Chapter 47 Red Wine Beauty
Seeing Bei Yunxue drenched with sweat, Wang Feng hurried over to relieve her of the shopping bags. “Sister Xue, have you had dinner yet?” He asked.
“Nope,” Bei Yunxue said, shaking her head. She had spent the whole day running around to various stores. When did she have time to eat?
“Ah. Perfect, then. To reward you for your efforts, tonight, I will cook you dinner myself,” Wang Feng said, taking Bei Yunxue by surprise.
“You can cook?” Bei Yunxue shot Wang Feng a glance, her eyes a mixture of amazement and doubt.
Smiling, Wang Feng said, “Of course. I stayed alone for a year after I graduated. Well, let’s just say that I picked up a few things and added a few good dishes into my culinary repertoire. Sister Xue, could it be that you’re doubting me?”
“No, it’s not that,” Bei Yunxue said with a shake of her head. She blushed slightly and said, “We’ve run out of food at home.”
Indeed, ever since he moved in, Wang Feng had never really seen Bei Yunxue in the kitchen much. Most of the time, she had her meals away from home.
“It’s okay. We can go out now to buy the ingredients. Anyway, tonight’s meal is on me,” Wang Feng said, patting his chest while grinning at her.
“Alright, then. Let me take a shower,” Bei Yunxue said before running upstairs.
A woman taking a bath was no doubt the most time consuming thing in the universe. This time, however, Wang Feng did not have to wait for too long; Bei Yunxue came out in just ten minutes.
Bei Yunxue had no doubt cleaned up extremely well. She wore a pair of glittering high heels, and her long, slender legs were wrapped up in a white dress. Right now, she was the living embodiment of the phrase “white, rich and beautiful”.
Those gorgeous, sexy and swaying legs nearly gave Wang Feng a nosebleed.
Despite Wang Feng’s familiarity with Bei Yunxue, what he saw right now still took him by utter surprise. Then again, for a great beauty like Bei Yunxue, such feats were pretty much a given; she could bring out the best in whatever she wore.
“Sister Xue, it’s just grocery shopping. Aren’t you a little overdressed?” Wang Feng croaked, his throat and tongue suddenly feeling a little parched.
Bei Yunxue shot a glare at Wang Feng. “What do you know? Come on, let’s go,” she said. After that, she came up to him and grasped his arm intimately.
Her sudden action had Wang Feng’s brain short-circuiting for a moment. His stupor lasted for only a while before he recovered. Chuckling, he accepted Bei Yunxue’s display of affection.
He would be an utter fool if he did not take advantage of an opportunity like this.
Tonight, Bei Yunxue’s attire exuded a youthful vibe. She looked just like an angel. Wang Feng now understood why Bei Yunxue had run upstairs to shower and change just now.
On the way down, the pair never failed to turn heads. In fact, the security guard nearly swallowed his entire cigarette when the pair walked pass the gates of No.1 Zhu Cheng.
Bei Yunxue was walking around as if she had springs on her feet; she seemed exhilarated. Wang Feng, on the other hand, found himself at the receiving end of God knows how many murderous looks.
He did not mind the stares, though. He knew that this type of thing would happen sooner or later whenever he and Bei Yunxue were out together. What else could this people do other than look upon him with envy? Also, being jealous would accomplish absolutely nothing, since they could only look, not touch.
Soon, the pair arrived at the market, walking intimately with their arms linked. Zhu Hai City was not like other small places; its market was still lively and bustling with activity even after dark.
“Aunty! How much is this?” Bei Yunxue asked with one hand holding a bundle of celery while the other remained hooked in the crook of Wang Feng’s arm.
Seeing that she had such a beautiful little lady as a customer, the stall owner smiled at them kindly. “I’ll charge you four bucks per pound.”
“Ah, will three and a half do?” Bei Yunxue asked, which caught the stall owner completely off guard. “Strange,” she thought. “This customer doesn’t seem poor at all.”
