218 FREE THE SOUL

Bai Chen still remembered how Wu Jinhai had guided him before the sword recognized him as its new master. The Eldest Prince of Wu Li had also said that he should call the sword by its name, and now Bai Chen felt a sense of déjà vu when he heard how Zhu Ge had also said that he should call out the name of the sword as well.

‘Zhu Ge looks more and more like Wu Jinhai. I must meet Wu Jinhai as soon as possible so that I can immediately ask him about many things including Zhu Ge,’ he thought to himself as he continued to stare at the man in red.

Bai Chen didn’t want to doubt Zhu Ge, but he could somehow sense that the man was hiding something from him, and that was why he needed to find out more information about the man from others as the man didn’t seem to have any intentions to tell him anything.

That was why Bai Chen knew that he shouldn’t waste any time, and he immediately brought Wu Jiang close to his face as he followed Zhu Ge’s guidance.

It was actually quite strange because Bai Chen even listened to Zhu Ge when talking about Wu Jiang. Zhu Ge wasn’t even Wu Jiang’s master, but Bai Chen was willing to listen to the man as if he easily believed that the man knew a lot about the sword.

He didn’t even know why he was thinking like that, but he still listened to Zhu Ge’s words, and that was why Wu Jiang was now right in front of his face as he said, “Wu Jiang, can you fly by yourself now? I need to scatter my brother’s ashes into the river, and you will be of great help if you can fly by yourself without needing me to hold you.”

It sounded like Bai Chen was trying to coax a child, and because he was too focused on the sword in front of his face, he didn’t notice that Zhu Ge was trying to hold back his laughter as he watched how adorable the Prince was when the Prince tried to persuade the sword.

Fortunately, the one Bai Chen coaxed was an obedient child, and even if it wasn’t a real child, the sword listened to Bai Chen very well as it immediately broke free from Bai Chen’s hand before flying through the air by itself.

Wu Jiang didn’t even have a pair of wings on the blade, but it could fly through the air like a bird, and Bai Chen looked amazed at the show before his eyes. For some reason, he thought that Wu Jiang was more alive now, and it was not just a soulless sword that he could hold in his hand.

.....

Subconsciously, Bai Chen smiled to the side as if he was a proud parent watching his child grow up, and Zhu Ge finally couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore.

Bai Chen, of course, could hear the crisp laughter coming from the other man, and he immediately turned to the man to see how the man even needed to hold his stomach when he laughed like crazy.

“What is so funny?” The brown-haired Prince immediately snapped at the taller man when he realized that the man was laughing at him now.

Zhu Ge was still laughing, and he even dramatically wiped away the non-existent tears in the corner of his eye, but only a small chuckle remained as he answered the Prince’s question, “You look like this sword’s mother, Bai Chen.”

“...” Bai Chen really wanted to slap Zhu Ge.

He was offended by how Zhu Ge insulted him, but he once again remembered how Wu Jinhai also treated the sword as his son, and the masked man even acted as if the two of them were the parents of the sword.

That was crazy, and Bai Chen was also angry when Wu Jinhai said that he could be Wu Jiang’s mother, and he once again felt a sense of déjà vu after Zhu Ge acted similarly to the masked man for the second time.

However, Bai Chen only shook his head to get rid of any unnecessary thoughts. Yes, he believed that the thoughts were unnecessary because his main focus now was to scatter Bai Renshu’s ashes into the river, and after his work was done, he was finally able to meet Wu Jinhai.

That was his plan for today, and he thought that he had been wasting time since he and Zhu Ge arrived at the river, and that was why he sighed before his eyes finally left Zhu Ge as he squatted by the river with Bai Renshu’s ashes in his hand.

Now he had one hand free, and that was why he could easily use his free hand to open the lid of the porcelain jar containing the Crown Prince’s ashes. He placed the porcelain lid on the ground next to his feet, and his blue eyes immediately focused on the ashes in the jar.

Whether it was in his previous life or this new life, the ashes were still the same gray and looked lifeless. Of course, it would look lifeless. The ashes were only Bai Renshu’s remains, and the man’s soul was no longer there after Bai Renshu decided to commit suicide three days ago.

Nonetheless, Bai Chen still needed to release the ashes to free Bai Renshu’s soul, and that was why he immediately extended his hands toward the water in the river before pouring the ashes into the river.

The thin and tiny particles that used to be a part of Bai Renshu’s body immediately burst out of the jar before they flew with the wind and fell into the river, and Bai Chen somehow felt the heavy weight lighten on his chest.

‘You are free from this cruel world now, Bai Renshu. Rest well, and I hope we will meet again in the afterlife, but I hope I can be your real brother when we meet again.’
