Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 76: Keeping You Alive Only Makes Food More Expensive

“Virtual Realm Turbulence? Virtual Realm Passage?”

Since this was considered obscure knowledge, Ashe wasn’t surprised that he didn’t know, nor did he find it strange that Igor was unaware. “It’s a rather rare Sorcerer Disaster. When sorcerers connect to the Virtual Realm through the Gate of Truth, some areas of the Virtual Realm are unstable. This can cause a backflow of knowledge into the Gate of Truth, leading to the corruption of space in the real world by the Knowledge of the Virtual Realm.”

Igor used a metaphor: “Imagine the Virtual Realm as a big jelly, and the sorcerer enters the jelly through a straw, usually without any issues. But if there’s an area of the jelly that’s rotten and dissolving, the fluid from inside can travel up the straw to the real world, corroding and punching a hole in reality… That’s what Virtual Realm Turbulence is.”

“As for the Virtual Realm Passage, it’s because this knowledge that flows into reality tends to return to the Virtual Realm. However, most of the turbulence dissipates quickly; only a dense part of the knowledge turbulence solidifies into a passage, attempting to return to the Virtual Realm.”

“But unclaimed knowledge can’t open the Gate of Truth, so it keeps rubbing against the periphery of the Virtual Realm, forming half-formed Virtual Realm Passages.”

“Half-formed?” Ashe was puzzled. “Then how does it become a complete Virtual Realm Passage?”

“Do you remember I said there’s a rotten area in the jelly?” Igor continued: “Therefore, the Sorcerer Disaster of Virtual Realm Turbulence often doesn’t just happen once or twice but occurs in batches all over the world. Any sorcerer who has been to a rotten area might trigger Virtual Realm Turbulence locally, forming various half-formed passages.”

“The target coordinates of these half-formed passages are the Virtual Realm Coordinates of the Gate of Truth. The closer the half-formed passages are to each other in terms of target coordinates, the more likely they are to combine with each other, forming a complete Virtual Realm Passage capable of traversing two places in reality.”

It sounded complicated, but Ashe grasped the concept using his rudimentary knowledge of mathematics and geometry: Half-formed Passage A wants to return to Virtual Realm Point C, forming an AC passage, while at the same time, Half-formed Passage B also aims to return to Virtual Realm Point C, forming a BC passage.

But since the Gate of Truth is not open, even if A and B wait miserably outside, C won’t come out. Then A and B, both being outcasts at the gates, lock eyes and decide to abandon C, forming a complete AB passage, and thus, their fates are happily sealed.

“So, you’re saying that the closer two sorcerers’ Gates of Truth are to each other, the easier it is to form a Virtual Realm Passage?”

Igor nodded: “That’s the idea, but it’s almost impossible to create a passage through this rule.”

Ashe’s expression turned grave: “Doesn’t that make sorcerers very vulnerable? If they open the Gate of Truth in a rotten area, won’t their bodies be swept into the Virtual Realm Turbulence?”

“Not at all, the Knowledge of the Virtual Realm will never harm sorcerers.”

“Why is that?”

“They are afraid of sorcerers,” Igor shrugged. “Even the spirits flee at the sight of us, so why do you think the knowledge that constitutes spirits would dare to harm sorcerers?”

An interesting assertion is that to the Virtual Realm, we Sorcerers are akin to raiders, and the Knowledge of the Virtual Realm that accidentally backflows into reality resembles refugees who have strayed into enemy territory. They are too busy running away to dare challenge the vicious raiders.

The Knowledge of the Virtual Realm often flees to areas where Sorcerers are scarce, such as underground or the skies, and then it settles down, altering the space, attempting to return to the Virtual Realm, thereby forming turbulence or a passage.

Igor described the disaster as weak, helpless, and somewhat endearing… Ashe glanced at the bustling registration point: “Is exploring a Virtual Realm Passage very dangerous?”

“I don’t know!” Igor admitted honestly: “But not all Virtual Realm Passages are complete. What do you think happens to the pioneers who step into a half-formed passage?”

“However, if they find a passage to another kingdom and successfully return, that achievement could indeed offset their death sentence.”

Ashe raised an eyebrow: “That sounds quite simple, doesn’t it? Just take a look, and if you’re not dead, run back. It’s a gamble on luck, so why is there a need for survival and escape abilities?”

