Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 140: A game (2)Chapter 140: A game (2)
At the end of that day, Luke had finished making the first layer of the walls, it was only half a meter large, and he was planning to make it twenty times larger… it would take a lot of time for him to do that. Still, he couldn’t waste three weeks just doing that. He just built the foundation. The only problem was the river. He couldn’t put walls near it without risking the monsters on the river attacking whenever possible… he couldn’t stop the flow of the river either, since they would need that food source. In the end, it seemed that those places would need special attention… creating watch towers and putting some skilled survivors there might be a good choice, the only problem was the fact that flying monsters existed and their numbers weren’t exactly small.
The town’s new inhabitants had also selected the houses they were going to use and got all the weapons they could find. As one would expect, finding nails in garages was pretty easy, so they got tons of it. Luke wondered why he never found them in those places… He probably didn’t look for long or he didn’t have attentive eyes to notice small details.
“You have a lot of weapons here… but not everyone can fight those monsters in the water,” Mark said when Luke went to check things with the others. “We also have bows and crossbows, but their aim was the problem.”
“Well, we will have to save that problem by constantly practicing,” Luke said. “Once everyone gets over the fears of fighting, things will improve naturally… I hope so, anyway.”
Mark realized that it was the only solution, but most of the people they saved survived by hiding instead of fighting. They would need a push to become used to fighting, and Luke knew what to do. That night, he took five random survivors to a nearby city and forced them to fight a horde of zombies. While it was a small city that only had ten thousand or so zombies, it still would take too much time for them to defeat those by themselves. The difference in levels and power was that big. However, Luke makes up for it by using some nails and Weapon Augmentation at first. The survivors began to level up like crazy, and when they reached level twenty, they began to actually kill the zombies. It was a very time consuming process, though.
As one would expect, most of them picked crossbows to fight since it was easier to Aim for them, and while it seemed like a problem to create an army of long-ranged fighters, it was fine for the time being.
In exchange for that help, Luke asked the survivors to buy the skill Earth Wall, and he also told them to spend at least four hours every day increasing the length of the walls. While only five people couldn’t use the spell as much as him, once thirty of those can do that, they will be able to do as much as Luke.
“This seems like a waste of time,” Shalia said.
“Don’t say things like that. If you used your head, you would create a foundation for a nice base for your parents as well,” Rina said.
“They died when the monsters appeared, so I didn’t have to worry about that,” Shalia said.
The atmosphere got a bit heavier after that, but in any case… it seemed that those had lost their relatives due to the invasion. Luke already knew that Rina was a single child, but it was hard to ask the same thing to Shalia without risking stepping on a landmine. Luke also wanted to hear more about Shalia’s life and her home planet, but he decided to wait for the moment where she would do that on her own. In any case, while it seemed like a waste of time, Shalia didn’t complain that much because now they could drain all the mana to increase the power of their existence in the world. Before, it took them three weeks for them to be able to assume their original form ON Earth for a single second, but now they could do it for two seconds, and only one week had passed since that time.
At first, only Amanda and Celia could defeat the monsters in the river without risking a counterattack. Still, after a few days, the survivors that left to hunt with Luke began to be able to do as well. There was one problem with the fishing, though. It was the fact that they needed to get rid of all the fish in the river before getting the bodies. Fortunately, only a few stayed near the city every day… probably because the competition was too big and there wasn’t room for the others to stay nearby. So, once those we dealt with, ten others would appear one hour or so later. According to the people that fish every day, they were coming upstream.
“I suppose this is something that I can let it go… probably,” Luke said while rubbing his chin.
While it was a problem that those were probably eating the native fish species, destroying the crystal wouldn’t solve the issue… the crystal was going to appear somewhere else, even if Luke destroyed it. Besides, finding the crystal underwater was going to be a real pain in the ass.
In any case, after a full week, Luke only leveled up three times even though he cleared many hordes of many cities. During that time, he took turns in taking the survivors to hunt at day and night, so a good part of them was already working and finishing the third layer of the wall.
Things were going really well… Rina and Shalia already could even maintain their original forms for four seconds, so things were going well… but Luke saying such a thing was just a sign that trouble was on the way.
