3500 Too Honest
Wei Zhiqian wanted to curse at him. “Oh, is that so? I didn’t see that. I’ll go look at the group chat.”
It was only then that Wei Zhiqian looked at the 8864 chat group again.
He found that the chat was as lively as before.
Xie Jiling’s appearance successfully redirected the group’s attention away from Wei Wucai’s successful marriage proposal back to Han Zhuofeng no longer being single.
Wei Zhiqian had met Xie Jiling before, and he said, “When I get back from my work trip, and you’re done filming, let’s have a get-together. It has been a really long time since we had one.”
Everyone was busy, and it was hard to find a time to meet up.
Someone would have something scheduled on one day, and someone else would have something on the next.
Their limited availability meant there were minimal possibilities for when they could have a get-together.
They had very few opportunities to meet up now, unlike when they were still single.
Wei Zhiqian missed those times quite a lot.
“Sounds good,” Han Zhuofeng said hurriedly. “I’ll bring Jiling along and let her get to know all of you. After all, she’ll be one of us in the future.”
Wei Zhiqian then said, “That was my intention.”
Finally, Han Zhuofeng needed to leave to resume filming, so he went offline.
This was when Xie Jiling remembered she had yet to reply to Han Zhuofeng’s question.
It didn’t matter to her if he was offline, though.
After all, he would still be able to see her reply once he had the time.
Additionally, Xie Jiling wasn’t waiting anxiously to get a response from him anyway.
Xie Jiling sent him a reply: “Today, I have a class in the morning and another session in the afternoon until 3 p.m. Tomorrow, it’s an afternoon class at 3:10 p.m.”
Once she was done replying, Xie Jiling no longer bothered about it.
She glanced at the time. Unbeknownst to her, a lot of time had passed by while she was chatting with the others earlier.
Xie Jiling rushed to wash up and pack her things. Then, she left the bedroom.
When she arrived downstairs, she saw that both Old Mr. Han and Old Mrs. Han were present. Xie Jiling greeted them shyly, “Grandpa, Grandma.”
“Morning, Jiling.” Right now, Old Mrs. Han was gazing at Xie Jiling like the latter was her granddaughter-in-law. The more she looked at Xie Jiling, the more pleased she felt.
“Did you sleep well last night?” Old Mrs. Han asked deliberately, even though she already knew the answer to the question.
She was fully aware that Xie Jiling had spent the night thinking about Han Zhuofeng’s question and slept very late.
Xie Jiling thought about it for a moment before saying, “The quality of sleep was decent.”
She had gone to sleep rather late, but at the actual time that she fell asleep, she had only closed her eyes for a little while before falling asleep.
“You should go eat now. We’ve already eaten,” Old Mrs. Han said hurriedly.
Auntie Sun then said, “I’ll go reheat the congee. It’ll be done pronto. Just wait for two minutes.”
The deep-fried breadsticks were the premade kind. They were bought from a supermarket and then fried at home.
Although the flavor of the breadsticks was not as good as those from breakfast vendor stands, these breadsticks had the advantage of being healthier.
After all, the oil used was the good oil they had at home.
Auntie Sun brought out two deep-fried breadsticks she had already fried.
The breadsticks weren’t long. They were the kind of breadstick that was short and fat.
Inside the steamer basket, there were also buns that were steamed this morning.
Auntie Sun had split the buns into two batches just so Xie Jiling could eat them fresh and hot.
The first time, she steamed two batches for the two elders.
The second time, she steamed a batch for Xie Jiling in advance at around the time the latter woke up.
So the buns were still burning hot right now.
After that, she placed a plate of just-tossed salad on the table.
Xie Jiling’s accommodation was a boarding house in her school, and there was a great variety of breakfast foods at the school canteen.
However, food cooked for the masses was definitely not as good as food cooked specially for a person.
In particular, the school’s congee always seemed to be missing something; it wasn’t good.
Additionally, the standard of the buns and the meat pies were limited by the cooking skills of the middle-aged women working at the school canteen. Nevertheless, the students ate them anyway.
The food definitely wasn’t all that delicious.
It was completely unlike the buns that Auntie Sun made. The dumplings had soft and supple skin; it was clear they were delicious just from the way they looked.