Igor shook his head: “If the other side is an uninhabited area, then a prompt return is possible. But if it’s another kingdom, then the Volunteer definitely can’t return immediately.”

“Why not? Do Volunteers have to go through security checks when crossing the border?”

“Think about it from another perspective. Enemies from unknown kingdoms might also find a Virtual Realm Passage to the Blood Moon Kingdom. Wouldn’t you take precautions in advance?”

Ashe was about to ask how to guard against unknown enemies, but he suddenly fell silent—this is a world of Sorcerers filled with Miracles, where the only certainty is that nothing is absolute.

What seemed nearly impossible to Ashe might be as simple as burping after a meal for a high-level Sorcerer.

The gap in knowledge levels creates an insurmountable chasm between Sorcerers, just like Ashe still couldn’t understand how the neck chip managed to prevent him from farting in non-restroom areas.

“There is a global surveillance Miracle in the Blood Moon Kingdom. Once an outsider appears, the Church will quickly notify the nearby Sin Hunter’s Hall. At the same time, the Blood Moon bestows a curse, preventing the outsider from any spatial transfer or communication for forty-eight hours,” Igor said with his arms crossed. “When I was seven, an outsider appeared in Feimeng City, seemingly escaping near the Nursery where I was. The Blood Mad Hunter turned the Nursery upside down…”

“You’re not from Kaimon City?”

Igor shrugged: “Once the fools in Feimeng City were almost completely swindled, it was natural to venture into new markets.”

Without a doubt, the Virtual Realm Passage was a significant event that could affect the situation, but for the small escapee squad, it was meaningless and only made their recruitment more difficult.

Perhaps they will come tomorrow to look for Volunteers?

Perhaps there is a chance to return to society with dignity?

This sudden decree greatly demoralized the group of determined escapees. How would they continue their ideological work in the future?

Just as Ashe was at a loss and about to go eat some Lala Fatty to find inspiration, a commotion suddenly erupted at the registration point.

“Choose me, please choose me! I am the ‘Golden Beak’ from the Woodpecker Gang. I’m an expert in all sorts of assassination techniques, I really want to become a Volunteer, please pick me, boo hoo hoo—”

“Water Art, Gun Technique, Radiance Magic, Earth Magic, explosives, and trap-type Miracles… Your Magical Factions do meet the requirements, but you only possess One Wing of arcane energy, which doesn’t meet our minimum threshold for acceptance, sorry.”

Hearing this, the crowd couldn’t help but look at the tall man kneeling on the ground with astonished eyes.

Igor introduced him with a comment: “Golden Beak is the best assassin of the Woodpecker Gang. His targets have included many well-known figures such as councilors, politicians, and businessmen. The difficulty of his missions is definitely no less than assassinating a Two Wings Sorcerer. To be Golden Beak with only One Wing of arcane energy suggests he must have some unique capabilities in his profession.”

Ashe recognized the man: “Isn’t he Langna’s ‘buddy,’ Ronald Wade?”

“Yes, and he’s also a newcomer who joined this month,” Igor said with a subtle smile. “Otherwise, he wouldn’t have approached Langna… It looks like he’s realized something and is trying everything to save himself.”

“Save himself? Is he in danger?”

“Do you know Langna’s nickname?”

“I do, ‘Gourmet’ Langna. His nickname comes from his special predilection, right?”

Although Langna’s predilection is quite bizarre, this Prison is the ultimate Manure pit for a gathering of perverts. Even now, there’s an Ogre loitering in front of Ashe, so he can mention Langna’s little hobby without any emotional fluctuations.

“Most people only see the surface, but the reality is far more than that,” Igor wiggled his finger. “Langna doesn’t spare the insides either.”

“What’s the difference?”

“It’s very different. You see, Ronald may not have any wounds on the outside, but Langna has already eaten what’s inside of him.”

“…Is this some kind of sick joke?”

“Ashe, your comments make me feel that the Four Pillars Cult isn’t just a club for middle-aged greasy men to relax after work, keeping you alive only makes food more expensive,” Igor replied indifferently, revealing Langna’s horrifying and bizarre little secret.

Yet Ashe’s eyes grew brighter the more he heard.

Looking at Ronald, who was still persistently pleading, he said: “Perhaps, we’ve found our teammate.”
