounding them, the image of these three-meter alligator-like mutants indeed resembled an ancient mythological creature.
As Viktor briefly observed these mutants, a piece of information entered his mind.
[Mutated Salamander - Level 65]
[Battle Power: 75]
<More than 200 of them are in a one-mile radius, and they're all coming this way.>
The sudden information provided by the Djinn made Viktor drop his jaw. 200 monsters of this caliber might not be able to harm him much, but he wasn't the only person in the yacht. Moreover, being in the middle of the sea, they had nowhere to escape from these creatures.
<What are you thinking so hard about? They're just newts. Compared to the monsters in the abyss, these things are nothing.>
Despite hearing the whispers reverberating in his mind, Viktor didn't give a word of response.
His attention fell on the half a dozen members of the Heaven's Will guild. At this moment, they were battling the slithering creatures that were continuously jumping out of the deep waters.
With just a flick of its thick tail, one strong warrior was flung down with a loud bang. However, that wasn't all. What was even more surprising was that a surrounded Salamander suddenly spat out some kind of slimy fluid, overwhelming the three warriors trying to corner it.
<I suggest you avoid them. Good luck.>
Even though he was watching the situation from a distance, Viktor could still tell that there was something dangerous with that slimy thing. He promptly decided to wait and continue observing the situation first.
Besides, he would much rather not have whatever disgusting bits inside were on his shiny metal suit. Thus, with full vigilance, Viktor silently moved up to the top deck to check the surrounding situation there.
When he reached the yacht deck, a dozen of those creatures had already occupied the area. Not only that, but more of them continued to come every second.
Just as he finally reached the top deck, he noticed Radcliff joining a Heaven's Will guild member who was battling a Salamander on the starboard side. Meanwhile, on the port side stood the Templars.
Captain Landin's shouts instructing his men to get into formation clearly reached Viktor's ears. As he observed the Templars one by one, he found that Viez, Jessie, and Liza were also battling the Salamanders among them.
Their burden seemed to be lightened a bit when they got into formation, but it didn't last long. More of the mutants soon jumped up from the lower decks and rushed toward the nearest warrior.
As they continued fighting, Viktor saw that their sharp weapons had difficulty cutting through the creatures' tough, yet slimy scales. Furthermore, when one of the Salamanders spat the slimy fluid at a Templar, the man was immediately stuck in place. No matter how hard he struggled, it was futile.
Their spit could even immobilize a strong Templar; they were truly tricky creatures.
"Metal Guardian!"
Whilst Viktor was in thought, a woman's shout reached his ears. The voice was so familiar that he reacted almost instantly, looking all around him to find the source of the voice.
From the same direction he first spotted Captain Landin, Jessie and Viez were struggling hand-in-hand covered in disgusting slime. Viktor hurriedly jumped toward them and, with the North Fist technique, threw two Salamanders off the yacht right into the deep sea.
He didn't even think for a second before he moved; he only realized what he just did when he met the two's eyes.
"Are you all right?" whispered Viktor.
"Good thing you came in time, Boss," Viez responded with relief, panting.
Meanwhile, after seeing that they were safe for the time being, Jessie's attention was quickly diverted by the sticky slime stuck all over her body. She tried to clean it with her weapon, but more of it ended up covering her baton instead, restricting her even more.
"Damn it, this thing!! Why is it so hard to remove!?"
Observing their condition for a moment, Viktor quickly found out why they were overwhelmed so quickly.
Most of the adventurers here were fighters. They relied on their physical strength and agility, while the sticky slime from the Salamanders greatly restricted their movements. As a result, they had to expend extra energy to continue fighting, thus tiring themselves much faster.
"Use spells!" Viktor shouted as loud as he could. In spite of the helmet slightly muffling his voice, his words still reached all the warriors who were currently in battle.
As he surveyed the area once again, he noticed Liza's figure surrounded by three Salamanders. She was relying on her ice claws to fight, but no matter how fierce her attacks were, they were ineffective against them.
These creatures seemed to have a high resistance to cold as well.
Seeing the lady in distress, the surrounding warriors hurriedly moved to help her. However, Viktor was the fastest among them; before they could even reach her, he had nimbly approached the Salamanders one by one and delivered a powerful fist for each.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
The power of his punches took the warriors aback. The Salamanders were thrown back into the sea, and the only one who wasn't staggered backward for a bit before ultimately falling into the sea.
Viktor was about to check on Liza's condition when a group of people in white uniforms came out to the decks.
They were the sailors under Captain Marvin's crew.
Most of them brought some kind of metal spear with two blades, a huge one to pierce and a small one functioning as a hook.
But that wasn't what attracted Viktor's attention the most. Among the white-uniformed sailors, a few of them wore some sort of backpack consisting of two wide silver tubes, and connected to it was a handheld hose.
"Is that a flamethrower? Against these aquatic creatures?" Viktor thought to himself.
The sailors swiftly took position and, as Viktor expected, started shooting flames from the hose. To his surprise, the flames were able to burn off the slippery protective slime covering the creatures, causing them to growl and squirm in pain.
It already seemed painful enough to cause the previously fierce creatures to lie down on the deck dying, but right after, the other sailors promptly moved to stab them with the spear. One used the hook to hold the Salamanders off, while another stabbed into a spot right above its head.
The moment the spearhead pierced the Salamander's head, some remains of its brain splattered out along with its end.
More bursts of flame were shot throughout the decks. Moments after, the mutants started to jump off the decks and back into the sea one by one, fleeing for their lives. The warriors who were previously battling with their lives on the line stopped and watched as the sailors cleaned up the creatures with ease.
<Ahh, they're getting away… I was hoping to see some exciting action, but this isn't fun at all…> complained the Djinn in his mind.
Soon after the clean-up was done, Viktor and the others noticed Captain Marvis approaching in Viktor's direction from behind.
"I apologize for not moving quickly enough. Is anybody injured?"
At just a glance, it was obvious that the captain was experienced in dealing with these creatures. He and his group of two dozen sailors were well-prepared to wipe out various sea mutants; they just needed to grab the appropriate tools for the attacking creatures.
But this time, Viktor was a little surprised as well.
"Once again, I apologize. We didn't think that they would ambush us so suddenly… They're getting smarter each day."
Captain Marvis then looked around and asked, "Is Young Master Viktor all right?"
Upon hearing the captain's worry, one of the Heaven's Will guild members chuckled. "I bet he's still sleeping in his cabin, haha."
Ignoring the man, Viktor in the Metal Guardian suit said, "It's all right, Captain. I'm sure that everyone is fine thanks to your timely arrival."
The captain looked at him for a moment in response before observing the condition of the surrounding people.
"Good. I assure you, such a thing won't happen again." He nodded.
Soon, as the Salamanders were already taken care of, the sailors quickly put back their weapons and returned out carrying brooms.
The crew cleaned up the deck, and their voyage continued.
After excusing himself, Viktor silently slipped away and returned to his cabin, leaving the others to do their duties. He was about to close his eyes and go back to rest when the Djinn spoke again.
<Don't get too comfortable. Something is residing deep in the sea, something you'd never wish to meet.>
Viktor shrugged and closed his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, please wake me up if any real danger comes up."
