Chapter 687: Magics

A gentle breeze was blowing through the landscape that was still blanketed under the cover of darkness. The valley leading up to the pyramid's entrance was once again live with a new commotion.

Several silhouettes were engaged in combat with more thread-like creatures. But unlike the battle with the barbarians, this one was much less tense.

The sounds of magic filled the air. The low hum of spells being cast and the various subsequent noises from their actualization echoed in the valley.

On top of the hill in the exact same spot from where Hao Xuan had first crossed over from, stood four of the six silhouettes. Three of them had canine-like fox ears and the last one was a human female.

Of the three demihumans, two were females, Princess Helena and Princess Inara, and the third was a youngster, the same one that had tried to help Hao Xuan when he first 'landed', Uri. (Ch 627)

The human female was the girl referenced as Lady Jiang by the Grand Priestess. Her dainty figure was just a little bigger than Uri's who was barely 11-12 years old himself. (Ch 664)

Dressed in quite an eye-catching attire that was clearly out of place for this world, she stood at the edge of the hill with both her hands extended outward. A light green glow surrounded the palms of her hand as she mumbled something under her breath with an earnest expression.

Down on the valley floor, two large female demihumans with muscular builds and feline features including long tails were fighting against the same corpses that had white thread-like worms protruding out of different orifices.

The only difference was the presence of numerous wooden branches that were protruding from the ground below, obstructing their way and holding them in one spot while the feline demihumans struck from a safe distance using some peculiar-looking spears.

Each spear was 1.5 meters in length, the tip of their blades enhanced with a glowing symbol, a word of power. Both spears had the same word of power that looked like a spark. Whenever they attacked, bright yellow sparks would erupt from the blades upon coming into contact with any object, setting them alight.

This included even the tree branches that were holding the creatures in place. It made the whole scene look more like a practice session rather than an actual fight since there was no real risk to anyone involved, well, to no one other than Lady Jiang who was the one that had created the branches in the first place.

It was due to her magics that they could fight with such ease and comfort while she was the one that had to bear the pain and distress of having her magic burnt and broken by the feline demihuman's attacks.

There are as many different types of magics as there are words to describe each one. In one such spell type, the magician casts a spell once which is equal to pressing the trigger of a gun.

What happens to the bullet after it leaves the gun has nothing to do with the gun or the one who fired it. In much the same way, the magic, in this case, manifests in one form or another once the spell has been cast, regardless of the magician.

Then there is the other type that is directly connected and dependent on the magician to either control it or simply provide a continuous source of mana. This type of magic is more of an extension of the magician rather than something abstract.

In the second type, the magic could even be something similar to an extra limb, which was the case for Lady Jiang.
