"Master Xin called to ask you to join him for the lunch tomorrow." Gu Tian said after some time.
Again? Long Jie's brow furrowed. It was the third time in the week. He had to admit his father-in-law was an interesting company and he quite liked the time he spent with him. What Long Jie found strange was that not even once he asked him how his relationship was going with his daughter.
Of course, Zhenyi was not aware of their little lunch meetings. And if she was…
" Well… he kind of asked for an appointment for lunch." Gu Tian added after a pause.
Appointment? Long Jie looked at Gu Tian through the rear mirror, his eyes narrowing in skepticism.
As if reading his mind Gu Tian replied," He said he doesn't want to break rules."
Long Jie chuckled bitterly. "Indeed."
This had to be the joke of the century. Since when had any of the Xins abide by the rules and the laws.
But Long Jie understood what Xin Yichen hinted. He was citing as to what he was doing when his daughter was alone battling with Du Zheng. Not like his wife needed his help but it didn't mean he wouldn't be there supporting her and standing by her side.
And the answer to the question -- why he didn't offer his help was simply because he trusted his wife's capability enough to let her handle everything. Also, he wanted her to realize that he considered her his equal not less, but it also didn't mean that he would let her fight every battle of hers alone. She was his significant other and her battles were his, her struggles were his and her issues were his in the same way she was his and he was hers, only he had to remind her this, and very soon she'd be reminiscing this ultimate truth.
Moreover, she didn't need any man to provide her protection. Accompany? Surely.
She was more unpredictable and hazardous than any many he'd ever stood against. And he was so proud of her.
"Inform him that I and Zhenyi will be joining him for the dinner," Long Jie said instead.
She wouldn't say no. Would she? She loved his Bà. Perhaps, for him, she wouldn't refuse his company like she'd been these days and it so painfully hurt.
Gu Tian checked his schedule again and after noticing that there was something engaging that his master would like to know, he said," Mr. Du sent the invitation for the charity gala his family is hosting a few days from now for the cancer society. He expressed his wish that you and your wife attend the gala."
As Chen Yuling said the people were indeed curious as to know which fortunate was blessed by Almighty God to marry this man and Du Zheng took advantage of the moment to invite Long Jie and his wife for a Charity Gala his family would be hosting for they host every year.
He must have thought that by inviting Long Jie, he would declare to the world that Longs were with Dus against the Xins. And it was not a hidden truth in the whole of the country that both Xins and Longs were the national rivals.
Long Jie pondered for a moment before replying. Attending the Gala meant spending time with his wife, and spending time with his wife meant he had more chances to rectify his wrongdoings, and rectifying his wrongdoings meant convincing Zhenyi to give him one last chance.
And this last chance was the only thing he ever needed, more than any wealth or power available in the world. Except if that power could allow him to travel into the past.
"Interesting. Then I must attend the gala with my wife," Long Jie murmured.
"Anything else I should know about?" He further asked.
Gu Tian nodded and like a good snitch he was. Correction—assistant – he was, he snitched. Again correction – reported. "Well, your mother has been spotted dining with Miss Chen." He then paused and made a sound in his throat which evidently showed Long Jie that whoever he was gonna talk about, he was not a big fan of him/her. "It seems suspicious given Miss Chen's history and objectives."
"Yesterday?" Long Jie asked, ignoring his last comment.
"Yes, Master." Gu Tian pursed his lips.
"Along with Liu Shishi?"
"Surprisingly, No Master."
"Inform my father what his wife is up to. Make sure she doesn't trouble my wife with all her little schemes."Long Jie said as he stroked his forehead in headache.
His mother would not learn the lesson ever. Would she? Last he heard, his father had grounded her and also freeze her cards but he was still oblivious to the reason behind such a good deed. Then again, people say never ask for the reason behind the good deeds.
He still couldn't understand what her mother liked in Chen Yuling. Hasn't she noticed that she was already feeding a snake and now her eyes were on Chen Yuling? At least his Zhenyi was straightforward and blunt. Well, not entirely… Heck who cared, as long as she was his, he could have her in either way and form.
"What about Chen Yuling, Master?" Gu Tian immediately asked.
Long Jie chuckled and shook his head. "Not a big fan of Chen Yuling, eh?"
"She harbors hidden motives against you, Master. She may look a kind lady but she's not a very trusted acquaintance." Gu Tian said in a complaining tone.
"You should be my wife's assistant, Gu Tian. Your thoughts matched hers perfectly," Long Jie answered him with another amusing chuckle.
