147 Escape

In the luminous temple above a hectic confrontation continued, because of the speed of the participants and the luminous nature of the area it was difficult for any outside person to perceive exactly what was going on the only indication that a battle was in motion was the sounds of destructions that could be intermittently heard.

A decorative pillar was soon destroyed as a figure had crashed into it, it was zero she had been distracted by the vibrations of the spatial maze below after all the main ingredient in the formation of that space was her domain, the corpse of gladius had taken advantage of her slight distraction, zero leapt from her current position dodging the attack that destroyed the remnants of the dismantled pillar, the smoke cleared to reveal it was a fist that she had dodged, the corpse had already preliminary absorbed the slight divinity that gladius previously possessed and this had greatly increased the solidity of its body,

It had only been a few minutes since the clash between both of them began, time up here and in the spatial maze flowed differently, this was deliberately made in order for there to be more time for zero agenda down there to be completed, so although she had basically just began the clash with gladius quite a long time had elapsed down below so she wasn’t too surprised by the vibrations that occurred what amazed her, however, was the contents of the message those vibrations delivered.

A roar filled with malice interrupted her thoughts as the corpse shot towards her, its claws swiping towards her heart, she calmly resolved the attack from the claw with one of her daggers as her other hand wielded the second blade seemingly regarding the air as liquid as it moved with a peculiar swimming motion that incredibly incorporated the surrounding space into the stab. ‘boom’ a loud noise resounded as the attack reached its mark but did not gain the effect she expected as the corpse was simply blasted into a nearby wall and its neck in a peculiar posture instead of it being pieced as the assassin envisaged. The next moment the environment of the temple changed as a projection of the spatial maze beneath it appeared before anyone could even think about what was happening the temple shook vigorously and the space cracks rapidly emerged with suspicious black colored liquid oozing out while a loud deafening sound occurred.

It turns out ‘grant’ had detonated the stellar body creating an explosion that destroyed the spatial maze underneath the temple letting all the black mud surge out destroying whatever complicated preparations that had been laid down in the previous maze like area, its disintegration seemed to create a chain effect affecting the temple above, with these events occurred almost simultaneously two figures shot out of one of the space cracks.

Zero ignored the reappearance of the two and just stared intently at the centre of the explosion waiting for something, although the procedure for the resurrection of her teammate had been forcefully stopped there was no panic on her face after all this wasn’t the first time the plan went awry.

The procedure for the resurrection of Lilith was a complicated one, due to a lot of changes once they entered the plane a lot of pre-made plans went awry, it was expected that even when the black mud was released it would only slowly effect changes in the plane and function as a sort of underworld but no one expected that Layton’s psionic would cause such an effect on the substance, no one expected that the mutated black mud would have a strange effect on the plane will or that there was also a necromancer who had already settled and focused on this plane trying to carry out an unknown purpose.

All these made Lilith’s return harder than it was supposed to be, Zero had been dormant for years creating opportunities for the existence and birth of the inner world, she had slowly influenced gladius and supported the collaboration between the deities, necromancer and the plane will, she finally settled in gladius temple for the final link in the awakening ritual, the temple above and the spatial maze below was an intricate link allowing eroded areas to serve its true function which was connecting to the rumored inner realm via the black mud that flowed through both material plane and the inner realm, the ‘key’ which the necromancer was frantically searching for was none other than Lilith’s rune in material form which lay in the center of the now destroyed maze, the original plan was to slowly insert the rune into the gap between the inner world and the material plane allowing the instinct of the rune to play, coupled with the numerous attracted black mud that flowed freely interacting with numerous divinity knowledge and rules of the material plane Lilith’s body would be reconstructed without too much sacrifice, but now it seems that goal couldn’t be achieved.

With a bang, a huge crack sound like that of a mirror breaking seemed to resound in the world as the city of gods they resided in started to perish, killing all life that relied on it for existence, the souls of the city and residents crushed to tiny bits and an extreme death breath was attracted to the ‘key’, zero using her link with the key immediately appeared next to it and melded into the huge amounts of black mud that flowed into the passage to the inner realm before it was closed due to the disintegration of the temple and the city.

.....

‘Grant’ watched this scene silently, the events occurred so fast that the necromancer did not have time to effectively react. Once ‘grant’ was sure zero was gone he started burning his already mutilated mind, the resulting copious amount of energy was sent out in a subtle wave like a silent electronic message before the knight closed his eyes and embraced the silence that was death.

Sandro had no idea what was going on but his sensitive soul was warning him something was wrong, this feeling began from the explosion to the escape of zero, and finally, the death of ‘grant’, each of these events happened too quickly and bizarrely for him not to believe there was no connection between them. Although the knight was dead his body could possibly provide some insights into his actions so the necromancer strode towards the cold body, he was just about to stretch his palm towards the knight when he felt a foreign manic presence appear in front of him and the faint psionic star in the distance hidden by sunlight pulsed and turned an alarming red colour.
