Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 119: Silver Wings!

“Why is it that sorcerers can’t find even the slightest trace of the theoretically immense Golden Fish?”

“Why does the Virtual Realm say the Golden Fish is right above the ocean, visible without any Ritual?”

“There’s only one answer.”

Ashe murmured, “We are inside the Golden Fish, the Time Continent is above the white mist.”

Sonya instinctively wanted to pick holes in the theory, but when she matched it with the information she knew, she found that every detail aligned, perfectly explaining the truth about the Golden Fish!

“That’s right,” she suddenly recalled: “Didn’t the only Sorcerer Handbook I’ve read mention explorers finding the Golden Fish and climbing over eight hundred layers, yet still not managing to reach the top?”

“Thinking about it, if the Golden Fish truly had more than eight hundred layers of such magnitude, even with white mist as cover, the sorcerers would have found some trace… And the only place in the Sea of Knowledge that one cannot reach even after climbing more than eight hundred layers would be…”

“The sky.”

The two stared blankly at the white mist-filled sky.

After a while, Sonya asked dazedly, “But how are we supposed to climb up there?”

Yeah, how could they climb into the sky?

Even though they knew the Time Continent was right above them, and climbing up would make them Two Wings sorcerers, where was the path?

There was no ladder hanging down from the sky, no tower on the ground to ascend to the heavens, and the Sea of Knowledge lacked any natural features rising more than a meter above sea level.

They weren’t like explorers skilled in Earth Magic of the Earth Faction, capable of raising a structure from flat ground; their only method to increase height was to have the Substitute at the top, the Swordswoman standing on the Substitute’s shoulders, and Ashe atop the Swordswoman’s shoulders.

Could Ashe summon thousands of Substitutes to stack up? That wouldn’t work either, because he only possessed a ‘Substitute’ spirit, not the ‘Multiple Substitutes’ Miracle, meaning he could only summon one Substitute.

When Ashe summons a second Substitute, the first one disappears. To summon two at once, his best bet would be to find a second spirit and then use both spirits together to activate the Double Substitute Miracle.

Thus, the use of a spirit is a skill that is broad in some aspects and conservative in others.

“Is there any Flight Miracle?” Ashe asked.

“Flight Miracles at the One Wing level are quite rare,” Sonya shook her head. “Most mobility miracles at the One Wing level are about rapid ground movement, and even if they allow for temporary levitation, it’s just to get over obstacles, not for true flight.”

“Even advancing to Two Wings doesn’t improve the situation much; at best, movement becomes faster, uses less arcane energy, and is more agile in changing directions. True Flight Miracles become common only at the Tri-wings Sanctuary level.”

“Why is that?”

“Because reaching the Tri-wings Sanctuary requires fully unfolding both Silver Wings and Golden Wings,” Sonya raised her hands and mimicked the flapping of wings. “Do you think a Sorcerer’s virtual wings are just for show?”

“Ah? Aren’t virtual wings meant to intimidate opponents? Before a battle, everyone compares their virtual wings—the more and the more complete, the stronger one is.”

“That’s just a sociological use. Real virtual wings are a manifestation of a Sorcerer’s accumulated knowledge. Each virtual wing can greatly assist a Sorcerer…”

“Great assistance?” Ashe was puzzled as he unfolded his Silver Wings. “What other help does it provide besides keeping me from having to turn on the light when I go to the Restroom at night?”

“The blessing of Silver,” Sonya spread her hands. “Haven’t I told you before? Fully unfolding Silver Wings only proves that our Silver Arcane Energy has reached its limit. When we successfully get promoted to Two Wings, leave the Sea of Knowledge, and arrive at the Time Continent, the Silver Wings will shine brightly—that’s when Silver Wings are in their perfect state.”

“Shimmering Silver Wings grant a Sorcerer an eternal blessing, often related to their Major Faction. Even a Sorcerer newly promoted to Two Wings can gain a battle power increase of over 20%, and with some luck, even up to 100%.”

Ashe realized, “No wonder you’re so tired tonight but still insisted on searching for the Golden Fish…”

An increase of 20% to 100% in battle power could be crucial for his escape plan the next day. If it’s for the blessing of Silver, it’s definitely worth giving everything he has.

Sonya felt the effects of the alcohol surging again in reality, her cheeks slightly flushed: “I’ve told you, I just want to see the Time Continent’s scenery as soon as possible… and you promised to help me fulfill my dream. Finding the Golden Fish is part of that dream, so you’re definitely coming with me.”

“That’s true. So when are you going to sing for me? I need to judge if I’ve taken on a dirty job that goes against my conscience based on your singing.”

“So that’s what you’re holding over me, huh? Fine, here goes, ‘I feel so light, not a weight on me…’”

“Sorry, I was too arrogant. Let’s talk about the Flight Miracle, the Flight Miracle.”

At that time, Ashe also resolved a doubt he had long harbored. He had always felt that his Silver Wings were somewhat inferior to the Silver Wings that Valcas had shown before; not as bright, not as firm. He had thought it might be a lighting issue, but it turned out to be a matter of maturity.

Without having opened the door to the new world for a day, his Silver Wings were still the untouched wings of a virgin, not the mature virtual wings.

Sonya paused, “After a Sorcerer obtains perfect Two Wings, they not only receive the Silver and Golden blessings brought by the virtual wings, but also experience a qualitative change due to the duality of the virtual wings, allowing the Sorcerer to soar in reality using their wings. For this reason, most Flight Miracle requirements are at least Tri-wings Sanctuary, and at the very least, complete Two Wings.”

In simple terms, the Flight Miracle is akin to luxury cars and yachts, accessible only to Wealthy individuals with Tri-wings or higher, and there’s no intention to develop a budget version that the less affluent could enjoy.

She looked up at the overcast sky, “Even if we find a Flight Miracle that One Wings can use, but Explorers have built towers eight hundred layers high that can’t be climbed to the top, and even if we exhaust all our arcane energy, we probably can’t fly that high.”

“The easiest way for a Sorcerer to fly is undoubtedly with virtual wings, without a doubt. Knowledge is truly our lightest set of wings.”

Ashe stood up and let his Silver Wings flutter, which only caused the Boat to rock slightly without any effect.

Sonya said in resignation, “Even if you haven’t learned Wind Magic, you should know that you need a pair of wings to fly, right?”

A look of puzzlement crossed her face, “If Flight Miracle can’t fly that high, and Earth Magic can’t build a tower reaching to the heavens… then how did those legendary Sorcerers, who are said to have found the Golden Fish and successfully sneaked onto the Time Continent, manage to climb there? Are we thinking about it wrong, or is there a stairway to heaven above the Sea of Knowledge, or perhaps there’s a way to get a pair of wings in advance?”

“If all that’s needed is a pair of wings…” Ashe said softly, “We have them too.”

“We?”

Sonya was startled, then saw the Observer point to his own Silver Wings and then to her Silver Wings.

“That’s outrageous…”
