The Greatest Sinner

Chapter 134 - One On One

Swing.

Thanks to Lars' attack, Evan was able to cut off the "Bloody Berserker's" hand, but the situation was worse than ever. First, the monster was able to seriously wound Chloe and drink her blood, and then it cracked down on Enni and Lars. Thanks to the blood it had drunk, the "Bloody Berserker" became much stronger than at the beginning of the round.

Whoosh.

After his successful attack, Evan landed several more blows. He wasn't about to let the "Bloody Berserker" go. Evan had to kill it right now, or he would have no more chance to win. If the "Bloody Berserker" drank any more blood, Evan definitely couldn't do anything to it alone.

Bam. Bam. Bam.

Evan swung his scythe at lightning speed and struck, aiming for the left side of the monster's chest. The monster's armor was destroyed in this area, which meant it was the most vulnerable spot.

The scythe's white blade came down on the "Bloody Berserker", but the monster reacted quickly and blocked the blow. Evan turned and swung once more, but even that blow failed to hit its target.

With each attack Evan accelerated and his scythe grew faster and faster, like an icy lightning bolt of death.

Bam. Bam. Bam.

The "Bloody Berserker" was just as fast as Evan, blocking every blow from the young man. But, the monster's sword was not capable of withstanding Evan's attacks indefinitely. Gradually, the scars appeared on the blade of the sword, and several pieces of metal fell off. Moreover, the ice had already covered about a third of the weapon. If this continued, the "Bloody Berserker" would be left unarmed. Evan will simply destroy its sword with an endless series of his attacks.

...

The teachers were surprised by the situation, they hadn`t expected it to turn out like this. Evan was the only one left on the battlefield, and, frankly, he had very little chance of winning.

"They acted so cohesively, attacked all together, destroyed some of his armor and even inflicted some very serious wounds. But, in the end, in just a few seconds, the "Bloody Berserker" took out everyone but Evan. Honestly, I haven`t even expected something like that to happen." The man in the silver mantle said seriously.

"I agree, I think these four are the best of the contestants over the last few years. It's sad that it ended up this way. On the other hand, they`ve done a great job. I think each of them will soon become one of the best students at the Academy." The girl in the silver mantle said calmly.

"Well, their opponent`s very serious. Frankly, I'm surprised they could make it this far. To fight monsters like the "Bloody Berserker", it`s necessary to have some experience, which they haven`t had yet. If they had acted more carefully, the outcome would have been different." The man in the silver mantle said slowly.

The teachers watched each contestant closely in this ordeal and realized that it was almost over. The only one left in the arena was Evan.

"Looks like I won't have to fulfill anyone's request..." Arabella mumbled sleepily as she watched Evan. The young man was swinging his scythe without stopping, and the "Bloody Berserker" blocked his attacks time after time.

"Is that what you think? Don't you really believe Evan has a chance of winning?" Draven said in amazement.

He believed that although the young man's situation was extremely difficult, one should never give up prematurely. The "Bloody Berserker" was a very formidable opponent, but even it could be defeated.

Arabella answered nothing, but Arve joined their conversation.

"Draven, you must understand that only a miracle or an unexpected occurrence can help Evan win." Arve said seriously, watching Evan carefully.

Draven nodded.

Arve adjusted his glasses and continued: "However, I'm not saying it's impossible. Miracles happen all the time and most of them we don't even know about."

...

While the teachers were discussing Evan's actions and what had happened during the test, the young man himself continued to fight.

<Okay, just a little more.> Evan thought as he struck another blow.

With each attack, the splinters splintered from the monster's sword. The blade of the weapon was already frozen and very soon, the monster would lose its sword. The "Bloody Berserker" was just as well aware of that, so it decided to be more aggressive.

Whoosh.

Evan struck another vertical blow, but to his surprise, the monster did not block it. It bent over and the scythe blade struck not on its chest, but on its helmet.

The scythe's white blade was incredibly sharp, but it couldn't cut through such sturdy armor with a single hit.

Whoosh.

In the next moment, the "Bloody Berserker" stepped forward and swung its sword from bottom to top. The lunge was unexpected for Evan. He tried to dodge the sword coming toward his head, but he didn't quite dodge the blow.

Whoosh.

The massive sword sliced through Evan's flesh and cut the young man's left arm off. Evan bounced back at lightning speed. He immediately applied the scythe blade to the wound, thereby freezing it.

<Fuck! It hurts so bad!> Evan was in real agony. His face was contorted with pain, he'd lost an arm because of one mistake. Victory was now out of the question.

At that moment, the "Bloody Berserker's" attention shifted from the wounded Evan to his severed hand. It quickly pounced on it, starting to devour it greedily. It was not a few drops of blood, but living flesh and blood in huge quantities.

The teacher in charge of saving the students was about to summon the Golem, but suddenly Arve stopped him.

"Wait, we should only rescue students if they can no longer fight or are in mortal danger. Look at this guy, he has no chance of winning anymore, but he's still able to fight." Arve said calmly looking at Evan and the "Bloody Berserker".

"AHAHAHAHAHA, this guy doesn't even think about losing. Look at that, he gets his hand chopped off and he doesn't hesitate to start freezing the wound right away. Unreal level of equanimity and concentration."  Draven admired Evan`s spirit.

He liked Evan more and more with each passing second. After the entrance exam, Draven watched Evan almost all the time. To Draven, this young man was more interesting than the others.

"Wow, I haven`t seen you so excited for ages." Arabella said with a slight smile on her face.

Draven usually acted calm and cool, just like he had done during the exam, but that didn't mean he couldn't let his emotions run wild. Evan's fight against the "Bloody Berserker" had stirred him up. Now he wasn't judging his student's actions like a teacher. Instead, he was enjoying the show like a spectator who had come to see an incredible performance.

"'What?' Looks like Evan's luck has run out. I didn't expect it to happen now ... but, why ...?"  Arve said, staring intently at the "Bloody Berserker".

The monster had already eaten Evan's hand, it was full of power, but suddenly strange changes began to happen to it.
