230 Strangeness

“You’re thinking too much,” Jing Yan looked down at her helplessly. “Can we go down and eat first? Grandpa has been waiting for us for a long time.”

“Alright, I’m overthinking it.” He Miao’s heart burned with anger for no reason. She glared at Jing Yan, then walked down the stairs without looking back.

In the dining room, Old Master Jing saw that the atmosphere between the two of them was obviously not right and guessed the reason for their argument. He put some food in He Miao’s bowl. “What fragrances did Miaomiao make today? Are you tired after a busy morning? Why don’t you take some time to rest?”

“I’m fine, Grandpa. I used to work until very late in the lab at school. I’m used to it.” He Miao barely managed to maintain a sweet smile, not wanting the old man to worry about them.

Old Master Jing shot Jing Yan a look and could not help but reprimand him. “That’s where you’re wrong. Miaomiao is so busy. As her boyfriend, you don’t have any work on hand. Of course, you should accompany Miaomiao and do something within your power for her.”

“I will.” Jing Yan lowered his eyes and scooped a bowl of He Miao’s favorite soup, then continued to eat the dishes in his bowl.

He did not want to fight with He Miao like this, but he had thought about it the entire night. When he thought about how he could not help but do things that only Onion would do to He Miao when he was with her recently, he felt remorseful.

If it was not for the fact that he did not control himself when he was with He Miao, He Miao would not have suspected his relationship with Onion so quickly.

The only thing he could do was to minimize physical contact with He Miao, afraid that he would do anything that would make her suspicious. If He Miao really found out the truth, he would not be able to explain himself.

He Miao shook her head gently. “No need, Grandpa. I can handle it on my own. Jing Yan has his own things to do, so there’s no need to trouble him.”

Her words were mixed with a lot of personal emotions. Grandpa Jing could hear it, and so could Jing Yan. However, he could only smile bitterly in his heart, unable to explain his difficulties to her.

Seeing his grandson’s expression, Old Master Jing knew that the conflict between the two probably had something to do with what Jing Yan had deliberately hidden last night. He had no choice but to be the mediator. “Miaomiao, there’s something I shouldn’t say, because once I do, I’ll be suspected of being biased toward Jing Yan. But I want you to understand that grandpa’s heart is on your side. Even if you and Jing Yan don’t end up together, you’ll always be my most precious granddaughter in my heart.”

“I know.” He Miao lowered her head slightly and held back the tears of grievance in his eyes. “Grandpa, just say what you want to say. I know you’re doing this for my own good. I won’t think too much about it.”

“That’s good.” Old Master Jing patted the back of her hand with a smile. “I’ve watched Jing Yan grow up, and I know him the best. Once he has set his mind on someone or something, he will never let go even if he’s covered in wounds. Although Grandpa is old, I can still see that he loves you very much. You have to believe that everything he does is for your own good, just like Grandpa.”

He Miao lifted her eyes and glanced at Jing Yan, sighing. “Grandpa, I know what you’re saying. I’m just angry that he’s hiding something from me.”

Jing Yan could no longer be a silent backdrop, so he grabbed He Miao’s hand and said, “I promise you, this is the only time, okay? You will understand in the future. Other than this, I will not hide anything from you.”

Seeing how anxious he was, He Miao jumped in shock, and the strange feeling lingered in her heart again.

She tried to hold Jing Yan’s hand back while she slowly raised her other hand. The moment her hand was about to touch Jing Yan’s head, Jing Yan reacted quickly and dodged. Then he realized that he had lost his composure, and he adjusted his seat in a daze.

He Miao laughed coldly. She put down her cutleries and suddenly lost her appetite. “I’m full. I’m going back to my room to rest.”

“Miaomiao!” Jing Yan stood up and chased after her. He Miao deliberately ran back to her room to avoid being caught. She slammed the door shut and locked it from the inside. She stared at Onion and slowly hugged the dog.

Outside the door, Jing Yan was almost hit by the door. After barely avoiding it, he raised his hand and gently knocked on the door, calling out in a low voice, “Miaomiao, I’m sorry. Don’t be angry. Can you come out first?”

“I’m going to sleep, you can go.” He Miao sat on the bed with Onion in her arms, holding its head to observe its eyes.

Little Onion did not know what his master was going to do. He wriggled his head and struggled out of her hands, jumping up and licking her ears.

He Miao spent a lot of effort to calm it down. She brought a ham sausage to its mouth. “Eat.”

The moment she took out the sausage, Onion’s tail wagged from side to side. He took a big bite of the sausage and ate it happily.
