Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 58: The Elven Sinner

Inside the Holographic Screen, Nago, wearing a pair of Golden Lion Cub socks, continued to host with utmost professionalism: “…The current highest vote-getter is Valcas Uhl. It seems the Audience is more inclined to grant redemption to this elven sinner.”

“Let me briefly introduce Mr. Uhl’s life story. He was born in the year 1542 at the Emerald Dragon Nursery. The Emerald Dragon Nursery might be unfamiliar to some, but it is the predecessor to the only dual first-class Nursery in Kaimon City today—the ‘Emerald Garden’ Nursery.”

“For the past three hundred years, the Emerald Dragon Nursery has been an Elves-exclusive Nursery, never admitting infants of other Races. However, in the year 1600, under the promotion of the ‘Racial Equality Rearing Act’, several Nurseries, including the Emerald Dragon, merged to form the multi-racial ‘Emerald Garden’ Nursery. To date, it has nurtured many distinguished individuals, with a Sorcerer training rate as high as 21%. If not for his criminal offenses, Mr. Uhl would have been one of the eminent descendants that Emerald Garden takes pride in.”

Although Ashe was unaware of what ‘dual first-class Nursery’ meant, he felt it was probably more significant than academic qualifications.

In the Blood Moon Kingdom, where all child-rearing is socialized and private child-rearing is illegal, Nurseries might very well be equivalent to a child’s family.

The more powerful the Nursery, the better the lineage it represented.

If Ashe wasn’t mistaken, Nurseries probably had ‘selective rights’ over the babies.

Although many factors influence a child’s development, in this world full of Miracles and Sorcerers, it isn’t impossible to use certain methods to select babies with better foundational qualities, greater potential, and superior dispositions.

A superior environment plus outstanding babies meant that children from excellent Nurseries were like snowballs, getting a head start from birth and steadily outpacing others.

If Ashe were an ordinary person living here, he would likely feel despair over this insurmountable gap.

After Nago finished outlining Valcas’s illustrious background, Ashe saw that Valcas’s vote count had increased by over ten thousand.

At that moment, Ashe began to vaguely sense why Valcas was winning the ‘favors’ of the Audience more than he was.

“After completing his foundational education at the Nursery, Mr. Uhl successively attended Atsen Secondary School and Kaimon City Comprehensive University. Over thirty years, he obtained Silver degrees in eleven fields including Swordsmanship, Painting, Sound Magic, and Earth Magic. He was then appointed by Kaimon Comprehensive University as a research Professor in the Biology Department and also served as an academic advisor for the Forest Biotechnology Company.”

“In 1645, Mr. Uhl was nominated as a councilor for Kaimon City. He narrowly missed the position by just three votes. This inevitably makes one wonder, had Mr. Uhl been elected, would he have remained virtuous and disciplined? Or could he have potentially committed even more severe crimes?”

“Overall, Mr. Uhl was once a citizen of superior origin, well-educated, and made many contributions to society. Unfortunately, he took a wrong turn, blinded by desire, and committed unforgivable crimes…”

“With only one minute left in the Voting Segment, those who haven’t voted yet, please hurry.”

“Every vote earns you Redemption Points, which can be redeemed for rewards with any brand participating in the Redemption Program. The latest brand to join the Redemption Program is Aezher Jewelry, where every 30 points can be exchanged for a discount coupon!”

“As the New Year turns, you can even use Redemption Points to enter the Blood Moon Lottery!”

“Don’t be stingy with your Redemption Ticket; it won’t grow into a baby if you hold onto it. If you don’t use it when it’s meant to be used, it loses its purpose!”

“Every vote you cast represents your effort to help purify a sinner, contributing a glimmer of light to the Blood Moon!”

“Thirty seconds left… Wow!”

With a cry of surprise from Nago, a fierce and brutal Executioner rose from the ground. It stood seven meters tall, with three heads and eight arms, each hand holding a different weapon. The three faces showed expressions of compassion, anger, and calmness, wrapped in an ethereal blue armor made of Flames of Atonement, descending like a deity incarnate, a spiritual embodiment of divine punishment!

“It’s over ahead of time!” Nago exclaimed excitedly: “Valcas Uhl has received 384,321 votes, surpassing the 50% threshold in Kaimon City, bringing the Voting Segment to an early end and moving straight to the execution phase!”

“This is the 23rd time in Kaimon City’s history that the Voting Segment has ended early! Ladies and gentlemen, standing before you is the legendary Executioner that has only appeared 23 times in the past!”

“Only when a single Prisoner accrues 50% of the votes will it emerge from the Blood Moon, representing the Blood Moon Sovereign’s mission to redeem humanity! The bane of evil, the purifier of sins, the nightmare butcher through history, the long-awaited emissary of justice, the Titan Executioner, descends!”

Clang!

As the Titan Executioner’s six eyes opened simultaneously, they made a sound like that of steel!

All three mouths opened at once, exhaling a long breath that stirred the air around it!

The Flames of Atonement around it spread like a storm, the eight Steel Wires lit up with blue flames, and amidst the flickering of the fire, they turned into a pathway of blue flame leading to the Main Platform!

A wild aura of despair, destruction, and overwhelming force hit everyone in the face, and all the Death row inmates trembled and hid at the edges, as if fearful of attracting the Titan Executioner’s attention.

Ashe glanced at Valcas and instinctively took a step back.

“Get lost, don’t get in my way,” Valcas said coldly.

Every cell in Ashe’s body was urging him to run away. After all, both Valcas and the Titan Executioner were so powerful that his presence made no difference.

But when he looked down, he noticed Valcas’s hand on the hilt of his sword was trembling.

