Although the carapace was hard, the creature wasn't able to do much when Aion used lightning magic on his spear and then thrust toward it with all his might. Thanks to the fight against Kala, Aion decided to test that. He had used something like that against Urgen, but he forgot to train it. That was becoming a normal occurence.
"I guess I need to practice more… the piercing power increased, but the energy passed through the weapon and shocked me," Aion thought. "This can be rather troublesome in the middle of a battle, but it is something unexpected since I haven't been training that much if compared to my early years."
"Do you want some tips on how to control your magic when it isn't in its purest form?" Sauros asked.
"Come to think of it, you guys make your weapons using a similar method, don't you?" Aion asked. "I will eventually find the right way, but if you want me to save time, I will be thankful."
"You already visualize your mana when giving shape to the spell. Instead of keeping feeding the spell, send as much energy as you want and then choose the element that you want before cutting the connection," Sauros explained.
Aion didn't get his explanation, but he tried to split that nonsense into several steps. First of all, select the amount of mana that he wants to use. After that, send it to where he wants to send the energy, and then turn some of the mana into the element, then use the remaining to fuel the spell before cutting the connection between his mana and the spell. Basically, it was like turning anything into a magic torch… and Aion's mana would be the fuel. Since the mana will be used like that, the weapon won't be damaged, and the effects won't spread.
It wasn't perfect, but After a while, Aion managed to show some progress. He also tried to fire a slash of electricity toward a tree, but he didn't obtain many results… It seemed that he had to watch Urgen a bit more.
"This is enough training for now, and we shouldn't attract any more attention as we progress to the port city," Aion said.
In the end, they had to walk for two hours before they reached the port city. Although the place didn't have walls, it had many watchtowers. Since they came using a road and they were disguised, they didn't attract any attention. Even though Aion had the headband on his eyes… even though it was dinner time, the streets of the city were filled with people. They had some trees that had some yellow crystals that illuminated the area quite a bit. Thanks to that, a lot of businesses worked even late at night.
"We are here to get some of those stones," Sauros explained. "They are gems that adventurers get from a dungeon of bats, and they keep emanating light for three months. We will use them to illuminate the area underwater."
"There are people nearby, and you shouldn't say that so easily and out loud," Seris said.
Due to the location and the weather, the inhabitants of the island had mostly tanned skin and walked around in light clothes. They also seemed pretty easygoing, and they didn't pay attention to a weird group like Aion's. Most of the buildings were made using bricks and wood, and some other materials found on the island… Aion always thought that people would have a hard time during storms with houses like that, but it didn't seem like that part of the world often suffers from storms or tornadoes.
In any case, they headed to one of the shops in the city that still was working at night. Aion had seen some shops that specialized in selling monster materials, but he didn't see one that had the gems with other things being used in many ways. Being attached to helmets, spears, bows, and even armor.
Since Aion was acting like a blind man, he couldn't look around much, and Sauros was talking with the seller. For the first time in that world, he noticed that all people of that world used the same tongue, and that seemed pretty weird…
"You look restless," Seris said.
"I am just lost in thought," Aion said.
Aion had planned to travel the world to give his mother a chance to move away from people that knew the past of her family. Still, he also wanted to do that for himself, to have fun and try to learn why he had that power. He knew that a lot of things happen by coincidence, but too many things in his life followed that… his origin, his last, his powers… that made him uneasy.
"I guess even a kiddo like you can stop acting silly and think seriously about things," Seris said.
Aion felt like sighing since it was a bit troublesome to be treated like that for someone who was younger than him, at least when it came to mental age and experience.
In any case, Sauros acted like a traveling merchant and bought the yellow stones in their raw form. It would be a bit troublesome, but they will have to adapt those to their use later. Once they bought a few of those, they looked for an inn, they had to walk for a while since they had many, but most of them were completely packed… those islands received a lot of visitors.
Once they found one in which they could rent an entire room for them, the group relaxed a little, but Aion kept his guard up. It is in those moments that things usually happen and cause problems. However, nothing happened during their stay on that island… Around noon of the next day, they left and took their time heading to the place they were supposed to meet. The breeze of the sea at night…
Things only started to get serious when they approached the second island…
