Although Aion used all his coins again to increase his magic, he had to stop a few times along the way to kill some earthworms and level up. His speed had decreased with the power-up. Nothing in the world comes for free, after all.
Still, despite the pauses, Aion reached his destination in the middle of the afternoon. Still, he frowned since he didn't see any enemies waiting for him outside the city, and he, and he didn't see soldiers in the walls either…
When he landed on the walls, Aion stopped and looked around, but he didn't find anyone around the city. While his tracking skills were subpar, he still could feel a presence inside the houses… weird presences, in fact, since they had too much mana with them.
"I really don't like this… who could have thought that dealing with the enemies in a single country would be this tiresome," Aion thought and then sighed.
In any case, Aion landed on the streets and then tried to lure the enemies. He could tell that the whole population there was going to attack him, and if they all had been brainwashed, then it couldn't be helped. Still, they didn't come.
Aion furrowed his eyebrows and then took his relics out of his inventory. Perhaps he should get rid of the brainwashing first, but much to his surprise, the relics only pointed to a single place in the middle of the city.
While Aion was frowning, several walls in the houses nearby broke, and then numerous magic projectiles flew toward him. Ice spears, fire spears, wind spears, and Earth spears… powerful enough to break houses apart.
Aion used Force Release, and then his speed increased, and he dodged all the attacks while looking at the enemies. They were normal people wearing normal civilian clothes of civilians, but he could see their eyes emitting a blue glow.
"This magic power and presence… it makes me recall Mom," Aion furrowed his eyebrows.
One didn't have to be a genius to understand that the ghosts of the Mirellis kingdom had taken over the bodies of those people. Aion wondered if it was something that they did by themselves or if someone controlled them. Either way, if that was a plan to make him feel conflicted. It was a waste of time since he could just fly and avoid them… and so he did it.
"Hmm?" Aion frowned when he felt some presence nearby when he began to fly.
Aion turned around only to see the people flying as well, using wind magic, earth platforms, and even firing fire through their legs… the ghosts could use their powers rather well, even in bodies that didn't belong to them.
Aion wondered what he should do… as usual, things smelled too fishy since it wasn't like he couldn't kill them. At first, he decided to ignore them. Still, when Zaion found his destination… he felt a large concentration of mana ahead, to the pool that he could clearly see a magic barrier. Aion could also sense the mana flowing from many points in the city and being absorbed by the barrier to keep it standing.
"The enemy is also using their mana to keep that barrier up… at least this confirms that the right-hand man of the perpetrator is here," Aion thought while he was going downward to check the barrier. "It isn't like the barrier the grandma shrimp made… it only has power and no talent involved when this was created."
The number of enemies following him was increasing, so Aion had to make up his mind quickly. Killing them was what the enemy wanted him to do for some reason. Still, it was probably different than before since the spirits of the Milleris kingdom were involved in it.
"I suppose it can't be helped… even if they are somewhat innocent, the people of this kingdom are also to be blamed for all this mess," Aion thought when he landed nearby and chose a target. "Letting people like this control your country… stupidity needs to become a crime, I guess."
You obtained 1000 experience points.
Aion fired an ice spear, imagining that the target would have high magic resistance. The Target had been a soldier wearing full plate armor and a thick helmet, but that didn't protect him against the attack. Still, something off happened… a blue sphere flew from the body toward Aion, and when he attacked, his projectile just passed through it.
"I don't like this…" Aion thought and then began to fly away.
Unfortunately, the sphere kept chasing Aion and gaining speed until it inevitably reached and entered his body. At first, Aion just felt a shiver across his entire body, but nothing else happened.
"This can't be good… I don't know what will happen, but I can't let them keep entering my body," Aion furrowed his eyebrows while facing the barrier. "Even if it is inefficient, I should be able to cause more damage than this thing can recover mana if I use the necromancer or Demonic Berserker class."
Aion prepared to change his class, but then a light began to glow in the middle of the barrier and at the top of the mansion until it was impossible to see things inside. In the next moment, a person appeared there… it was a dark-haired woman wearing a set of light leather armor. She had a lot of knives around her body, so she really looked like a criminal.
The black-haired woman began to fly while her arms were resting on her back. It felt like she was using Telekinesis or something similar since her movements were fluid. Way too fluid… in any case, she approached and revealed to be quite the pretty lady in her twenties. Not too slim or too thick, but that wasn't important… there was no blue glow in her eyes, but there was something wrong with them… they looked dead.
"Hello, Aion Kresnik," The woman said. "It is an honor to meet you finally."
