589 Not her Lexi.
"I am not. I'm just saying, Miss Yang is stunning — that's a compliment." Feigning innocent, the man named Zack shrugged his shoulders as a smug grin plastered across his lips.
"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Lee." Smiling back, Lexi took his 'compliment' as it was.
If this was before, Lexi would have slammed him down with words in disgust. However, she had grown and matured. Things like this, she would only need to pretend she has no clue and take it at face value.
After all, the man didn't touch her or said anything malicious. Therefore, Lexi didn't need to make it a big deal.
"Sis, don't believe him." Casting Zack Lee a disdainful gaze, Diane Huang whispered to Lexi. Yet, her voice was audible enough for the circle of men to hear.
"Anyway, pleased to meet you, Miss Yang." Ignoring Diane Huang, Zack Lee beamed Lexi a gentle smile which Lexi returned with a meek smile.
Just then, Benjamin Shao's voice assailed their ears from the side. "I didn't expect that Miss Yang will be here tonight." Catching the group's attention, Benjamin Shao approached them.
As usual, he was dashing with that towering height and great body build — truly, a ladies' man.
"Happy birthday, Miss Huang." Turning to Diane Huang, Benjamin Shao courtly greeted.
"Thank you, Brother Min." Diane Huang smiled sweetly, she gave a different vibe unlike earlier. By the looks of it, Diane Huang seemed to be more girly when Benjamin Shao arrived.
Of course, Lexi noticed the change of her behavior. But, she chose not to probe about it as she didn't want to assume things. After all, Diane Huang was Aubrey Ning's friend.
Their last encounter, Diane Huang and Aubrey Ning seemed to be great friends. Therefore, concluding things the way she sees it might only lead her to misunderstand things.
"Mr. Zack, Miss Yang wouldn't mind your compliment and take it as face value but," Smiling as usual, Benjamin Shao paused as he slowly shifted his gaze to Zack Lee's bewitching visage. "But someone else will." He added.
"I heard Miss Yang's rumored boyfriend was Mr. Lu." One man around their circle chimed in. "Was he the one you're pertaining, Mr. Shao?" The man added before taking a sip from his wine.
"Well," Benjamin Shao turned to Lexi as he raised his brows and gave her a knowing look.
"I don't think a compliment will offend Ethan." Lexi understood Benjamin Shao's intention.
He was probably curious about the scandal Ethan Lu, and Laurel Wang was involved. How clever of him to indirectly probe while not showing his interest about it.
"Oh my," Pleased at Lexi's quick and clever response, keeping things private by not sounding rude. Therefore, Zack's interest towards Lexi raised a little. "I heard Mr. Lu and Miss Wang were an item." he said with a grin.
"Zack, behave. Miss Yang is my friend you can't prey. Also, are you not aware that Mr. Lu already gave his statement?" Arching her brows, Diane Huang jerked her chin slightly forward, as she warned the man.
Zack Lee's behavior displeased her. If Diane Huang didn't know him better, she would think that he liked Lexi. However, the said man was a notorious womanizer. Therefore, Diane Huang was certain that he just wanted Lexi to warm his bed for tonight.
Well, with the man's status and looks, it would be possible if he hit on another lady. However, not her Lexi.
"Then, what am I seeing?" Raising his brows, Zack Lee thrusted his chin towards a certain direction. His gesture, of course, made the group — including Lexi to turn their gaze towards the direction he pointed at.
Lexi's eyes searched for a second. The next moment, her gaze caught Laurel Wang's figure walking out of the hall. The person next to her, Lexi knitted her brows in confusion.
"Isn't that Mr. Lu?" Furrowing his brows, Benjamin Shao cast Lexi a side glance. His eyes glinted with interest as this party would be interesting than he thought it would.
Lexi, Laurel Wang, and Ethan Lu in the same event? Benjamin Shao was now intrigued of the outcome of tonight's party.
"No?" As Lexi followed the two figures until they left the hall, she answered.
"Huh," Meanwhile, Zack Lee watched Lexi's disbelief side profile in amusement. 'Poor, Lexi Yang...' he muttered internally.
To him, he wouldn't be surprised if Ethan Lu cheated on Lexi publicly. After all, the said man was powerful enough to get whatever he wanted.
So, why would Ethan Lu tie himself down with just one woman if he could have a taste whoever he liked?
Not to mention, Ethan Lu's relationship history. Although Ethan Lu has been inactive for quite some time now, Zack Lee was certain that Ethan Lu's thing with Lexi would eventually lose it effect.
"Maybe, Miss Yang was correct. Maybe we saw wrong." Zack Lee magnanimously backed Lexi's denial. Alas, his tone sounded otherwise.
Lexi was about to rebut, however, she smiled and kept cool. Zack Lee was unworthy of her energy as he's an assh*le. She wouldn't stoop to his level — never.
Diane Huang studied Lexi's expression for a while. Seeing that she was not letting herself get affected by Zack Lee's obvious remarks, Diane Huang was pleased.
Considering the Lee Family's status, and Zack Lee's own achievements as an individual businessman, Lexi wouldn't stand a chance if she offended the man. Diane Huang didn't believe the rumors, the reason she invited Laurel Wang in her party to show everyone including the said woman that Lexi and Ethan Lu were unbreakable.
However, the sight of the two earlier, Diane Huang was certain that it was Ethan Lu who was with Laurel Wang. Regardless of what important matter they needed to discuss, Diane Huang was displeased that other people needed to see them together.
"Zack, stop this now. If you're interested in Miss Yang, why don't you ask her?" Diane Huang's smile slowly faded away from her lips as her eyes sharpened. "Why? Are you afraid your charms wouldn't work on her?" Diane Huang bluntly added.
Since Lexi was her guest, and she personally invited her, Diane Huang obliged herself to protect her precious Lexi.
