48 Outright Lying

Niu Tongsheng didn’t catch on to the meaning behind Zhao Chuchu’s words, so he was relieved.

“It’s time to teach them a lesson. That way, they won’t dare to be so shameless in the future.”

“Well, as long as they don’t mess with me, I won’t do anything to them.”

“The house and the tile roof have been fixed. I saw that your table and stools are not in good shape, so I also repaired them.”

“Thank you, Village Chief.”

Niu Tongsheng was practical, but he was not stupid. Once he got an off-ramp, he was happy enough to do his best to help.

“Chuchu,” Xie Heng called her from inside the room. “Are you back?”

“Yes,” Zhao Chuchu replied.

Then Xie Heng probed his way out. “Did you get hurt?”

“I’m fine.” Zhao Chuchu walked over to support Xie Heng. “What are you doing out here? I was just talking a little bit with the village chief.”

“I was worried about you.”

“…”

She didn’t see it.

It was indeed like bullshitting out in the open.

Zhao Chuchu helped him back into the room and put the basket on her back down.

Xie Heng asked in a voice only the two could hear. “What’s going on?”

Zhao Chuchu recounted what happened briefly.

Xie Heng smiled. “Their legs were broken. Is that right?”

“I still need to heal them.”

“Aren’t you afraid they’ll forget the pain once they are healed?”

“Then the next time, I’ll let them hurt for eternity. But I’m a good person, and I want to give them a chance to atone for themselves.”

Xie Heng regarded Zhao Chuchu with a profound look.

He could not understand her thoughts.

Zhao Chuchu took out the medicinal materials in the basket and said, “These are the medicines to treat your eyes. Try it first. If they don’t work, we’ll try something else.”

She said it loudly so that everyone outside could hear her.

“Don’t be afraid. We will find a way to make you better.”

“Mmm.”

Xie Heng was expressionless.

There were more than ten kilos of flour in the basket and other miscellaneous condiments like oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar.

The people outside were working so diligently that Zhao Chuchu decided to also make dinner for them.

When she told Xie Heng about her plan, Xie Heng appeared a little hesitant.

“Don’t look at me like that. I can really cook pretty well!” Zhao Chuchu was a little upset.

Why was he always behaving like this? Why was he always thinking that she couldn’t do this or that?

She admitted that she couldn’t do everything, but she could make money! And all the money she made had been exchanged for food and supplies in her carry-on space!

“Just don’t make anyone think you are trying to poison them.” Xie Heng finally squeezed it out after a long while.

Zhao Chuchu almost couldn’t control her hand from slapping him in the face.

She moved the ten kilos of flour to the kitchen by herself. She said to Niu Tongsheng and the others, “How about staying at our house tonight for dinner?”

But everyone declined.

Zhao Chuchu ignored them and closed the kitchen door to boil the water.

Of course, she was not going to actually cook.

She didn’t want to poison anyone!

Occasionally, Zhao Chuchu would make sounds in the kitchen as if she were cooking. When it was about time, she put the flour back into the space again and took out the big plain buns and vegetarian buns to steam in the pots.

When the kitchen looked like it had been used, Zhao Chuchu opened the kitchen door and called out to Niu Tongsheng and the others. “Village Chief, would you please come and lend a hand to bring out the food? It will get dark soon. Let’s eat something first.”

Niu Tongsheng frowned. “You are tight on money, so you better save it.”

“Money can be earned, but we still have to eat, right? Everyone worked very hard today. Besides, if you don’t stay here to eat, who will eat all these steamed buns I made?”

When Xie Heng heard that it was buns again, his heart sank.

He had a bad feeling that until his eyes were “healed,” he would continue to eat these steamed buns till kingdom comes!
