An Luxia walked out of the restroom and sat down on the bed at night, opening her phone to scroll through some videos before going to bed.
However, she stopped at the lock screen and stared at the date on the screen. It was nearing November already. . . time really did fly.
Mo Siyan's words returned to her head as the phone closed by itself.
'Nine months after the first injection, Trap does it's magic. First, the victim will begin forgetting things and will slowly become crazy, and then one day, she will suddenly faint and then die in 12 hours.'
Nine months. . . The first injection according to Shen Liya was in February. Nine months would be in November. An Luxia tried to think back to exactly when in February Shen Liya had given her the milk tea, but she could not remember.
Eight months was not very long ago, but she could not seem to remember much from that month.
An Luxia felt a knot tie up in her chest and she put her phone away, climbing into the bed without scrolling through her phone anymore.
A while later, the door opened and Mo Han came in, joining her as the both of them fell asleep.
---
People always said that time flies when you are having fun, but it also flew when you were dreading something that was not fun. Before long, November had come already and although none of them knew the exact date of when the Trap would begin it's magic, they all silently knew that it was coming soon.
In Country A, an old man woke up and looked out the window at the bright sunlight shining into the room, almost as bright as the smile on his face as he turned around and looked at the small calendar on his nightstand.
He flipped the date from yesterday to the new one, admiring the numbers on the calendar as he licked his lips out of excitement.
"Time is up," he announced, an evil glisten flashing past his eyes as he sat up on the bed, excited about the next few days to come.
---
Several thousand miles away, An Luxia and Mo Han also woke up, not because it was getting late or of the sun shining into the room, but because of a phone call.
A frown appeared on An Luxia's face as she slowly blinked her eyes open, wondering who was calling at such an early time. The sun was not even up yet!
Mo Han rubbed his eyes and reached for his phone, looking at the unknown number on the screen frustratingly, "Hello?"
The voice on the other end immediately woke Mo Han up, "My son, I haven't wished you a happy November yet!"
Mo Han narrowed his eyes as he sat up on the bed, and An Luxia looked at him confusedly, unable to hear what was going on in the phone, "What do you want?"
"Nothing! I am just here to remind you that nine months is up, and it is time for the magic. The deal is still open, but I do not know for how much longer."
Then, Mo Siyan hung up the call, and Mo Han heard the beeping sound from the phone several times before he slammed it down onto the soft blanket.
"What happened?" An Luxia asked, although she could already guess who was on the other end of the phone. What else could make him so upset?
"Nothing -"
However, An Luxia immediately cut him off, "Don't worry about it," she said and Mo Han looked at her, trying to tell her that it wasn't about that, but he could see in her eyes that she knew.
"I'm fine," An Luxia said with a smile, stretching her arms out as if to show that she was completely fine. She did not want him to leave, and she knew that he also did not want to go back to his father, especially a father like that.
There was no way she would make him do it for her.
"We will find a way," she said with a cheerful smile, lifting the blanket up, "The sun is out today!"
She switched the topic as she got out of bed and entered the restroom, and Mo Han watched her for a while before following her into the restroom.
However, there seemed to be no way. Aside from Qi Yu, Mo Han also found a whole group of the best doctors in the world from all over the world, meeting with them twice a day to see if they could figure something out. There was also a group of scientists and even a group of detectives, for what reason, An Luxia did not know.
However, even with all of these experts, no one seemed to be able to figure out a single thing about the Trap, not even about how it was made, so even less so of the cure.
An Luxia saw the doctors seated in the living room as she left for school, and she told Mo Han that he did not have to go with her, so he stayed with the doctors, who were discussing amongst themselves in the room.
An Luxia placed the house keys into her right pants pocket and told Mo Han that he did not have to come and pick her up as well since she only had one class.
She arrived at school and quickly went through the one class she had, not able to focus and not taking in anything the professor said during the class. She entered the car and the driver drove back home. She closed her eyes on the car, thinking about endless things.
Maybe she should tell her family. . . Not yet. Nothing was happening yet. It would be such suffering if they had to await her death. And perhaps. . . Just maybe, what if it was all a lie? Maybe it was just a trick by Mo Siyan to get Mo Han to go with him.
Maybe there was nothing wrong with her. . . Of course, this was all just An Luxia's hopeful dream.
They slowly climbed up the mountain and finally stopped in front of the house. The driver went to park the car and An Luxia walked to the door, reaching into her bag for the house keys. However, she could not find them.
"Where did I put them?" She mumbled, flipping through all the bag pockets and then reaching into her pockets, finally finding them in her pant pocket. She looked at it and the memory of her putting them into the pocket from the morning suddenly returned.
She furrowed her eyebrows together, an ominous feeling rising inside of her. It's nothing, she comforted herself, and opened the door, walking into the house.
The group of doctors and scientists had gone, and Mo Han was waiting for her in the dining room with a table of warm food.
"I'm so hungry," she said, sitting down at the table.
"Go wash your hands and then come eat," Mo Han said as he took her bag from her, placing it onto the other table.
An Luxia quickly ran to go wash her hands and then came back, starting to eat. However, before she had even taken over three bites, she suddenly looked up as if she had suddenly remembered something and jumped up from the chair.
"I forgot to wash my hands," she exclaimed, putting down the chopsticks and turning around to go wash them, "Why didn't you remind me?"
As she disappeared into the restroom once again, Mo Han's hands froze as he looked at her dazed.
'First, the victim will begin forgetting things. . .' The words replayed inside Mo Han's mind until An Luxia walked back, sitting down on the chair again.
"What's wrong? It's okay, it's just one time."
Mo Han broke out of his stupor and looked at her, his frown deepening, "Luxia, did you forget? You just went to wash your hands a while ago. I did remind you."
An Luxia froze and looked up, thinking back hard and it took a while before she suddenly remembered and her eyes widened, "I -"
She also seemed to notice what was wrong and her lips twitched before she chuckled awkwardly, looking down to eat, "Don't worry. I forget things all the time! Ah, I am really getting old."
Mo Han did not say anything and stared at her for a long time before she finally said, "Eat! The food is getting cold."
Then, he slowly began eating again.
---
In the next few days, An Luxia seemed to forget things very often. Although she said it was normal, they both knew that it was obviously not normal.
She forgot simple things, like uploading a second chapter even though she had uploaded one already, or going to wash her face several times. It was the type of thing that normal people would not forget.
When the doctors heard about it, they had come up with one conclusion. The symptom was very similar to Alzheimer's Disease, but the Trap had nothing to do with it.
One thing was for certain: the Trap had indeed begun.
