247 The maid pleads for her life

Vincent clenched his fist and swung his fist with three charges at the spiked vine visor. *Crack* The visor shattered after meeting with a powerful shockwave of condensed mana. His fist entered the hollow head, and he grabbed the now apple-sized seed core.

Vincent clenched the seed core tightly and commenced draining the three-and-a-half-meter vine monster. The vines withered, and the terrifying vine monster became bristle soon after.

Vincent jumped down, and the monster of stick-like vines broke. He raised his hand to signify victory, and fragments of the seed core started falling from between his fingers.

Many eyes were looking at this one man. Vincent looked majestic and a sight to behold. However, only one person shivered in utter terror after Vincent took down what could be impossible by many fighting together as a team.

Ester and Lupa stared at Vincent with a welcoming smile on their faces. It was the first time Vincent fought and won without a single scratch on his skin nor his clothes.

Lilith’s maid couldn’t believe her eyes. The man she once shouted at after he made her lady explode in a turret of tears and cried herself to sleep later in the day was the same one who saved her life. The maid gulped and wanted to ask for help, so she began to massage her legs and try to stand.

Far away from their location were two women bouned to the wall suffering from aphrodisiac. They saw Vincent’s heroic figure destroying the scary-looking vine graveyard monster and then destroying a three-and-a-half-meter less threatening to look yet still dangerous vine monster.

The two slightly similar-faced sisters drooled over Vincent with a curved smile.

[This fight was exhausting and dangerous, wasn’t it? I used half of my mana to slow down your perception of time.]

.....

[Now, let’s figure out if my suspicion of why the situation escalated to this magnitude was because of a certain someone. My money is on Iris, but I wonder what happened when we weren’t looking. The curiosity to know is killing me.]

-I have the same sentiment. I hope Iris will be able to recover if she saw the dead goblins... but now they have become withered like mummies and are unrecognizable.-

“Vincent, can you check on Iris? Her eyes are open, but she isn’t responding to my voice.” Ester urgently asked as she gently placed Iris on the ground.

“Yeah, I think she is sick.” Lupa was worried. Additionally, she wanted to personally thank Iris after she urgently summoned a friendly seed guardian and saved their lives.

[Overheat deactivated.]

[Host Race returning to human.]

.

Vincent stopped using Overheat and stored his bristle gauntlets now made of mutated ash in his Soul Dimensional Storage. He had used all the mutated ash he collected thus far to make the monstrous graveyard vine monster leave Vincent for last.

“Okay. Let me take a look.” Vincent lowered on his knee and gently touched her cheek. He focused his gaze and used Inspection on her.

“It’s going to be fine, Iris. I will start healing you.” Vincent didn’t know if she could hear him or not, but he at least knew Iris was conscious enough to summon a seed guardian.

“Soul Power Minor Heal...” He repeated three times.

A bright light surrounded Iris and started healing her aliments. Iris didn’t look sick nor in pain. Her eyes were now completely closed, and a faint snore could be heard.

Iris was now sleeping peacefully. However, Vincent wanted to make sure she was going to be fine, so he used Inspection again.

[Condition] Minor Injury, Exhausted, Minor Cold Tolerance Down (2Min), Minor Mana Fatigue

.

“How is her condition? ” Ester asked with a worried frown.

“The healing has done its job. Iris is now exhausted from the regeneration process, and she needs to be kept warm for two minutes. I will leave her to you while I interrogate the last human trash still alive.” Vincent let Iris in Ester’s hands.

Vincent got up. He asked for Lupa to follow him. Vincent then saw the maid slowly standing on her feet and decided to approach her first.

The Viscount Demel Blackheart guards leader looked at Vincent while his teeth clattered together as if he was terrified. Vincent decided to leave him for later.

[Are we going to start interrogating the maid first?]

-Yes, I believe it is better to learn what happened from the maid first. What she says will probably have more than half of the story being the truth. The remaining parts could be bootlicking words to survive.-

[Is it me, or do I feel you matured all of a sudden? And... why do you appear more astute as well?]

Vincent chuckled at Kazumi’s comment. He arrived in front of the maid and asked with an intimidating frown, “Speak woman, tell me what happened here? Don’t you dare leave the slightest detail from me. I’m quite pissed at the moment after the goblins I tried so hard to save were brutally massacred as if they were insignificant.”

“I a want satisfying answer.” He emphasized.

The maid shuddered in fear, and a cold shiver ran down her spine. She immediately slammed on her knees and clasped her hands together.

“Please, don’t kill me. I remember how poorly I acted after you made my lady cry. But, I need to go back and look for my lady after she disappeared all of a sudden.”

“I threatened the group Blackheart sent to rescue my lady because I wanted to go with them and help...”

“As we traveled, I started to find it strange how they let me accompany them so easily and never tried to harras me. Not after they normally decline every time I ask to carry books for my lady.”

“But... I learned the truth this morning after the adventurers, and I woke up bound by ropes.” The maid begged while retelling what had happened with a saddened expression.

Between learning how this was all a scam, the death of many humans and goblins her eyes witnessed, and the vine monsters she only heard from her lady’s stories all transpired in one day.

The maid soon glared at the surviving guard and pointed at him. “That bastard looking at you is the leader of those basterds you, the female beastman, and the vine monster killed. He is one of the most trusted men of that bastard Demel Blackheart.”

“After they saw us struggeling to get out of the ropes, they told us how the rest of the guards came to have some fun and grab some loot. Then they revealed how we were drugged last night and told us how it was all planned to make money from the abundant adventurers.”

“One of them even revealed how they would sell the equipment and sell any unfortunate woman to join the quest into a slave...”

“It seems I was going to suffer the same fate as those two kind women who were drugged with the discussing aphrodisiac.” The elf maid then looked at Vincent with a determined gaze and begged, “Please, sir, what I said is the truth. I need to find my lady... she has no else to depend on... and after suffering for so much...”

*Gulp* The maid mustered all her courage and ended with, “If you plan to kill me... then can you kill me after I learn if my lady is safe. I won’t complain after that. I promise.”

[I guess you are almost right on the nail. What the maid said is quite believable, and the begging part was also in your estimation. So... now we go for the other one?]

*Sigh* “Let me kindly ask the bastard if what you said is true. ” Vincent turned around and walked over to the man lying on the ground.

[Hmm... it seems his leg was previously impaled, but he has already cut the vine and wrapped a belt around his leg. Maybe he knew he couldn’t run far since I can’t see any horse around here. No wonder he didn’t run away.]

“Hey, you! Do you remember me? You opened the door to your lord’s office last time I visited.” Vincent started the interrogation with.