Then again, she was convinced by Bei Yunxue’s sweet-talking. She smiled. “Fine. Three and a half.”
Bei Yunxue paid for the celery and took the bag happily.
Pretty much the same thing happened for the rest of their grocery shopping, with Bei Yunxue bargaining with stall owners, asking for discounts. Feeling a bit speechless, Wang Feng watched her uncanny behavior from the side. Bei Yunxue had all the money in the world; why would she bother with such trifling amount?
Still, Wang Feng made no comments due to how happy Bei Yunxue was. On the contrary, he felt a swell of comfort and warmth in his heart. “Sister Xue definitely has the makings of a good woman who could handle all house chores flawlessly,” he thought.
Such a good woman; he would be damned if he let another person snatch her away from him.
At that thought, Wang Feng smiled. Then he joined in Bei Yunxue’s bargaining spree, shamelessly demanding discounts from these hawkers.
They spent 30 minutes making the rounds at the market. They had obtained all the materials they needed and were now preparing to head home.
“Sister Xue, I can’t believe you’re such a pro haggler,” Wang Feng remarked, causing Bei Yunxue to blush furiously.
“Oh, shut up. I was just worried that you didn’t bring enough cash,” Bei Yunxue said and then quickly lowered her reddening face when she realized just how intimate their exchange was.
On the way home, they were once again on the receiving end of countless stares from the public. Heads would turn everytime they walked past; these people behaved like the saluting soldiers during one of those military parades held for the Chief Minister.
Right now, with each of them carrying a grocery bag in their arms, they looked like a married couple who had just finished their grocery shopping and was heading home. It was a sight which invoked feelings of disgruntlement in a lot of people.
Indeed, the good ones were taken, and by pigs at that.
They arrived at the gates of the villa district. Just when he was about to enter, Wang Feng suddenly sensed a looming threat in the distant horizon. He turned around, but all he saw was a blur, as if some kind of dark shadow or apparition had passed through his vision.
By the time he finished rubbing his eyes, he saw nothing out of the ordinary.
“Is something wrong?” Bei Yunxue asked, feeling a bit strange when she saw that Wang Feng had suddenly stopped walking.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Wang Feng said, shaking his head. He looked towards the same direction. Still, there was nothing there.
Wang Feng shook his head and decided that he must have imagined it. No.1 Zhu Cheng had tight security; the possibility of an outsider being able to sneak in was slim.
Only the rich and wealthy could afford a place here, which was why the security guards were constantly on patrol. Even then, it was rare for them to discover the presence of any outsiders.
“Come on. Let’s go home,” Wang Feng said, ignoring the envious look from the security guard as he held Bei Yunxue’s soft arm to lead her home.
Wang Feng knew a thing or two about the culinary art. In fact, his skills were considered pretty good. By the time Wang Feng brought out the final dish from the kitchen, Bei Yunxue’s mouth had long since formed into a surprised “O” shape.
“You made all these?” Bei Yunxue asked in mild disbelief.
Wang Feng laughed as he sat down. “Try it. See if they’re any good.”
“Okay, then. Let me try it,” Bei Yunxue said, feeling a surge of excitement. Grabbing a pair of chopsticks, she picked up a piece of celery before placing it into her mouth.
She spat it out before she even began to chew. Then, she poked out her tongue and started fanning it with her hand. She looked super adorable while doing that.
“What’s wrong? Does it taste bad?” Wang Feng asked. A bit baffled, Wang Feng picked up a piece of celery and tasted it.
As it turned out, it was not the lack of condiments that had prompted Bei Yunxue’s reaction just now, only that the dish was a tad bit spicy.
“This is too spicy,” Bei Yunxue said. A deep shade of scarlet had taken form in her face as a result of the spiciness.
“Oops. Well, I personally prefer spicy food. I had no idea you hate spicy food. Shall I go make another?” Wang Feng said apologetically.
