435 “He... he did it,”
Zi Han fought to hold on as the creature began to shake vigorously trying to remove him from its body. He smiled slyly as he continued to stab his way up towards the back of its head.
When he finally reached the back of its head the creature began to fight violently shaking its head trying to get rid of the insignificant ant that was clinging to its body.
Zi Han felt a powerful wind and cloud of dust strike his body ceaselessly but he held on. With every ounce of strength remaining in him he stabbed the eye of the creature and it bellowed in agony before dashing off in a random direction hoping to shake off Zi Han.
Zi Han drove the blade deeper inside the eye of the creature controlling the direction the beast was going. He was leading it directly to the valley filled with glass shards.
“That’s it... that’s it,” spoke Zi Han through gritted teeth as the sand dune he was looking for came into view. The creature grew closer and closer but just as it was about to fall over the slope it realised what was happening.
It tried to stop before it fell over but it was already too late. The slope of sand collapsed dragging the both of them down the field of obsidian glass shards. Zi Han held on tightly as they fell but he was still thrown off from the head of the beast. His body flew up in the air and from a distance, he could see the hovercraft coming from the south again.
Knowing this person was safe was enough for him. He didn’t want to see Yi Chen die before his eyes again. An inexplicable warmth spread all over his body like mycelium spreading in his veins threatening to take over.
His gaze fixed on the hovercraft flying in his direction Zi Han let it go he let it all go thus his body free fell to the ground where the creature that had its body pierced in so many places.
The beast that was at the brink of death lay in its pool of blood but when it saw the cause of its misery falling towards it it suddenly didn’t want to die alone so it opened its mouth ready to devour him.
.....
Zi Han smiled happily and the mycelium like network spread to his lips as a bright light shone all over his body. His body was suddenly shadowed by a sapphire phoenix before he disappeared with the creature left eating air pies.
The simulation device suddenly went haywire with the screen glitching and every single warning alarm echoing throughout the room. The lights flickered rapidly that they would trigger seizures.
But in the blink of an eye calm was restored like nothing had happened. The simulation had finally ended and the lights in the room turned on revealing white walls and floors but no Zi Han.
Everyone looked at the empty room in awe and for a minute or two, no one dared to open their mouths. It was Zi Xingxi who got up first and dashed into the room. The door slid open with a swoosh and she ran in but her steps faltered after a second. “He... he did it,” she whispered as she clenched her shaking hands.
“He did it... he really did it,” she said again not knowing whether to laugh or cry. She was happy that he had finally succeeded but now she was worried about where he was and if he was okay.
She tried to call his light brain but it wasn’t going through. Zi Zingxi tried several times but it was still not available.
She was about to try again but her hand held her wrist and she tremblingly raised her head. It was when she looked at her father that she realised she was crying. Her tears hung on her luscious lashes like dew on a blade of grass blurring her vision.
Zi Feiji took out his handkerchief and tried to wipe her tear stained face but Zi Xingxi began to cry even more. Zi Feiji placed his palm at the back of her neck and pulled her close into a hug and she cried on his shoulder.
“Dad...,” she called out in a brittle voice. She didn’t know when her son would be back or where he was. She had hoped he would come back to him soon but her heart couldn’t help but be broken thus she let herself go and cried.
While she was crying, Yi Zhen took this opportunity to leave. He had already done what he came here for and had to leave now before Zi Xingxi’s anger redirected towards him. He wasn’t afraid of her before but always considered her troublesome.
Now his opinion of her had changed drastically. He wasn’t embarrassed to say he was afraid of mama bears. When it comes to protecting their cubs they really don’t fuck around.
Secretary K didn’t stop him. He let him leave for the sake of preserving the relationship between Zi Han and Yi Chen.
He left the warship and went to the military headquarters so he could send an announcement to the relevant officials that his son was going on a sabbatical for some time.
When he reached the Marshal’s office the exhaustion he had kept at bay for so long overwhelmed him. He slumped in his chair and pinched the bridge of his nose only for a familiar voice to startle him.
“You have been gone for so long... was there any progress,” said Lin Ruoxi who had been sleeping on the couch holding her son’s jacket which was a little damp from her tears.
Yi Zhen’s dull eyes flickered slightly as he raised his head happy to see his wife. He missed her so much that it was slowly killing him inside. The pain of losing his son to an unknown place was already agonising enough but going through it alone was taking a toll on him.
He desperately needed his wife but his wife didn’t want anything to do with him. Only a few could relate to the joy he was feeling right now.
“He succeeded. We can only hope he finds this place soon and bring our son back,” he said and Lin Ruoxi felt a little sense of ease despite how small it was. She really wanted her baby back. It was driving her so crazy that she couldn’t keep her composure in front of the children anymore.