“These buns I made are leavened-dough buns. They’re not the soup dumplings. If you like the soup dumplings, I will make them for you next time,” Auntie Sun said.
“I like both.” Xie Jiling started salivating involuntarily.
She was clearly super hungry.
This made Auntie Sun very happy.
“All right, I’ll stop disturbing you. Eat quickly while the food’s hot,” Auntie Sun said with a smile.
Xie Jiling ate a mouthful of congee first. The congee was just ordinary plain white congee.
Yet it had the aroma of bone broth.
It was like the congee was cooked with bone broth instead of water.
The aroma of the bone broth had completely seeped into the rice.
The rice had been simmered until the grains fluffed up so much they became soft and sticky.
Then Xie Jiling picked up a steamed bun with her chopsticks. The bun was small and cute, just the right size to eat in one bite.
However, it was still too hot. So she didn’t dare to stuff the whole thing into her mouth.
Instead, she carefully bit off half the bun.
The bun bread was exactly as she imagined—soft and delicious.
The pork and leek filling was mixed with minced corn kernels.
The broth from the filling spilled out towards the bun bread and seeped into half of it, turning the soaking it with the flavor of the broth.
Once Xie Jiling was done eating the bun, she shifted her attention to the freshly fried breadsticks.
She bit into one. It was so crispy that she could hear it crack underneath her teeth.
Xie Jiling loved eating the puffy parts of deep-fried breadsticks the most. They were very thin and crispy.
She then hurriedly stuffed some salad into her mouth to offset the greasiness.
This breakfast seemed like it was a meal for a god.
“Delicious!” Xie Jiling normally couldn’t eat much for breakfast.
However, the food was truly too amazing that she ate a lot without realizing it.
She ate everything Auntie Sun had prepared for her.
Auntie Sun was elated. “I learned how to cook these from Young Master Zhao Gushen’s friend. As expected, the result is wonderful because I followed her instructions.”
Auntie Sun was talking about the famous food blogger, Fei Xiaomo.
After learning from Fei Xiaomo once, Auntie Sin would seek out Fei Xiaomo to learn some new things from time to time.
Old Mr. Han and Old Mrs. Han were kept very well fed.
“Jiling, are you full? Was it enough food? There’s still more food if it’s not enough.” Old Mrs. Han came over to see. She let out a surprised laugh when she found that Xie Jiling had eaten all of the food.
The plates on the dining table were completely empty.
Old Mrs. Han really liked young people with great appetites.
She felt very blessed whenever she watched them eat a lot of food with relish.
After all, it was a blessing to have food to eat!
“I’m full.” Xie Jiling rubbed her stomach and realized that she had eaten too much.
She had filled her stomach right to the brim.
She suddenly felt very embarrassed.
“Are you truly full?” Old Mrs. Han asked persistently.
She looked at Xie Jiling’s very small stature as well as the latter’s small and sharp-chinned face. How could she have such a good appetite, yet she was still so thin?
“I’m really full.” Xie Jiling pulled her clothes towards the back to show the curve of her stomach. “Look, my stomach’s bulging out now.”
This child was truly too honest.
Old Mrs. Han was extremely fond of her.
When Xie Jiling was eating earlier, Old Mrs. Han had been afraid of making Xie Jiling uncomfortable, so she didn’t dare disturb the latter.
Seeing as Xie Jiling was now full, Old Mrs. Han said, “Jiling, I know all about you and Zhuofeng.”
“Grandma…” Xie Jiling blushed while complaining inwardly that Han Zhuofeng was extremely loose-tongued.
The fact that she was thick-skinned enough to move into Old Mrs. Han’s home could be overlooked. However, Xie Jiling stayed there for just one night, and she was now in a romantic relationship with Old Mrs. Han’s grandson.
It sounded bad no matter how she looked at it.
It was as if her motive for moving in was to make Old Mrs. Han’s grandson fall for her.
Otherwise, how could they have progressed so quickly after only one night?
Anyone would think that Xie Jiling already had it all planned out from the start.
“Why are you blushing?” Old Mrs. Han laughed heartily. “You’ve already called me ‘Grandma.’ Why are you still so shy?”
