The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman
Chapter 153 - ImprovementSince it was the seventh day, Zaos didn't have to teach Ameria and Drannor, so she spent the rest of the day talking. Once again, Zaos answered some questions above his life in the last three years, and naturally, he answered them all. He couldn't say no to his little sister. He wished that he could have sent some letters, but it would be weird considering that, officially, she was just a maid's daughter.
Once Zaos told most of the things about the last three years, he asked her the things that she has been learning at magic school. Nyana told him that the teachers apparently weren't as good as him, so she couldn't learn things as fast as before, but she still was learning a lot of offensive magic. That was a bit weird… what was she planning to do learning only that?
"Speaking of which, when do you have to return to magic school?" Zaos asked. "The students have to sleep there, right?"
"Yes, at sunset I have to return to the dorms," Nyana said. "You have less than two hours… aren't you going to spend some time with your mother? It is important to spend time with her, she is your mother, after all."
"It is not like I don't want to, but lately, she has been so difficult trying to teach me etiquette and other boring things," Nyana said and then puffed her cheeks.
"I understand your feelings, but it can't be helped," Zaos said.
"Why? I want to join the army and help on focusing in fighting the enemies of the kingdom," Nyana said. "I don't need etiquette to do that."
Zaos frowned when he heard that. He had no idea why she would want to join the army… it wasn't like women didn't work to protect the borders. Still, they were quite rare since most of them were mages and could be hired by special squads that were commanded by nobles. Zaos also wondered if the rumors that spread around town reached her, and that made them decide that.
"Well… things are also pretty stiff in the northern base," Zaos said. "While the soldiers weren't exactly masters at etiquette, that kind of knowledge might help you since all soldiers need to have a certain level of discipline. Etiquette might help you with that."
"If you say so…" Nyana said. "I hope to see you again next week."
"Don't worry, I will be waiting for you here," Zaos said and then patted her head again.
Nyana smiled and then left. It seemed that despite everything, she still was a kid at a difficult age. After looking around for a while, Zaos finally noticed that his mother didn't approach the garden that day… probably because she wanted to give some space to them.
Using his remaining free time, Zaos decided to study the new spells of the books he received. Then he suddenly had an idea… what would happen if he tries to use all those spells at the same time on someone weak or sick? Would that solve the problem and get rid of the disease? That was something worth trying once Zaos learned all the spells of the books. After all, Edea mentioned that that type of spell wasn't commonly used. Hence, it probably didn't have many specialists.
Instead of trying to train and make those spells be cast faster by repeating them repeatedly in his head time and time again, Zaos decided to learn new ones and try what he just thought. After studying hard for an entire week, Zaos learned spells that could decrease the effects of fever, dizziness, headache, and stomachache. Zaos didn't hear that voice when he cast them for the first time, but once he finally used the last spell…
You have learned Purification.
Your Sorcery level has reached level 56.
Your Sorcery level has reached level 57.
"Mmm… how odd…" Zaos muttered. "Why did I learn a skill like that when I didn't study a spell with that name?"
After thinking for a while, Zaos assumed that Purification was the junction of the healing spells that he learned that week… but why did he learn that, considering that he didn't try yet to use the spells at the same time. Regardless, Zaos might learn the reason why once he talks with Edea, he just learned all the spells in the books, after all.
During that week, Zaos also saw Drannor and Ameria making some progress. Since he wasn't using his mana and he didn't have much of it as well, Drannor would need some more time. Still, Ameria was making a lot of progress, and after just one week, she was already able to cast Wind Sword.
"Now I can do the same thing with the arrow, right?" Ameria asked.
"Yeah, right…" Zaos frowned. "You have to be faster casting that spell… unless you want to fire the enhanced arrows once every ten seconds."
Ameria took a deep breath to calm down. Zaos's words were quick to annoy her. Besides, she was already running out of patience after doing the same thing for an entire week. No wonder she gave up on the magic school… Still, Zaos could understand that. The magic school probably was a place that focused on teaching the theory of spells instead of letting the students use them often to get used to it.
"Try to cast the spell as fast as you can and then hit the target," Zaos said in order to make Ameria realize that they still needed to train more.
Ameria nodded and then tried to cast Wind Sword. Since she was focused, she managed to cast the spell after just five seconds, that was pretty fast… but not enough since she had to close her eyes to concentrate, and that was pretty stupid considering that spells were supposed to be used to protect the casters or defeat the enemies. Regardless, Ameria hit the target, but it didn't cause anywhere the same amount of damage Zaos's Wind Sword caused.
"If you improve the damage and speed of this spell, your enhanced arrow also will move faster, for longer, and also will have more piercing power," Zaos said. "Let's say if you try really hard, you can enhance your arrows with wing magic in two weeks. Even if you succeed, I estimate that your new arrows will only be just a bit stronger if compared to the normal ones."
"Is that so…" Ameria said and then started to imagine that.
