Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 69: Flametrower (1)Chapter 69: Flametrower (1)
“Holy crap… that was dangerous,” Luke said after he landed and watched the gigantic wasp falling on the ground. “For a moment, I saw my life passing in front of me… fortunately, I leveled up a few times and that dispelled the status effect.”
The spell that was freezing the area dissipated, and the heat of summer quickly dispersed all the cold air. At the same time, the remaining wasps began to run away… that was weird. They didn’t seem that smart compared to the wolves… unless they received an order to escape, which was impossible given that the crystal was destroyed, they didn’t have any reason to be able to discern that they should run. Nevertheless, that would help Luke to save some time. As if things weren’t good enough, Luke also noticed that the monster dropped a weapon. It was a wand…

It wasn’t a bad item, but Luke certainly wouldn’t use it often. It was even more so, considering that it was only useful to cast a spell that wouldn’t level up and give him status points.
“Let’s hope that you will be useful at some point…” Luke said and then began to run around while using Dash to get all the loot left behind by the monsters.
Once that was done, Luke hurried to the pickup, and he arrived just in time to check the radio transmitter and see that Billy was trying to communicate with him. It was such a pain not to rely on technology anymore, but Luke thought it was better that way since he didn’t have too many distractions or reasons to slack off anymore.
“Where have you been, Luke?” Billy asked. “I have been trying to contact you for a while.”
“I was opening a path while I was heading to Orlando…” Luke said and then sighed to calm down.
“Why didn’t you leave one of the others to watch the car?” Billy asked.
“We separated for many reasons, now stop wasting time and tell me, where can I find your family?” Luke asked. “I am more or less 150 miles away from Orlando, but with some luck, I can reach the city today.”
“Is that so? I thought you were having a hard time opening a path by yourself,” Billy said.
“There are no zombies or monsters in the roads, I only found some when I was Andy crossing a small city,” Luke replied. “Rather than that, how you don’t know that? I thought the military had the resources to check our territory.”
“We do have, but we are short handed, many of us died on the first day,” Billy explained. “We are focusing on strengthening our forces since it is clear that ordinary weaponry won’t work for long.”
Luke wanted to complain about that, but in the end, it would be weird to expect much more from anyone in that kind of situation. Instead of waiting for the others to solve everything, Luke would do his own thing to reach his goals.
“Nevertheless, my family lives between the Orlando international airport and the universal Orlando Resort,” Billy said. “It is pretty close to one of the southern entrances of the city, so I imagine that the zombies must be approaching there… their names are Royce and Abby Saunders, and my little sister is Chloe.”
“If they didn’t leave the area,” Luke added.
“My folks are pretty stubborn, they wouldn’t leave their house even if the whole neighborhood were to be taken by zombies,” Billy explained. “Fortunately, my father has a collection of guns and my little sister is pretty good at kickboxing, so their chances of being alive are pretty high.”
Luke nodded. Since he survived and he had practically zero useful sets of skills, perhaps Billy’s family was fine. While firearms were getting useless with each passing day, they sure were deadly on the first one. Kicks were also powerful weapons that some people could use… even though it was a bit dangerous to put someone’s limbs near the heads of zombies.
“All right… I will see what I can do,” Luke said and then sighed.
“Be careful and don’t try to act like a hero to impress my little sister,” Billy said. ” She is 28, so she isn’t interested in kids.”
“Only you can say that kind of thing…” Luke said and then sighed again. “Anyway, you have two days to get your hands on an airplane.”
“I will try my best not to disappoint you,” Billy said. “I am counting on you, Luke.”
The call ended, and then Luke turned the engine and began to move. Following that route, he will have to pass through some other cities, so it was clear that he would either face some extra zombies or monsters. Zombies were easier to handle since they didn’t have someone commanding them, so Luke was expecting to find them…
“You might want to find a route that doesn’t pass through any cities or towns,” Rina said. “I just noticed it, but it seems that the mana on your planet are concentrating in those places because many people died there and it was also the places the zombies stayed for a while.”
“So, the death of humans enriched those places with mana?” Luke frowned. “Even though humans couldn’t use or sense it, they still had it?”
“It was a small amount, but thanks to their numbers, their deaths did that,” Rina replied. “Maybe that is why some monsters appeared sooner than usual and others leveled up too fast… I never heard of such a small planet that had so many inhabitants.”
Once again, Luke confirmed that those two didn’t have all the answers, but at least they were a great help during the fights, so Luke couldn’t complain all that much. Come to think of it. Luke recalled that they only had a few years of battle experience… he wondered if he would last for that long.
