Chapter 203: Not a Narrow Minded Person
“No, you’re right.” Director Liu had a gentle smile on his face, one that was gentler than any other time. ”
“But, now that the crew is ready to start the filming process, it’s too late to change the script,” Tan Mo said. “Seeing how you hired a consultant means that you really wanted to film a true historical drama. However, the script you have now might cause problems in the future if you are going to promote it as one.”
If Tan Jinqi were the one who said that, it would seem like he was trying to prove that he was best than his superior. Since he didn’t know what kind of a person Director Liu was, he had no idea how the director would react to that.
That was why it would be better if Tan Mo was the one who said it.
Tan Jinqi turned to his little sister and smiled. This little brat…
The oldest brother knew what Tan Mo was planning. It was as if suddenly, one day, instead of protecting her, she became to one who was protecting him and her two other brothers.
Despite feeling touched by it, Tan Jinqi also had a sense of helplessness.
He was touched because it showed that Tan Mo cared a lot about them. That was why she had been protecting them.
The sense of helplessness was how the three brothers seemed incompetent as they needed the youngest among the siblings to protect them.
However, what surprised the oldest brother was the fact that Tan Mo was so considerate that she could see the whole picture.
“You are completely correct,” Director Liu sighed. “But, if I want to do a historical drama, it has to be true to the real history. I don’t want to promote something as one but produce something that’s only meant to entertain people. The actors that I invited accepted my invitation because they also want to be a part of a true historical drama. If I let them act in a drama that only has romance, then I would be tricking them.”
Director Liu turned to glare and Yuan Qishan, and the latter felt a chill down her spine.
“And I have invested way too much time and energy into this drama. All I wanted is to produce something meaningful,” the director said. “If the script isn’t up to standard, then I would rather give up on the project.”
The truth was that every script Yuan Qishan wrote was sent to him to review first. He was also the one who approved the script they were going to use as he didn’t find any problem with it.
It wasn’t until Tan Mo’s explanation that he realized how huge of a problem it had.
“There’s still a week left until the actors arrive,” Director Liu said after thinking about it. “I’ll send the script for Professor Tang to review. I didn’t want to ask for his help at first, but it looks like I have other choices.”
The reason he came to such a decision was that he still wasn’t sure he could trust Tan Mo as she was still too young.
Even if she was a 15-year-old genius who was now a Beijing University student, Director Liu would believe the words of someone with much more experience just like everyone else.
In the end, it was because Tan Mo was still too young.
The director didn’t waste any more time and gave Professor Tang a call right away. “Professor Tang? Hi, this is Liu Runlin. I’m sorry to bother you during your holidays, but I’m about to start filming with the new script, and I was hoping that you can take a look at it? I want to be sure that the script is fit to be called a historical drama.”
Professor Tang was surprised to hear the request. “If I’m not wrong, didn’t I send one of my students over there as a consultant? What did she say?”
“To be honest, she reviewed it and said there was nothing wrong with it,” Director Liu said.
It only made Professor Tang even more curious. Despite her vile personality, the professor was sure that Shen Jingyi still upheld professional ethics.
“It’s just that there are another one of your students here as well,” Director Liu continued. “Her name is Tan Mo.”
Director Liu wanted to make sure that Tan Mo was really one of Professor Tang’s students and wanted to know how she ranked among all the professor’s students and how highly the professor viewed her.
As someone who had been in the entertainment industry for a long time, Director Liu had gathered a lot of knowledge to see that Tan Mo might just have a higher standing in Professor Tang’s heart than Shen Jingyi.
“Tan Mo is there as well?” Professor Tang exclaimed. “Why is she there?”
“Her brother, Tan Jinqi, is our assistant director,” Director Liu explained.
“That brat. She really is protecting her brothers,” Professor Tang laughed.
He didn’t need any other explanation to know that Tan Mo was visiting her brother at work during her winter break.
Even though she was the youngest among the siblings, she was protecting her brothers like she was their older sister.
Director Liu could instantly hear the changes in Professor Tang’s tone. It sounded as if the latter was addressing Tan Mo as if he was addressing his own granddaughter.
That was enough for the director to know that Tan Mo was probably the more important student among her and Shen Jingyi in Professor Tang’s heart.
It felt as if she was more important than how Tan Jinqi had described it, to the point where the director could even tell the difference between how Professor Tang mentioned Tan Mo and how he mentioned Shen Jingyi.
“So, Tan Mo had read the script, right” Professor Tang asked. “What did she say?”
It was now even clearer that Professor Tang fully trusted Tan Mo.
“She said that the script could entertain the viewers, but it cannot be called a historical drama,” Director Liu answered.
“If that’s what she said, then that’s what the script is,” Professor Tang replied without any hesitation.
It only brought more shock to Director Liu.
Professor Tang didn’t even need to read the script to know that Tan Mo was right.
The director was now looking at Tan Mo in a new light.
He was now sure that Tan Mo had the complete trust of Professor Tang.
“How about this? Why don’t you send me the script and let me read through it?” Professor Tang understood the reason for the call. “When does the initial filming start.”
“In one week.”
“And if the script isn’t up to standard, what will you do?” Professor Tang just had to be sure. “There’s no way you can rewrite it, right? It’s going to cost way too much.”
“No, I will rewrite it,” Director Liu assured. “I’d rather invest more in the drama than producing one that’s bad.”
“Good! You have my respect! I’ll finish it as soon as I can.” Professor Tang was happy with the answer.
“Thank you very much!” Director Liu let out a sigh of relief.
“Also, if Shen Jingyi is there, tell her to come back,” Professor Tang added.
“What? Are you saying that I should ask her to leave?”
“Yes. This is partly my fault as well,” Professor Tang apologized. “I shouldn’t have sent you a person that can’ be relied on. It’s because of me that you’re going to suffer some losses. If Shen Jingyi had done her job as she should, this situation would not have happened. Who would’ve thought that she would do her job so poorly.”
“No, it’s not your fault. You don’t have to apologize. It’s not something you could predict.” Even though Director Liu was fed up with the result, but there was no way he could put the blame on Professor Tang.
No matter how high of an EQ Director Liu had, he still couldn’t hold himself back to turn to glare at Shen Jingyi angrily.
Even though he only had a few interactions with the academic community, he would, from time to time, hire scholars as consultants for his projects, just like Director Hou did for his historical drama.
Even though he wasn’t a narrow-minded person, Director Liu had made the decision that whenever he would interact with people from the history academic community, he would have to warn them about Shen Jingyi.
The reason he came to such a decision was that he did not want Shen Jingyi to trouble other people’s projects in the future.
