141 Undercurrent

Nicholas dashed forward, his body was piercing through the air at high speeds and coupled with the electricity he was generating it created the illusion that he had turned into lightning itself. Jason who was now coated with green energy let out a roar when he noticed the lighting fly past him and head towards his companion with a jerk he started burning his life force disregarding the strain of his body and muscles and leapt towards Jessica.

The lightning did not stop for a moment and simply pieced through what seemed to be the stunned female mage, the lightning disappeared revealing Nicholas with a fist going through the abdomen of the female mage but the next second a huge boom resounded as the female mage exploded with a bang releasing copious amount of energy into the immediate surroundings.

Through the numerous butterflies that were spreading around Jessica was able to calculate and faintly guess the trajectory of the attack and so she was aware that Nicholas was coming for her, using the spell she had prepared earlier she quickly switched her body with an avatar comprising of the butterflies she had scattered around earlier. Of course, using such a high-end spell in an instant was not without cost and this was evident in her body as blood leaked from her closed lips and nose when she reappeared some distance away.

Despite being injured she didn’t let it stop her as she withstood the piercing pain her body and spirit emitted and snapped her fingers making the butterflies around Nicholas explode releasing concentrated fire attribute mana.

Nicholas who was in the midst of the explosion used the force to push himself outside of the zone of the attack, he hadn’t flown a few feet from the blast zone when a terrifying axe was making way towards his neck, the timing of the attack was simply impeccable Nicholas was still somewhat affected by the explosion before and he was still in the air being pushed out by the force of the blast coupled with the simple but beautiful trajectory that the energy coated axe followed towards his head this was simply an attack that Nicholas could not dodge in such a short moment and he wasn’t planning to, twisting his body in midair Nicholas sent a kick towards the weapon, his legs drew a trail of lightning as they moved, the swift kick accelerated at alarming speeds if one looked closely they would find that the kick was accelerated by the charged electromagnetic field surrounding Nicholas much like the principle of an electromagnetic railgun.

In mere seconds the kick and the axe intersected with enormous force, pushing both Jason and Nicholas moving through the air in opposite directions, whilst in the air before he landed Nicholas found himself surrounded by red butterflies, kicking the air in front of him he managed to make use of the empty air to propel himself forward as he moved towards the ground escaping the explosion that soon occurred, almost immediately Nicholas reached the floor and shot forward once again like a shell fired out of a cannon towards the mage, only this time Jason was already there and a simple cleave stopped the speeding Nicholas, the fist and the metal of the axe and in the swift moment Nichols was stooped a dagger shot out from the shadow of Jason heading towards Nicholas.

Nicholas almost couldn’t detect the assassination, the dagger this time wasn’t made of metal but of a weird bone meal coupled with Nicholas’s reduced defence due to the use of his unfinished array to fight the effects of the domain the blade swiftly headed unimpeded towards his neck. Like jelly the part of his neck in the way of the incoming blade sunk inward just enough for the attack to only graze his skin and then he stepped backwards only to send his other fist towards the attacker.

Cherry who was watching the scene with interest outside the room suddenly became distracted, a special screen only she could see lit up in the depths of her mind and on the panel was a simple video of a man heading towards the eroded territory of one of the descended gods.

Cherry, apart from being the head of this hidden research base was also the hidden leader of the crows and the individual that just appeared on the screen was one of the priority targets they had surveillance on, the target had his shadow on various major events including the recent one that enabled the deities to descend back to the world. And from the looks of things his destination was none other than the temple of the lord of brilliance and glory who was arguably one of the most influential deities around, the combination of the two was not a good sign especially this close to the opening of the inner world. A venue which according to various sources, divination and calculation possessed the keys which would allow individuals to confer god an opportunity which the powerhouses stuck in the gap between legendary realm and godhood had been looking forward to for a long time, this also included the descended deities who wished to regain their power and priesthood.

.....

The opening of the venue was coming soon and all forces were gearing up, in fact the combat test Nicholas was undergoing was a result of this as the rules of the inner world were unknown and may require individuals below a certain stage or age to participate. Staring at the individual on the screen who was leisurely passing through various eroded places with the monsters inside turning a blind eye to his presence, as he progressed deeper into the territory the technological means she used to monitor him became blurred, with a hint of hesitation on her face cherry decided to activate her talent to monitor the situation, although Nicholas had previously helped to curb the disadvantages of her talent, it was still not a pleasant experience to activate it, the feeling of losing various emotions and the omen of one’s soul being sucked into a foreign body was not enjoyable to say the least, even if the body was that of a mysterious angel.
