The God Virus

Volume 4 - 236 The Last Step

In another corner of New York, currently, Amara Martin had placed her head on the work desk inside her office while continuously staring at a single spot. It was as if she didn’t have the energy to do anything any longer.

It’s been only a single day since she came back from her own family house. After both their city in England and New York received the cure, their company restarted its functioning once again. So, Amara had to hurry back and manage her own branch here in New York once again.

’So, in the end, his company is the savior of the entire world... and he’s the owner of that company, so I might as well say he’s the real savior of Earth... just like a hero.’ She wondered to herself as she stared into a certain dot on the wall absentmindedly. At this point, having him inside her mind was an unconscious habit that she had developed due to thinking about him too much.

Before the existence of the cure was announced, Amara wanted to confess her feelings to him one last time before leaving this sick world.

So, she hired someone to trail Virus’ current location to no avail.

After that, as she sank in despair due to not even being able to find him let alone meet him, the development of cure was announced to the world together with the details about which company had created it. This instantly made her eyes brighten up as she wondered to herself, ’He must be back! I have a chance of confessing my feelings-’ Albeit, as she thought to this point, she also remembered, ’But the world’s not ending anymore, should I still confess my feeling to him right now just to be rejected?’

And now, she was staring into a single point, while her line of thinking wondered everywhere around him.

She understood that she would be rejected even if she confessed her feelings, so she was extremely reluctant to do that just yet.

Kiss me sayin’ goodbye~

I’m over the moon, feeling gloom~

But I won’t regret~

For giving you the love, for giving you the love~

Abruptly, her phone began to ring, forcing her to snap out of being absentminded as she looked at the caller ID, ’Why is dad calling me at this time?’

"Hello, dad? What’s up?" Picking the phone, she replied in a weak tone.

"Hmm? Are you sick, daughter? Did you travel safe?" Catching her daughter’s voice which seemed to lack vitality, Ethan said doubtfully.

"No, just feeling a bit tired... yeah, I’m already at the office. I’m sure you didn’t call to just ask me that, dad. So... just spill it out."

Coughing while feeling a bit embarrassed, Ethan proceeded, "Daughter... actually, I know you like that boy who owns the Virus Industries, that’s great, since he is even the savior of the whole world now! But... it doesn’t seem like he likes you back... and it’s really the time for you to get married, you’re already at that age. I didn’t want to say this initially since the world was ending anyway... but now-"

"Dad! I don’t wanna get married to anyone else but Aizen! If you can make that happen, then fine! But if it’s someone else you want me to marry... then I don’t want to!" Increasing the volume of her voice, she began to utter with some frustration apparent in her tone.

"But, daughter-"

"No buts! Dad, I have important matters to attend to, so let’s end the call here." Phrasing this sentence, she hung up the line promptly.

In the meantime, Ella was also sitting in her class while staring at the whiteboard as the professor wrote different words on it.

Many days had passed since she went over to the police station to confess to the crime of killing someone but then was allowed to leave just like that. Afterward, no one from the police department even came looking for her in order to ask for further details regarding the case. It was as if the case didn’t exist anymore, just like how that man chief justice had ordered.

Even the news or the internet itself no longer mentioned this case anymore. Any traces of the existence of that night’s slaughter at the Avalon Nightclub had disappeared just like that.

She understood that all of this was because of her boyfriend... or, ex-boyfriend? Even she didn’t quite understand their current relationship anymore.

Moreover, for some reason, nearly every single police officer who spotted her or chanced upon her seemed to be respectfully smiling in her direction. Whenever they saw her, they even offered to escort her to her destination with their police car, every time!

One time, a guy was trying to flirt with her when a police officer came running over as he pushed the poor guy away, making him fall on the ground awkwardly as he even rolled a few times there.

And when she asked the police officer why he did that, his response was like this, "No worries miss, it seemed like he was molesting you! So..."

’Are the police officers allowed to just do that without understanding the whole situation first?’ Feeling absolutely speechless by the officer’s response, this question popped up in her head, however, remembering how she was allowed to leave just like that after killing someone, she didn’t continue further with that thought as a sense of guilt hit her again.

Anyway, afterward, that police officer even introduced himself and told her she can look for him at the nth precinct whenever she faced a problem.

After the class, as they were exiting the door, Mary rushed over to her and started talking, "Elle, why were you so absentminded in the class... is it because of...?"

"Did uncle jack tell you about everything?" Hearing Mary’s words, Ella queried as she comprehended the meaning behind her words.

"Yeah... dad told me you confessed to murdering someone the other night we went out..." She went quiet at this point, as some mixed emotions started bubbling inside her, nevertheless, she continued soon afterward, "And he also told me some very important people seem to have arrived and made the whole case go away because of a very handsome man... and according to his description of this handsome man, I believe he was Aizen... right?"

Seeing she could already guess everything, Ella nodded her head before starting to explain everything that had taken place that night at the nightclub.

By the time Ella finished explaining, she realized Mary was already weeping. Then, she abruptly plunged toward her as she started hugging her while continuing to cry, "Sob... it... sob, it wasn’t your fault Ella... none of it was. If you hadn’t tried to defend, both you and Jessica would’ve been harmed already! So please don’t feel guilty."

Listening to these words which tightly gripped at her heart, teardrops began to uncontrollably fall from her face as she eventually started to wail in her arms just like a baby, "Aaaaaahhhh..."

After that, the two sat in a quiet spot as Ella began to describe everything that was going on between her and Virus with wet eyes. She also told her that the reason why she was so absentminded in the class earlier was mostly because of this matter.

"He’s an idiot for not following you that day just because you told him to let you go! Do you want me to go after him and yell at him for you?" Putting a wrathful face, Mary tried her best to make her friend feel better.

Simultaneously, the talk of the town was still sitting in his previous location as he kept sending waves after waves of energy to those residual cells in his body.

For some reason though, it was proving to be extremely difficult to take this final step in order to complete the Corporeal Tempering Stage. He was rotating the Dark Dragon’s Metamorphosis Revolution with the fastest speed he could, however, it was as if a barrier was keeping him from taking that last step!

’Hmm... by now, I should’ve completed this False Sixth Stage... but... why are those remaining cells still resisting the absorption of the STC energy?’ He pondered to himself as his eyes stayed closed. He was truly feeling confused because this situation was totally out of his calculations.
