406 A FAKE MISSION

There was no more big screen in the boring white room, and that was why Bai Chen couldn’t see what was going on around his body anymore. The last thing he could see on the screen was how Wu Jinhai, Yu Ming, and Wu Jingguo obeyed the Immortal Elder’s order to leave the forest.

After the three men left, the screen disappeared in an instant, and instead of being accompanied by the screen, Bai Chen was with another man now.

It was a man in white clothes, even his skin looked very white that it was almost translucent, and he had long, white hair that brushed down his back. He was not old, but it could not be said that he was young either. At first glance, the man looked like he was only slightly older than Yu Ming, but Bai Chen knew that the man was actually much older than the fish demon.

“This is your true appearance as an Immortal Elder, right?” Bai Chen asked the man standing in front of him. “I don’t really remember when I met you in the past, but I don’t understand why I called you ‘grandfather’ when you don’t look old at all. You also shouldn’t feel comfortable by the way I used to call you because you still look young.”

The Immortal Elder indeed didn’t look old as he had stopped aging all those years ago. There were no visible wrinkles on his face, and even his blue eyes could still stare intently at Bai Chen without losing their focus.

For some reason, Bai Chen thought that the Immortal Elder was giving off an intimidating and calming aura at the same time. Perhaps that was a charm that only the Immortal Elder possessed, and that was why Bai Chen secretly admired the man.

“Are you just praising my flawless look even if I’m already so old, Bai Chen?” The Immortal Elder replied in amusement, and Bai Chen almost couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes lazily.

After all, the Immortal Elder was still Bai Lang who could be annoying sometimes.

There was an amused smile on the Elder’s face, but then he became more serious as he spoke again, “I don’t understand that either, but maybe that’s the reason why I have liked you since you were little, Bai Chen. You were still so young at that time, but you could easily see the real me through my youthful appearance. It makes me feel that I can always be honest with you.”

.....

The Elder had just said that he had liked him many years ago, but Bai Chen almost snorted when he heard that.

“You didn’t show that you liked me when you were in the form of a little wolf named Bai Lang. Maybe Bai Lang isn’t even your real name, right?” Bai Chen replied, and that was the reason why he almost snorted when he heard the Elder’s words.

“You are mistaken,” the Immortal Elder immediately replied. “Bai Lang is my real name, and I used to use that name before I became immortal. People who knew that name died long ago, so only you know that name now.”

That fact was quite a shock to Bai Chen. The first time the little white wolf introduced himself using that name, Bai Chen almost snorted at it. What name was “Bai Lang”? Just because he was a white wolf, he was called Bai Lang?

That name did sound ridiculous, and that was why Bai Chen thought that the Immortal Elder had just randomly chosen that name to fool him. Who would have thought that that name was the Elder’s real name before he became immortal?

Bai Chen didn’t expect that, but the matters related to names probably shouldn’t concern him for the time being. Instead, he needed to talk to Bai Lang about something else.

“Why did you help me take the position of Crown Prince? It was you who gave me the mission to become the Emperor of this empire, right? Why did you end up helping me complete the mission?” Bai Chen asked, and that one thing did spark his curiosity right after Bai Lang finished appointing him as the new Crown Prince of Dong Lang in front of Bai Guowei.

Even Bai Guowei was speechless, but Bai Chen still wanted to hear confirmation from the Immortal Elder.

When Bai Chen looked very serious asking the question, Bai Lang suddenly chuckled before replying, “You’re talking about the mission, ah? Maybe you won’t like hearing my answer, but the mission I gave you isn’t real, Bai Chen. The mission existed just to motivate you so that you can save this empire and your people, but that’s not real. Even if you fail to complete that mission, you will not die easily because I have given you a second chance to live in this world.”

“…” Bai Chen no longer answered, but somehow he didn’t look too surprised after hearing Bai Lang’s answer.

From the start, he had somehow thought that Bai Lang was just toying with him. The so-called missions given by the system were all ridiculous, so there was no way they were real missions.

At this moment, Bai Chen was too lazy to even shout at the Immortal Elder. It wasn’t because he was too afraid of the Elder, but it was simply because he was too lazy. In front of other people, the Immortal Elder looked like someone wise and reliable, but in Bai Chen’s eyes, the Immortal Elder was just a bored child.

“In the blink of an eye, I became the new Crown Prince of Dong Lang thanks to you, but I don’t even feel happy about that,” Bai Chen replied. “My father was right when he said that people would doubt my ability to become the next ruler of Dong Lang. I have no power within my body, so how can I protect my people in the future?”

Bai Chen was not greedy, especially after learning the truth that the main mission that Bai Lang had given to become Emperor in Dong Lang was just a fake mission. He didn’t want to be Emperor at all, and he thought more about the future of his people. That was why he questioned the Elder instead of directly accepting his role as the new Crown Prince of Dong Lang.

“You doubt yourself just because you no longer have a Power Crystal, huh?” Bai Lang calmly asked back instead of answering. “If that’s the only thing that makes you feel unsure about your future role as ruler of this realm, then I’ll give you my Power Crystal. How about it, Bai Chen?”