“It’s alright. You don’t have to do that. Well, the thing is, my parents had prohibited me from touching any spicy food when I was young. So I always have this craving for taste spicy food. Give me a minute. I’ll be right back,” Bei Yunxue said before she ran into her bedroom. After a short while, she emerged with a bottle of red wine.
The moment the bottle was opened, Wang Feng, despite the fact that he was not much of a wine drinker, instantly caught a whiff of the red wine’s remarkable fragrance. “This wine is probably good stuff,” he thought.
Taking a sip, Wang Feng nodded approvingly. “This red wine tastes great indeed,” he thought. “So much better than white wine besides having a strong aftertaste.”
Of course, he would most likely not be having such thoughts if he knew that one bottle of this cost a few hundred thousand bucks.
Red wine, and a beautiful woman. The only thing lacking at this point was a bunch candle.
Wang Feng swallowed that thought instead of voicing it out; he did not have to guts to say it.
Amidst the caliginous ambience, the beauty’s countenance looked slightly flushed, the sight of which turned Wang Feng into a bit of a dazed fool. Bei Yunxue was so beautiful. Wang Feng had never once gotten tired of her appearance no matter how he looked at her. Heck, he wanted to spend the rest of his life looking at her if he could.
Dinner ended on a delightful note. When he returned to his room, Wang Feng felt a bit heavy-headed and drowsy. It was the effect of the red wine, that much he knew.
Sprawled on the bed, he skipped training and fell into a hazy sleep.
The following day, he woke up early as usual. His head still felt a little bit heavy, but he was nonetheless awake. This was his biological clock, which had never changed.
He activated his X-ray vision and glanced at Bei Yunxue’s room. Bei Yunxue was not in her room, so he figured she must have left already. He then turned his X-ray vision towards the living room, which showed no signs of Bei Yunxue. Breakfast was not served, either.
Usually Bei Yunxue should be back by now.
Wang Feng shook his head and walked out of his room. Before reaching the bathroom, something caught his eye. It was a note that had been left on the coffee table in the living room.
“Sleep well. Wait for me, I’ll bring back breakfast.”
The note was written in Bei Yunxue’s elegant script, and it concluded with Bei Yunxue’s signature followed by a cute smiley.
“Ah, how nice to be loved and cared for by someone,” Wang Feng thought, grinning.
Wang Feng was still grinning when his expression changed suddenly.
Usually, Bei Yunxue would be back by now. Plus, if she had left him a note, it meant that she left a long time ago.
If something came up and she was unable to make it back, she would always give him a call.
All traces of his smile vanished at the thought. He quickly pulled out his phone and called Bei Yunxue.
The dial tone sounded again and again, but nobody picked up. Every beep caused Wang Feng’s heart to drop a little.
He made two consecutive calls, both of which went unanswered. Forgoing his earlier intention to wash up, Wang Feng rushed to the door and ran outside.
He recalled feeling the presence of danger last night; after he had begun training in the art of Qi Gathering, his senses had heightened immensely. That threat he felt last night could not have come out of nowhere.
At that thought, Wang Feng truly wanted to slap himself. He should have used his X-ray vision to identify whatever it was that he thought he saw last night; he had allowed his happiness to cloud his mind last night.
Wang Feng felt tight pull in his heart.
“Sister Xue, please be okay.”
Wang Feng repeated that chant in his heart again and again until he reached the security booth at the entrance.
Coincidentally, the security guard on duty was the same one as the night before. “Big bro, have you seen the lady who came back with me last night?” Wang Feng asked.
“Yeah, I did,” the guard answered. He thought it was a rather strange question to ask. Still, he chose to be frank when he noted Wang Feng’s agitated look.
“How long ago since she left the villa?” Wang Feng asked, a menacing scowl forming on his face.
“Around half an hour,” the guard answered, feeling even more perplexed now, though he did not ask what the question was about.
