"Are they elves?" Jake thought. "Then again… if the liches are elves that turned into undead, I guess they are from this world. Still… something seems wrong here."
It seemed that the liches had destroyed half of that village and then killed only a few of the inhabitants while the others had been only beaten half to death. Jake was pretty sure that they would be turned into liches. Still, he couldn't imagine that it would immediately turn them into evil creatures. He had heard that vampires, when they are turned, they are bound to follow all the orders of the vampire that turned them, but could be the same thing be applied there? It was possible if magic is involved, rather, anything is possible when magic is involved.
"Well, I can follow them now… so let's not think too much about it and reach conclusions based on evidence instead of guesses," Jake thought.
Jake thought that the inhabitants of that world would move from places easy to attack after learning that some villages had been destroyed by the liches. Moreover, when Jake checked their statuses, they weren't anything great. While they lived close to a dungeon, their parameters were way worse than Jake's. Several things looked weird in that situation, but Jake decided to forget about them when the liches began to transport hundreds of prisoners with them. Only fifty of those had been enough to defeat four or five times more of the villagers…
Usually, when someone decides to create an army, they usually call those who want to serve or force others to obey their will, and usually, an army is used for wars. Since the liches were planning to turn the people of that world into liches, Jake couldn't guess against whom they were planning to wage war. There were many things that he needed to discover in order to draw the full picture of the situation, but he didn't like what he was seeing already.
"For the liches to act like this… they must have a leader," Jake thought while he was following that group from behind. "Are they planning to turn all the people of this world into liches? Is that why the system created this quest?"
Eventually, it got dark enough that Jake could barely see what was one hundred meters away. Still, he could follow the group ahead just by hearing their footsteps in the distance. They were that noisy.
Although some of the wounded fell along the way, the liches used some magic to make them recover and keep moving. Jake knew that their camp wouldn't be close. Still, he didn't imagine that they would have to walk throughout the whole night… his condition was worsening a little, so perhaps he will have to find a place to rest before attacking the liches.
"The more I think about it, the more I realize that this quest wasn't something that a single person should try to complete… considering the power of the liches, it seems that the difficulty level will be a lot higher than expected," Jake thought while he was watching the sun rising.
Two hours after the sunrise, Jake noticed the group approaching a pretty high hill, but then he also saw the entrance of a hideout on it. It certainly was something made out of magic, and it was supposed to be mimicking the appearance of a dungeon. In any case, the whole group disappeared there, and while Jake couldn't find any lookouts around, he couldn't approach recklessly.
"This area appears to be free of monsters, so I guess I can rest here…" Jake thought while looking around.
Jake would have to check things for a while, but after watching the enemy's base until noon and not seeing any of them leave the place, he assumed that they only left when it was night. Considering that they attacked during the day, it didn't seem like they couldn't move or suffered damage, but they obviously disliked sunlight.
After looking for a nice place to rest, Jake found a relatively dense grove a few hundred meters from the hideout. Unless the liches get really close, they won't see him, and if they do, Jake will wake up before they could attack him. He had such a light sleep, after all. In the end, after just sleeping for five hours, Jake woke up when the sun was setting and felt quite refreshed. He also resumed his task of watching the enemy's hideout. Eventually, a new group left the place and headed north.
"I should follow and then attack once they are far away enough from their base," Jake thought. "Still, against fifty enemies that have parameters higher than mine, what should I do?"
The bow wouldn't be of much use unless Jake manages to kill all the enemies with a single shot, and in a couple of minutes and at night… it was very unlikely. After looking at their parameters and at his own skills, Jake had one idea. As usual, it was risky, and he didn't have room for mistakes, but he decided to put it into motion anyway.
Jake assumed that they had pretty good eyes since they were moving at night, so he approached them very slowly and used as many obstacles on the way as possible to conceal his presence. He even used the wind when it blew stronger than usual.
When he was fifty meters away from them, Jake began to feel confident in his stealth skill. While he didn't make that one level up a lot, he was using it rather well. Still, he focused on the task ahead since he couldn't get carried away. When he was twenty meters away from that group of liches, Jake equipped his katana and the long freezing sword…
