Chapter 235 - First Trial (4)

Damien's eyes had scanned through the crowd only to realize that he was trying to find someone who wasn't there.

'Why are you trying to find that strange child!?' He chided himself for behaving in such a weird manner.

He had only followed his best friend over to this estate after Taylor had thrown a tantrum to visit that same strange child.

Every time they met, something would always go wrong and he did not know what would happen today.

The first time he had met her at the cafe, he had to sell her the apple pie which was rightfully his.

Though he had made a profit in that sale, he would not forget that his elder brother had to eat half instead of the full piece which was his usual share.

The second time he had met her was at the Kiron tea party and he had gotten punished on that day for sneaking out of his house.

The next was when they had come over to pick Howard up on their way to the Royal Academy.

Well, nothing wrong had happened on that day but he was nonetheless traumatized by their strange meetings.

Today as well, he had no intentions of seeing her after this long absence but due to many twists and turns, he had ended up here anyway.

'I am fated to have a bad day…' He sighed and accepted his ill fate.

While in his thoughts, he could hear his friend speaking to the adults present which he had not attempted from the start.

His eyes swept across the fields as he tried to comprehend the reason why they were here in the first place.

This was when he saw something strange, something which was moving towards them at a considerably high speed.

"Is that…?" A startled voice escaped his lips before he knew it.

This voice alerted the others who also turned to take a look at what had caught his attention.

A monstrous horse, one which resembled a mad bull was rushing in their direction at a very high speed.

The women were terrified to see this sight as they hid behind any secure back they could find.

Raylene used her husband while poor Butler Limo was stuck with Paula, the maid he hated the most as she clung to his arm like a koala.

He tried to shake her away but she did not release him even when he was clearly repulsed by her touch.

Mrs. Jacinth could only clench her fists and stood her ground and continued to pray for the safety of her young miss.

Rutherford and Desmo were the only ones with etchers in this group and they frowned when they felt the energy coming from the direction in which they had been staring unblinkingly.

'What is she trying to do!?' Captain Desmo Reel sneered at his student who was playing with fire.

An etcher's true potential needed to be harnessed only when one was capable of controlling that pure energy that an etcher possesses.

Rutherford had the same thought in his mind and the fear in his heart for the safety of his child increased.

The four young boys stared at the sight before their eyes with awe as this was a brand new experience for them.

"Precious"

"Fryght"

The two men whispered the names of their etchers and were sure that the beasts could hear their Master's voice.

Precious, Captain Desmo's etcher, was standing at the same back entrance of the St. Claire estate that they used each day.

Her Master had asked her to remain hidden here unless she was called for and now that she heard the voice of her master echoing in her ear, she did not hesitate to rush inside.

On the other hand, in a secluded part of the Mansion, another etcher was taking a peaceful nap when he heard the sound of his Master summoning him.

From the shadow that he had been resting in, Fryght, Rutherford's etcher opened his eyes which made his golden eyes reflect the dim light which had been entering the dark space.

His presence was needed and in the next second, those golden eyes vanished from the dark corner without a trace.

Rutherford and Desmo stood before the others present there as they shielded them from the energy being emitted from the horse who was rushing towards them.

This protective action of theirs made the others take a couple of steps away but their eyes were glued to the horse.

Howard, Taylor, Topher, and Damien watched the scene unfolding before their eyes with excitement as something amazing was taking place in their presence.

Howard had met an etcher for the first time in his life today but the same could not be said for the other three.

Though they did not have their own etcher, they had come in close contact with other people's etchers before.

Hence, they knew that the horse rushing towards them was one of the rare kinds of beasts which were named "Etchers".

The journey from the tree where they had found the handkerchief to the endpoint had been made in less than a minute.

The girl riding the horse had never ridden at such a high speed but there was not an ounce of fear on her face.

'A Little more!' The child urged as she could see how close they were to the finish line.

At the high speed they were moving, it would not take long for them to reach the group standing at a short distance.

Yvonne and Demon were moments away from reaching the endpoint which was Howard's position when something strange happened.

Out of nowhere two new beasts had emerged, blocking their path.

'The heck is wrong with them!?' The child's eyes widened as she scowled at this abrupt emergence of the two beasts.

Both of whom she knew very well and had met before.

The little girl was smart enough to realize that something was wrong for them to appear in such a sudden manner.

"Easy, boy!" She commanded her etcher whose speed instinctively slowed down.

The two men with their etchers stood between the approaching horse and the other group of people.

What was surprising to the Earl and Captain was not the fact that Demon was harnessing his powers but a whole other matter entirely.

A pure white horse and a silver hound stood their ground without fear as the black horse was now a few ten meters away from them.

According to the instructions they had received, the safety of the child and the people around them was their highest priority.

They were prepared to launch into action and subdue the horse which seemed out of control due to the power surges they could feel coming from it.

They had also experienced their first time harnessing their power and it was inevitable to lose control of yourself when you realize your true potential.

The two beasts' eyes narrowed as they waited for the huge beast to get closer before they could leap into action.

Unfortunately, they would never get the chance to fulfill the instructions they had obtained as Demon's eyes glinted in fierce wrath at their interruption.
