Chapter 112 - Like This!

Marquess Samed stared at her suspiciously after hearing the explanation she had given for knocking herself on her forehead so hard that she now had a bulge at that place.

He narrowed his eyes and continued staring at her without uttering a single word.

'Why does he look like he wants me to confess to my crimes? This is not an interrogation room from some crime sitcom.' She rolled her eyes and glared back at him.

There was no way that she would change her answer from what she had just given him.

'It is enough that I have to live with the shame of developing an ounce of pity for that man. There is no way that I will let someone in on that horrible secret!' She determined and kept her lips sealed.

Witnessing the adamant look on her face, Sullivan had surmised that he was not going to gain any information from the little child.

'She is more stubborn than what I had thought.' He reckoned and shook his head.

He then went back to his seat and did not bother to waste his time on something that would not yield him results at the moment.

'I am not going to give up!' He declared and then shot a furious gaze at this pupil of his.

Every day he was discovering something new about her and the more knowledge he gained about her, the more confused he became.

This enigma was something that he was sure to solve by whatever means necessary.

However, he was smart enough to know when to advance and when to retreat.

'Right now is the time for a strategic retreat to take a leap forward.' He remarked and then went back to his notes.

He decided to ignore her as he checked on the notes that he had just taken.

'I need to turn these notes into a detailed report and present it before the King by tomorrow morning.' He recalled the instructions given by His Majesty, King Ophire.

'Is he giving me the silent treatment?' Yvonne wondered as she stared at the man who refused to even look at her face.

The entire time that she stared at him, Marquess Samed kept his sight fixed on the piece of paper that held all the information he had obtained today.

While she was watching him make some changes to what he had written, the two people in the room heard thumping sounds which made them turn towards the door.

This was when they witnessed the old maid who was this child's nanny returning to the room with haste.

Just as fast as Mrs. Jacinth had fled from the room she had not barged inside with the same speed.

This time she had come back with a few things in her hand and she did not flinch before she knelt before her miss.

Yvonne's face was blank without any expression as she now gazed at the woman who was kneeling before her after everything that had happened just earlier today.

'Old habits die hard…' She made up an explanation for the maid's behavior.

Even if she was unhappy with this, there was nothing that she could do since the Marquess was still inside the room.

??Mrs. Jacinth will never sit on a chair in other people's presence.' She believed and let her be for now.

Mrs. Jacinth did not pay heed to the scowl that she had just been shot when she had knelt and continued doing what he had come here to do.

After she had rushed outside, the old nanny first headed to the kitchen and picked up some cold water, and soaked a clean cloth in it.

As she had rushed back with the bowl of cold water, a few drops had splashed onto her uniform but she did not bother about it.

Yvonne smiled when she noticed the cautious attitude with which the maid wrung the excess water from the cloth and pressed it on her forehead while gently applying pressure on it.

*Hiss*

The sharp hiss that the child had let out made the adults in the room to direct their concerned eyes towards her.

"I am alright! It does not hurt as much as it did." Yvonne waved her hand to dismiss their anxieties.

However, it looked as though none of them believed a word she had said.

Marquess Samed stared at her with contempt laced in his eyes while Mrs. Jacinth did the same but with worry and pain in her eyes.

Yvonne sighed when she saw their expressions which now made her feel bad for hurting herself.

'But that hit was necessary for my future mental health!' She defended her actions at the same time.

Having no other choice, she sat in silence as the maid repeated the steps of soaking the cloth in cold water and placing it on her forehead.

A few minutes of the same steps being done to her led the slight bump to diminish but the red mark remained at the same place.

"I apologize, Young Miss. I have failed to take good care of you! Master will never forgive me when he notices that you are injured!" Mrs. Jacinth lamented both for herself and her miss who was injured.

Marquess Samed scowled at the maid who was being dramatic but recalling how much the Earl doted on his daughter, he felt that her reaction wasn't excessive in the least bit.

"Then we just have to hide this from Papa's eyes." Yvonne's soft and energetic voice dragged the two adults from their panicking spirals.

They frowned as they glanced at her wondering what she meant by those words.

"Like this!" She exclaimed and raised her hands up to her head.

She fidgeted with her hair and in a few seconds, the pins holding her hair up were removed and her dark violet locks fell loosely over her shoulders.

She tousled her hair to the side and made it look presentable before picking up the same pins that had been holding her hair up.

She skillfully tied half her hair up in a top bun and this time she used those pins to secure a part of her hair at the front in such a way that they covered her entire forehead.

She turned to look at her reflection in the silver mirror and snickered when she discerned that this style looked better than the one that she had earlier on.

'This is what we called 'faux bangs' in my world.' She announced in her mind and smiled as she took in their surprised faces.
