The enemy enhanced his spear with fire magic before the impact, and a massive explosion happened when the attacks hit each other. Billy smirked when he saw another dust curtain surrounding them. Who could have thought that the enemy would help him that much… Regardless, he used that chance to cover his sword with dark flames, and then the weapons that were once on equal levels of power suddenly broke their balance. The flames cut through the spear and then cut the robotic spearman diagonally.
You obtained 125.000 coins.
The skill Flames of Wrath has leveled up.
The skill Swordsmanship has leveled up.
Your recovery increased by twenty points.
Jake sighed in relief when that happened, but then he clicked his tongue when he felt some presence approaching. When the dust curtain disappeared, Jake saw some people approaching and taking over the base of the robotic spearman… they probably couldn't use the crystal since Jake was the one who defeated him. Still, Jake couldn't approach that base.
When Jake returned to his own base, he saw fighting taking place on the bats' base. Another group of humans had appeared and attacked it from all sides. A lot of people had attacked the home, even though Jake was pretty sure that humans couldn't work together to defend a single base.
"Assholes… so it has come down to this, huh," Jake said.
The underlings of the guild masters were probably the guys who had done that… they ignored the quest's goal just to surround him. After doing his best to calm down, Jake decided to buy some potions and then summon as many crystal wolves he could. This time, he would go all out if those assholes were truly planning to pick a fight. Still, he couldn't imagine that they were there for any other reason.
After a while, Jake noticed that someone from the former robotic spearman camp was coming, and he realized who it was even from a distance… it was Luke. Considering his innate skill, he was probably one of the best guys out there to chase people, and unlike the criminals, Billy wasn't that hard to track since he was mostly solo all the time.
"Hey, champ," Luke said, trying to sound as friendly as usual. "Can we talk for a bit?"
"Sure, I am listening," Jake said.
"Why don't you show up?" Luke asked.
"Why don't you come here?" Jake asked.
"Should I approach?" Luke asked.
"Do you want to approach?" Jake asked. "Your friends won't be nearby to help you if you try something. I have been trying to be reasonable as of late, but I decided to change my policy. Those who point their weapons at me will die, without exception."
"Come on, I thought we were friends," Luke said while shrugging.
"That is one weird way to express your friendship," Jake said. "Using your groupies to surround me out of fear for a dream."
"I wanted to come alone, but the other guild masters are quite wary of you. Should they be wary?" Luke asked.
"I don't know, you tell me," Jake replied.
"... What do you feel about that dream?" Luke asked.
"I don't feel anything in particular," Jake replied. "Did I attack any of you until now? Despite that, you felt the urge to surround my home and now my base. If anything, you guys are the ones acting suspiciously now."
"You can't deny that those memories are worrisome, even if they belong to people of this dimension. You can tell that we have some similarities with the people of this universe," Luke said.
"You think so? Then you guys have traitor's blood in your veins?" Jake asked. "Just like before, you guys are trying to surround me, but this time, you are afraid of what I can become or how much power I can obtain. Do you deny that?"
"... This isn't going anywhere…" Luke said. "We need to solve this, and we need your cooperation, Jake. Come with us and prove that you won't become like him."
"Changing the subject when things become inconvenient for you? That is funny," Jake said. "You want my cooperation? Do you also want to see me butt naked and go blindfolded as well? Are you that stupid or naive? I have many more reasons for being cautious of you guys based on your actions here. If you are that fearful of something I didn't do, then you are welcome to come here and try to defeat me. Still, as usual, you should come prepared…"
Luke stayed silent for a moment, and then he turned around and returned to his base. That was within Billy's expectations. He wouldn't pick a fight with him so soon. He would wait for Billy to get tired and then chip away his strength with small attacks during the next few days.
"I should prepare some traps… inside the base since the others will notice what I can do," Jake thought. "Wait… I can do that…"
Jake had another idea and then put it into motion. He wondered why no one else had tried to do that so far, but it was definitely possible. Against the enemies that wanted to surprise him, Jake was going to give them one hell of a surprise as well.
Somehow, it seemed that Luke's group managed to hijack the crystal and obtain control over it. While Luke's base was summoning ice golems to counter Jake's ordinary golems, the other camp was summoning harpies… they weren't particularly good against the crystal wolves, but aerial attacks were as annoying as they could be.
For a full day, nothing major happened, but then Billy saw two other groups of monsters approaching from east and west. They even managed to get enemies in those directions, even though those camps were pretty far away… Maybe Luke was right, and other guilds were too cautious of him to leave him alone for too long. Still, he wasn't going to play the game the way they wanted.
