Chapter 267 - The Golden Key(2)

Chapter 267: The Golden Key(2)

After hearing about the events from the man, Aakesh left for the central area.

Elsie, whom he needed to repay the favor, was the daughter of the current army chief. She must be in the central area since the army chief couldn't afford his daughter to be kidnapped at this juncture.

Aakesh saw several scenes like stealing and killing on his way to the central area. He had no interest in taking action, but still, seeing him, the criminals escaped.

Aakesh ignored the look of horror and gratefulness on the face of citizens he had indirectly saved and kept going.

A few minutes later, he reached the central area.

The entire area was surrounded by the soldiers of the town. The highest level of the soldier guarding the central area was Level 27, while the lowest level was Level 13.

In Wolfden's terms, each soldier guarding the central area was a high-level being.

Aakesh didn't get the adventurer privilege he used to get before, and the soldiers ordered him to halt his steps.

How could Aakesh take anyone's order? He ignored it and continued.

The soldiers didn't want to initiate a war with the adventurer in this situation, but they had no choice. They couldn't let anyone enter the central area and harm their prospects of getting the town back.

The soldiers attempted to attack. In response, Aakesh only leaked a bit of his pressure, and the next moment, all the soldiers in his vicinity, including the Level 27 soldier, knelt on the ground.

Aakesh didn't stop and entered the area. He had only taken a few steps inside when he noticed a middle-aged man coming toward him, with tens of soldiers following the man.

Aakesh stopped since he recognized the man since he had met him once before. It was the army chief of Wolfden.

"What do you want, adventurer?" The army chief asked. The voice contained no hint of friendliness like before, but instead, it was full of enmity.

The army chief hated no one more than Aakesh since he was directly responsible for the situation the town was going through right now. But he couldn't afford to initiate a suicidal war against someone who could kill the Townhead, so he didn't show it on his face, but still, a few of his real emotions leaked out in his tone.

Aakesh had an expressionless face as he looked around to see if Elsie was there, but he didn't find her.

"Where is Elsie?" Aakesh, instead of answering, the army chief asked him the whereabouts of Elsie.

"Why are you looking for my daughter?" The army chief couldn't control his emotions, hearing Aakesh is looking for his beloved daughter.

"It has nothing to do with you," Aakesh expressionlessly responded and took a step forward, ignoring the army chief and soldiers behind him.

He didn't tell the army chief about the golden key. He knew many things about the Multiverse that were not known to the majority of people, but he was still blind to the darkness hidden within a human's heart.

When he read about several races in his first-ever quest, there was one thing that stood out for humans. It was greed. Humans were so greedy that they could put anybody to shame.

For Aakesh, it wasn't a bad thing as greed was the primary reason behind humanity stepping out from an insignificant planet in some corner onto the big stage and then spreading their footprints across the Multiverse.

But in this case, Aakesh couldn't trust that same trait about them. The position of the Townhead wasn't an ordinary position; it had valuable advantages.

The army chief flared into anger, seeing Aakesh ignoring him, but the next moment, he remembered something, and a glint passed through his eyes.

A few weeks ago, his daughter Elsie had told him about the low-level meditation art she had gifted to the adventurer. In return, Aakesh would return the favor when she would ask for it.

His breathing couldn't help but get rough as he thought that using the favor, Elsie could ask for the adventurer to help them in gaining control of the entrance area since it would be neither big like control of the town, nor would it be small.

"Adventurer, come with me," The army chief called Aakesh and then turned around to go to where his daughter was.

Aakesh nodded and followed the army chief. If he were to search her on his own, it would be like searching a needle in the haystack.

Aakesh could also search for Elsie using the combination of the skills, Universal-Eye and Fortune-Eye, but the central area spread across tens of miles, which exceeded the range of Fortune-Eye. He didn't have enough energy to search for her for this long since a single second cost him 100 units of energy, and he only had around 900 units of energy.

He also needed energy not to fall into a situation where he didn't have enough energy to protect himself.

A few minutes later, both the army chief and Aakesh stopped in front of a two-story building.

The army chief called his daughter out after murmuring something into the guard's ears standing guard in front of the building.

A few seconds later, Elsie came rushing out of the house.

Her eyes fell on Aakesh first. She couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, seeing him coming here, especially after what he did yesterday.

She then looked at her father, only to see him trying to make some strange gestures using his eyes. She didn't understand them, so she asked him about it.

The army chief couldn't help but cough in embarrassment and glare at his daughter for not understanding what he meant.

"The adventurer is looking for you for something."

"Oh...oh!"

At first, she only nodded in surprise, but suddenly the memory of her doing a favor appeared in her mind, so at the end, her tone had excitement in it.

"Hello, adventurer," She greeted Aakesh.

Aakesh expressionlessly nodded in response to her greeting. She then entered inside her house and gestured to him to follow her.

Aakesh didn't want to let the army chief know about the golden key before he told Elsie about it and gave her a chance to make it her own, so he ordered the army chief to wait outside, with a hint of threat in his voice, and then followed Elsie to the house.
