Chapter 74 An Intruder And A NoteVillain Ch 74. An Intruder And A Note
The ethereal tendrils of sleep slowly released their grip on Jane, as she stirred from her slumber. With a sudden jolt, she opened her eyes, disoriented and confused. A quick glance at the clock revealed that it was 03.17 PM, a time most people would associate with the waning hours of daylight.
Rubbing her eyes, Jane gazed around her apartment, still groggy from her deep sleep. Her gaze took in her living room, which was bathed in a warm glow from the sun. She had fallen asleep on her couch yet again, a habit that had become all too familiar to her.
'I fell asleep on the couch again...' she thought. It was not a strange occurrence anymore, as she sometimes had to stay up late to finish her work. As a translator, deadlines were her constant companion.
Jane's mind was still foggy. She sat down and noticed that something was amiss. A soft, plush blanket slipped from her body.
She frowned in confusion. 'Okay... This is definitely unusual,' she thought. Her senses were quickly on alert. Her hands reached for the blanket.
Jane's heart began to race as her mind processed the implications of the blanket's presence. She knew that it was her blanket, the same one she had tucked away on the edge of the couch in case she needed it for a movie marathon or falling asleep just like this. But she never used it again after she decided to unsubscribe from her Netplik account.
As she clutched the blanket tightly to her chest, she felt a wave of confusion wash over her. How could it be here, when she hadn't touched it in months? The only logical explanation was that someone had just entered her apartment, and that thought was enough to make her blood run cold.
Spontaneously, she stood up, her thoughts racing, her mind a jumble of fear and confusion. She scanned the room, her eyes darting from corner to corner, looking for any sign of a break-in. But everything seemed to be in its place, and there were no obvious signs of a struggle. Had they left already? Or were they still here, hiding in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike?
She wished she had someone to turn to in a time like this. Someone to share her fear with, someone to offer her comfort and protection. For a moment, Jane regretted her decision to live alone. Maybe she should have looked for a roommate, someone to share the rent and the responsibilities of keeping the apartment secure. But it was too late for that now, and she was stuck here, facing the unknown, alone.
With a deep breath, Jane forced herself to calm down, to focus on the task at hand. She had to find out who the intruder was, and she had to do it quickly.
Jane cautiously stepped forward, her eyes darted around, searching for any sign of the intruder. Her heart was still pounding in her chest, and she was acutely aware of the weight of the blanket draped over her shoulders.
And then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted something on the kitchen counter. It was a plate, with what looked like a sandwich on it. Her frown deepened as she moved closer, her mind racing with confusion. She couldn't remember cooking anything, and she had already finished her food at the cafe earlier in the day.
No... Thinking twice, she didn't even remember that she had put away her groceries yet it wasn't on the kitchen counter as usual.
With her heart pounding in her chest, Jane approached the kitchen counter slowly, her steps cautious and deliberate.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Jane called. She had one hand ready to call the police emergency call.
Jane called out into the empty room, her voice echoing off the walls in a hollow, eerie silence. The only response was the soft rustling of fabric as she moved toward the kitchen, her feet dragging against the floor.
It was then that she spotted it - a small note beside the plate. As she picked up, her mind began to clear, and she remembered what happened.
"Oh, right! Allen helped me!" she said, exhaling a long breath. She felt relieved and put down her phone. A wave of relief washed over her. She exhaled deeply, feeling grateful for his help.
Looking at the swipe lock on the door, she noticed that it was still in the unlocked position. It was clear that Allen had left the room, probably on his way back to his own apartment. But Jane didn't panic. She had taken precautions and installed an automatic lock similar to a hotel door.
She had also informed the building security. With CCTV cameras on every floor, she knew that the security team would be able to keep an eye on her in case she fell asleep in the hallway.
Jane picked up the sandwich and took a bite, she felt a sense of warmth spread throughout her body. It had been a long time since someone had cooked for her, and the simple act of preparing a sandwich and leaving it for her had touched her deeply.
As she continued to eat, unconsciously, tears began to trickle down her cheeks. It was such a small gesture, but it filled her heart with happiness and gratitude. She couldn't help feeling a little foolish for getting emotional over a sandwich, but at the same time, it felt like a reminder there was still kindness and compassion to be found in this world.
The sandwich was nothing out of the ordinary, just a standard egg sandwich like the ones she used to make for herself. But somehow, it tasted better than anything she had made herself in a long time. Perhaps it was the simple fact that someone had made it for her, or maybe it was the emotions that were tied up in the experience. Whatever the reason, Jane felt a deep sense of contentment and peace as she ate.
With renewed energy, Jane made her way to the bathroom. The warm water from the showerhead was a welcome relief after her long day. She let the water wash over her, feeling it soothe her tired muscles and wash away her worries.
After her shower, she dried off and got dressed, feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever the game had for her next. She picked up her phone and opened the group chat to ask if anyone was online, especially Allen. She only found a list of their skill tree that was in the attachment group chat.
Unfortunately, Allen didn't reply, leaving her feeling a little disappointed. But just as she was about to give up hope, someone else replied to her message...
