320 Was it worth it?
Lynn Feng slowed her steps in the long dark corridor as she recalled the evidence she found in the prime minister of Lienov’s virtual vault.
She didn’t know how Zi Xingxi was going to react to this. She honestly thought it was over and done with but apparently not. Now she had to break this news to Zi Xingxi and knowing her boss things would really get bloody. She didn’t really want to see blood thus she walked slowly like a zombie.
Lucky for her Secretary K came over to check on her thus they met in the passageway. “Is he lying?” asked Secretary K while taking away the device in her hand.
“He is absolutely not lying. Can you, can you take it for me? I really don’t feel like seeing blood right now,” she asked with her hand on her waist.
Secretary K scrolled down the information on the small screen before glancing at her. “I can but you owe me,” said secretary K with a slight quirk at the corner of his lips.
Lynn Feng’s eyes widened as she asked, “Why are you smiling like that?”
Secretary K didn’t say anything. He just walked away disappearing into the darkness in the long corridor.
Lynn Feng scratched her head while murmuring, “What was that about?” This man should never smile because when he did he made one feel shivers all over their body like they were being stared at by a devil.
Secretary K entered the room reeking of blood. The strong smell of iron was overwhelming but secretary K’s micro-expressions didn’t even change. He remained indifferent as he handed the information to Zi Xingxi.
.....
“Thank you,” said Zi Xingxi before looking in the man’s direction. His dead eyes seemed to light up when he saw the device. At that moment he had some hope that the nanoparticles in his body would be stimulated and send a distress signal through the device she was holding but this was just a fool’s dream.
Zi Xingxi chuckled upon seeing this. While scrolling through the files on the device she said, “Mr. Fortin, this device is very secure. You have to understand there is no saving you now.”
After seeing this the light in his eyes instantly dimmed. The smile on Zi Xingxi’s face suddenly fell as she kept going through the interactions between the two people in the months leading up to her husband’s death. The was never a mention of names or anything but the discussions were detailed. Whoever this person was was very good at concealing their identity.
They didn’t reveal anything about themselves at all. It was like working with a ghost or a shadow. Seeing things were like this Zi Xingxi could understand why he investigated this person.
It was in case this ghost betrayed him and pinned everything on him thus he could only protect himself.
But the ghost seemed to have kept his promise because after that Fortin was elected as the prime minister of Lienov and his life was on the up and up. His wife had a husband and his kids had a father.
He lived guilt free for two decades yet she was forced to be a single mother. Zi Xingxi pursed her lips suppressing the emotions that were on the verge of bursting as she read through the other files.
It turns out from what he found out the person was most definitely a prime minister and he had a personal vendetta against the prince. It was much more than just about power. This person really hated her husband.
There was a lot of incriminating evidence but there was nothing exposing his identity. Zi Xingxi stared at the screen her eyes as dark as the abyss. A storm was brewing and they was no running away from it.
“Is this everything?” she asked while staring at him with a piercing gaze making his wounds burn as though recalling the feeling of getting his skin flayed.
“That’s... that’s all I know,” he whispered before breaking down in tears.
“Was it worth it?” she asked as she got up from her chair and walked over to him.
She crouched down and looked him straight into his eyes before asking again, “Was it worth taking an innocent soul’s life?”
The man lowered his head recalling the look on his father’s face when he pushed him down the stairs. He wasn’t even sure if it was an accident or if he did it on purpose.
Even though he had sentenced his father to death his father just looked at him with affection in his eyes as he touched his cheek.
Was it worth it? No, it wasn’t. He didn’t mean to kill his father but it was too late. He couldn’t go back in time to fix it. He had to live with the fact that he killed his father. It was slowly eating at his soul. As for the prince, he regretted it now but before he felt like his actions were justified.
Zi Xingxi sneered as she raised the man’s chin and said, “Now you can go and meet your father. You can go apologize in person.”
After saying that she took out a hairpin from her hair and without changing her expression she stabbed into his neck with so much force the pin drove through his throat with blood splattering everywhere including Zi Xingxi’s face.
She shoved the body away before instructing Secretary K to take care of this mess. The moment she stepped into the stealth cruiser she was met with Lynn Feng holding up a towel while averting her gaze.
Zi Xingxi thanked her as she took the towel before saying, “Find out who this person is,” while she was walking away to her cabin.
She wiped away the blood on her face feeling very dead inside. She somehow became numb to it all at this point. While she was tugging at the hem of her dress to take it off her light brain rang and a large floating screen appeared displaying prime minister Ikeda’s name.
She pulled her dress down and said to Chronos, “Answer it.”