After a few seconds, Valcas turned to Ashe, who was shivering beside him, and scoffed, “Really? Are you so scared that you can’t even run?”

Ashe was also holding a longsword, his hands shaking it into a blur as he spoke, his teeth chattering, “When I was in school, I noticed some students had no one to play with. They would go to the Restroom alone during breaks, stand aside during PE, and had no one to team up with during spring and fall outings… I would always specifically seek them out to play, chat with them, play ball, and team up with them and the teacher…”

“Hypocrisy,” Valcas sneered. “You’re just satisfying your condescending compassion, obtaining the Audience’s admiration through pity, gaining psychological fulfillment by giving them alms, and even satisfying your pathetic desire for control by manipulating them. You’re no different from a Slave owner, except the chains you put on them are called friendship instead of violence.”

“Yeah, I know I’m just a pretender, an actor who despises certain traits in them, yet I engage with them to satisfy those darker thoughts. That’s why I’ve rarely contacted them after growing up,” Ashe said. “But at a reunion, a classmate told me he was grateful that I was willing to play with him back then. If it wasn’t for me, he might have remained reclusive… He’s now found a girlfriend, is planning to marry, and even wants to invite me to be his best man…”

Valcas raised an eyebrow, a hint of confusion on his face: “Marriage, best man?”

“In any case…” Ashe’s body shook less as he looked towards the distant Titan Executioner. “Consider it indulging my hypocrisy, let me stay here for a bit. When it comes, I’ll leave.”

“Boring, irrational, meaningless. I can’t understand why you’re doing this, especially since we were just in a Deathmatch yesterday… Or are you trying to cultivate a benevolent persona in front of the Audience to lay the groundwork for the next Blood Moon Tribunal?”

“So there’s that strategy, thanks for the reminder. I definitely have to stay until the last second before I run, don’t get in my way then, and don’t worry about me. A hypocrite like me will definitely run faster than anyone when danger comes.”

Valcas fell silent for a moment, calmly watching the oppressive Titan Executioner.

“Suit yourself.”

Ashe tried to muster a smile, but the heavy footsteps of the Executioner made his scalp tingle.

Boom!

Boom!

The Titan Executioner took step by step, the intense vibrations traveling along the Steel Wire to the platform, causing the Death row inmates to stagger and struggle to stand.

As it walked, it raised its weapons, each one manifesting Quadruple-winged spirits, the space it swept through collapsing, the time it traversed distorting, the whole world seemingly revolving around it!

“The Titan Executioner is different from other Executioners,”

Nago’s voice came from the Holographic Screen, especially clear under the terrifying pressure.

“It doesn’t awaken the conscience of the sinner with whipping like the Tyrant Executioner; nor does it cleanse the sins of the criminal with blood like the Blade Executioner; nor does it let the criminal empathize through endless nightmares like the Soul Siphon Executioner…”

“It grants the sinner instant Redemption with the most powerful Miracle. Regardless of whether they are male or female, strong or weak, it gives its all, the utmost effort, to show the greatest respect for each life.”

“With a solemn death, it forges the immortality of the Blood Moon.”

“Faced with the Titan Executioner, most criminals choose to revolutionize their hearts and accept the Redemption of the Blood Moon. However, Mr. Uhl seems to be planning to cooperate with the Titan Executioner, to present us with a splendid performance.”

Ashe turned his head to see Valcas already assuming a sword stance, his Two Wings flaring out as a sparkling Two-Winged spirit danced on the tip of his sword!

“Although no one has ever escaped the Blood Moon Tribunal, no criminal has ever given up hope for a Miracle,” Nago said loudly. “Let’s see if Valcas Uhl can create a Miracle!”

“Or will he kneel in repentance before the justice of Kaimon City?”

Boom!

Another thunderous footstep shook the ground. Ashe was getting used to it, but this time, dozens of Crimson Chains burst from the ground, pulling him down and forcing him onto his knees!

“What is this?!” Ashe struggled desperately, but he couldn’t break free from the chains. They seemed to grow from his joints; whenever Ashe tried to stand, the chains savagely pulled on his joints and nerves, causing so much pain that he dared only to crouch and kneel.

“The first Miracle, Judgment of the Earth!” Nago announced. “The footsteps of the Titan are the footsteps of justice, and the earth responds to this hope!”

Cling! Cling! Cling!

Valcas swung his longsword, cutting through the Crimson Chains. He saw Ashe caught in the trap and seemed to want to help him, but at that moment, the night sky suddenly filled with a howling sound!

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Valcas suddenly performed a swift and graceful Elven sword dance on the spot, as if fighting against invisible enemies. Ashe focused and realized that intangible Wind Blades were sweeping in from all directions; if Valcas stopped, he would meet a fate of being torn apart!

Wait, why is only Valcas getting hit, and I’m not affected?

“The second Miracle, Judgment of the Sky!” Nago declared. “All stubborn fools who refuse to kneel in repentance will receive the admonition of the sky!”

“When the sky and earth complete the blockade, the third Miracle will follow: Judgment of the Masses!”

“The Titan Executioner will grant death equally to every Redeemed!”

Ashe lifted his head and realized that the Titan Executioner had already covered most of the distance, only two or three steps away from the Main Platform!

From his position, kneeling and looking up, the Titan Executioner seemed even more massive and terrifying!

The oppressive force of such an enormous entity was nearly paralyzing, almost freezing his thoughts!

The last shred of reason in his mind roared frantically: Run!

Right, run…?

Ashe glanced at the Crimson Chains on his body and blinked his eyes.

Oh dear, oh dear.
