263 Dealing with a troublemaker
Tap tap tap tap....
“Fuck... why the fuck isn’t it working... shit.”
Sounds of violent tapping and curses rang in the air in this tiny back room at the back of a temple.
The young man pushed his hair back revealing his smooth forehead with throbbing purple veins.
When he came to this planet a mandate was given and he had to fulfill it before the mass genocide of its people but now that the date was drawing closer things weren’t going as planned.
The military secrets he was meant to steal proved to be more difficult to attain than he initially thought. When he realized how complicated the Federation’s technology was when compared to the Republic he knew things wouldn’t be simple.
For months on end, he had sat down in this back room learning the intricate system and how to infiltrate it. He had managed to gain the sympathy of a priest of the temple of the god of good fortune thus he didn’t have to worry about food or clothing. He only had to do mundane tasks here and there which allowed him to learn without any worries.
But despite putting on so much work he still couldn’t gain access to the base. This meant that he could only physically go to the military base and extract the files. The problem though was that when he got up to leave his old-fashioned system suddenly froze and it was no longer working.
Without it, there was no way he would be able to achieve his goal thus out of frustration he began to cuss while harshly tapping on the screen.
.....
What he didn’t realize was that it was no pure coincidence. He had just encountered a god in the hacking world. Without him being aware of it his image was already being broadcasted to five people and they knew exactly what he had been doing from the moment he found himself in the Federation.
Just as he lost all hope his screen that was frozen and glitching suddenly turned dark. He moved in closer to take a look. Unexpectedly an image of a terrifying ghost with pale skin, red eyes, and a bloody scar across its face appeared shrieking like an evil spirit.
“Fuck!” he swore as he fell to the ground in terror. Placing his hand on his chest he sat up on the ground breathing laboriously. “Ghosts aren’t real, ghosts aren’t real, ghosts aren’t-,” he chanted only for loud melodious laughter to fill the tiny room.
His brows creased as he got up peeking from underneath the table. What he saw had him stupefied. It was a young man clad in military gear with a smile as sinister as that of a bully in high school.
“Wow... not only are you a freaking coward but you also have fuckin terrible tech skills,” said Li Ran trying to buy time for the pair of muscle heads to get this youngling.
“You... what are-,” said the boy before realizing what was happening. He immediately scrambled to his feet and dashed towards the broken-down cupboard in the room. He most likely had a tunnel access behind it thus he pulled it down.
With a loud bang, it crashed to the ground raising dust. “You can’t run, it’s already too late,” said Li Ran only for the young man to get clasped by the back of his collar and pulled back before he smashed into the broken-down table he was working on before.
Grimacing in pain he curled up into a ball but before he even recovered his collar was clutched and his body was pulled up. An excruciating stinging pain emanated from his back making him cry out. It wasn’t on purpose but his cries would definitely attract the Caspers lingering around.
Omari took out a pill with a transparent shell and force-fed the young man. The youth wasn’t familiar with this type of medicine but he knew it wasn’t anything good. Inside of it was a tiny luminous parasite-like thing with tentacles flowing gracefully like that of a jellyfish.
He pressed his lips flat refusing to open his mouth but he was not Omari’s opponent. Zain squeezed his throat tighter while Omari forced the pill down his throat.
As soon as that pill was swallowed, the man found that he couldn’t speak. His speech had been taken thus he couldn’t make any more noise. Zain let him go and as he collapse to the floor the young man glared at him with bloodshot eyes while holding his throat.
Omari cuffed his wrists together with laser cuffs before taking out a restraining collar and tying it around his neck. This restraining collar was meant for people with mental power but its effectiveness was also good on regular folk.
Omari grasped his chin and said, “You move and it will send strong pulse signals into your brain and torture you. Do you understand?”
The young man who was glowering at him suddenly showed a fleeting quirk at the corner of his lips. Zain had a bad hunch and as expected a minute later Omari was attacked by an invisible thing flinging him straight into the wall.
Omari tried to get up when he felt something grab his neck trying to strangle him. He stretched out his hand and held back the creature. Zain rushed over to assist but his leg was suddenly swept by that boy who then proceeded to crawl away before getting up.
Zain was about to retaliate when something pressed his body down with thick saliva dripping on his gear. “Fuck,” he swore while glancing at the floating screen facing Li Ran.
Li Ran already knew what to do. He pulled up another floating screen in front of him and tapped a yellow button while staring at the young man who thought he was going to regain his freedom. With a sharp crisp sound, the young man’s body fell to the ground as he convulsed with his eyes rolling at the back.
With the boy on the ground, Zain repeatedly punched the creature as the fight intensified. Omari, on the other hand, felt for his dagger and as soon as he grasped the hilt he drove it straight into the creature’s skull repeatedly with purple blood spattering on his face and the walls.
With a deafening cry, the creature lost strength as the invisible barrier around it faded. Omari kicked the creature away and got up wiping the blood on his face with the back of his hand. He raised his hands clutching the hilt and stabbed it straight into the back of the creature pressing Zain down.
The creature screeched as it flung its arms pushing him away. Omari’s head hit the fallen cupboard and as he shook his head trying to get up he was pressed down again. This time the creature was partially visible showing its hideous face. Omari gritted his teeth and the creature opened its mouth and screeched at him with its saliva flying everywhere.
