When Cheng Yang finally returned, she could smell the faint scent of blood on him.
Xiao Ying exclaimed, “What did you do?” Because she was too panicked, her voice almost cracked.
Cheng Yang paused and shook his head. “Nothing. I just went to a chicken farm to check on the situation today. The smell of blood must’ve stuck.”
Xiao Ying’s face was still pale as she looked at him without blinking.
Cheng Yang looked innocent and let her size him up as she pleased.
If she didn’t know what the future held, Xiao Ying wouldn’t have doubted him. But now, she couldn’t control herself. Every little movement made her imagination run wild.
Cheng Yang told her he was going to go upstairs to wash up before entering his room.
Only when Xiao Ying moved did she realize that her limbs were a little numb.
The next day, Cheng Yang went out early as usual. Xiao Ying went to the laboratory to continue her research. She had been a little absentminded the entire day. Yan Kun asked, “Academician Xiao Ying, are you tired?”
Xiao Ying paused. Seeing that she had taken the wrong test tube, she hurriedly switched to another one and said, “I’m fine.”
Tian Lan said worriedly, “Academician Xiao Ying, if you’re tired, you should rest.”
Xiao Ying waved her hand and said she was fine. She concentrated on the experiment, slightly alleviating the panic in her heart.
When she returned home at night, Cheng Yang had not returned yet. Xiao Ying sat on the couch and waited for him. She decided that she had to clear things up today.
It was already midnight when Cheng Yang returned. When he entered and saw Xiao Ying in the living room, he said in surprise, “You’re not asleep yet?”
Smelling the bloody smell from his body again, Xiao Ying’s face turned pale. She asked, “Where is the bloody smell coming from?”
Cheng Yang used the same excuse as last time. Xiao Ying asked again, but received no response.
Watching him return to his room, Xiao Ying felt a chill run down her spine. If Cheng Yang really walked the same path as in his previous life, what would the point of her efforts be?
The amulet suddenly said, “Master, fate cannot be changed. After the Heavenly Dao interferes, everything will return to normal.”
Xiao Ying was stunned. It turned out that the amulet had already figured out that she did not want Cheng Yang to walk the same path as in his previous life.
However, Xiao Ying did not mind the amulet’s words. She would definitely change Cheng Yang’s life.
The next day, Xiao Ying woke up early and hid by the door. She watched from a small crack, paying attention to the situation outside at all times.
Sure enough, not even a moment later, Cheng Yang’s door suddenly opened and she heard footsteps.
After the footsteps had gone far, Xiao Ying carefully opened the door and saw Cheng Yang going out with a black backpack.
She followed him without thinking.
As soon as she opened the door, she encountered a couple walking over with two children while carrying luggage. Xiao Ying looked at their faces and felt that they were a little familiar, so she took a few more glances. In that time, Cheng Yang disappeared.
Seeing that she could not catch up, Xiao Ying could only stamp her feet angrily. If she missed this chance, she did not know when the next one would come.
The man approached her and asked, “Little girl, do you know which house this is?”
He spoke in broken Mandarin and handed her a small slip of paper. Xiao Ying smiled politely and took it from him. Wasn’t this the house she and Cheng Yang lived in?
As she sized up the family of four again, a thought flashed through her mind. She knew why these people felt familiar.
They were the people in the documents she had seen in Cheng Yang’s study.
Xiao Ying asked, “What brings you here?”
The woman who had been tugging at the two children said, “We’re here to look for a relative.. Our nephew lives here.”
