Looking at her behaving like this, Lord Tang was getting a headache. He was definitely only looking down on her and why would he? "Esma, I am not looking down on you and neither do I have time to do so." He rubbed his brows in exasperation before continuing. " But let me tell you, the people you're wanting to kill with your hands are not ordinary people. Do you know how many billion dollars they are worth? The dangerous organizations failed to kill them and you think you can do it single-handedly?"
Lord Tang was not wrong either. It was a lawful country where they were living. Killing the members of families like Xins and Longs was no child play. It was not like they could go and hire mercenaries to get rid of them. They were the people who consisted of the top members of the food chain. With a single flick, they could end millions of lives, and here she was obsessing about killing them.
Esma's eyes widened slightly as the realization finally dawned upon her but like always she refused to acknowledge it.
"Why are you protecting them, Lord Tang? What relations do you have with the Long family that you have been protecting them from the sidelines?" Esma pointed her fingers at him and raised the questions she had no right to in the first place but for Long Jie's sake, he refrained himself from cutting off her pointed fingers. Behind him, Feng Siyan was barely holding himself as she started allegations after allegations on his master. " Ah-Jie might be the puppet who dances on your strings but I am not him. You have been manipulating him for years and… Lord... he worships you like you're his God." She paused and looked at him with naked hatred. "Don't you fear that he will hate you once he sees your real colors?"
"I have been manipulating him?" Lord Tang let out a snicker.
"Aren't you?" Esma retorted.
"So what if I am. It's none of your business." Lord Tang didn't deny it. She was a crazy woman and there was no reason in trying to make her understand the mighty discovery of logic and rationale.
The luxury was for sane people and she herself admitted that she was not one.
"I won't let you. He is my family and I won't let anyone hurt him ever." Esma claimed.
Bravo. Esma, bravo. How nice of her to finally admit Long Jie was her family when she was hellbent on destroying his.
"Are you sure, Esma?" Lord Tang asked her, his chin still resting on his fist in a regal pose. " Because as far as I can see, you are the reason for the majority of his problems. His problem with his family is nothing big but you're fanning it. He had been maintaining a distance from them for your sake but you are never satisfied and now that he has gotten married you are on the edge since that day." He glanced at her and said in a mocking tone "Don't you fear that he will hate you once he realizes how selfish and mean-spirited you are!"
Lord Tang had expected her to kick and curse but she actually surprised him by taking the taunts very lightly.
"I'm still better than you."
Lord Tang smirked. "Of course Esma. Whatever you say."
He didn't care what she or any other people thought it said about him. It never affected what names they called him. He was his own critic and their criticism meant nothing to him.
Esma could call him manipulator, shrewd, or whatever! He admitted that he was all those things. What was she gonna do about it? Could she even touch a strand of his hair? No, she couldn't. So, she didn't matter to him at all and neither did her lousy thoughts about him.
"But remember one thing, the road you're walking on, it will lead you to your own destruction." Lord Tang didn't hold himself back. He was imparting the biggest lesson of her life and it was up to her if she wanted to take it or not. "Esma, the fire of vengeance you have set in your heart will pull you in its blazing flames and you won't be left unscathed. Did a grave for yourself too before leaving for this journey of vengeance you have been obsessing over all your life. Trust me, you will need it."
"Thank you for your kind words, Lord Tang," Esma said and bowed in gratitude. "I must leave this place now. Heard I am leaving this glorious prison today?"
Though her words were dripping with honey, they still were as sharp as any knife. Sarcasm was a part of her and no matter what she couldn't abandon it. And with Lord Tang, it was all so natural to her.
"Ah-Siyan, take my little prisoner to wherever she wants to go and do not leave her side for a master!"
The message was clear in Lord Tang's voice. She could leave his place but not his surveillance and what was a better pair of eyes than Feng Siyan? He was a man who was completely immune to her art of seduction and Lord knew how much it infuriated her.
"Master--"
Before Feng Siyan could utter a word, Lord Tang's sharp and chilling voice made him swallow his words back from wherever they came out.
"You heard me!" It meant he had to go and there was no second thought to it.
"Yes, master!" Feng Siyan had no option but to oblige.
"Ah, another obedient dog, I see." Esma glanced at Feng Siyan and wrinkled her nose in disdain.
She hated both of them. And if she could, she would do the greatest owner to this great Earth by getting rid of both of them.
But only if she could do such a thing.
