Chapter 54: Chapter 54 – The Protective Medallion

A large dingy clock in the shop’s corner rang seven. Its huge pendulum moved twitchingly from left to right.

Feng watched this with a slight frown. ‘It’s seven.... wait a minute... it is possible i failed last re-spawn because this task is time restricted?’

It was a big possibility because the second time around the slavers were all apprehended. Even their ships were destroyed and burned down to the bones.

‘Why didn’t I think of this before!! Darn it, that means I can’t waste my time here. By seven thirty my live count will strike zero!!!!’ she stood up and ran to Yubiri. “Sire yu, what had caught your interest?”

“Oh, this golden medallion is in fact a magic artefact. It is weak because it is incomplete,” he held up the ring-shaped medallion up in the light. It was as big as his palm.

Feng curiously looked at it as well.

He slightly caressed the small mechanical teeth like engagements in the middle of the medallion with an astonished look. “I reckon that this is a part of a three-piece medallion enchanted with different magic spells.”

.....

the clock was ticking and ten minutes hand moved closer to three.

‘if my theory is correct, I only have fifteen minutes more,’

Feng gulped slightly and nodded. ‘What is with him, ah? He is being so long winded with his explanations today..... Please just buy the thing already.’ She kept nodding.

“This one has a shield spell infused inside the metal when it was processed and shaped into this ring.... what a wonder...,”

The word shield stuck her mind. “Shield?”

“Yes, it can shield you from any kind of danger. And I have checked it personally the spell inside of it is still undamaged A grade standard,” Yubiri said with a soft smile.

Feng glanced at the slightly rusted piece of metal in awe. ‘Why did I forget these?’

These kinds of artefact exited in this world. If one is rich enough, they can easily buy them.... but... she patted her empty pockets.

‘I’m a pauper. A mere slave in this world. Oh, how unfair. Even I want to enjoy the life of magic.’

“Here.” the medallion was pushed to her face.

Feng took it from him with a slight frown.

Assuming that he wanted her to inspect it she checked it in all directions and she handed it back. “it’s good,”

“It’s for you,” Yubiri slightly blushed.

“M-me? it’s this costly.. why...”

“I told you i would like to buy you a friendship gift,” Yubiri chuckled nervously. “it looks quite unsightly now, but after reaching our ship I will cleanse it for you.” he held it, but Feng gripped it tight.

“How about lady Hiliana hold on to it for us?”

“Yes... as you wish,” Yubiri happily parted with the medallion.

Feng ran to Lady Hiliana and handed it to her. “Lady, keep this for me... if in danger this medallion can save you.”

“But it’s your gift, dear,” the lady tried to pin it on her shoulders, but she resolutely refused.

“You have to have it. Just for today. You and Elle need to have it,” she said with a serious look.

The old lady peered at her without a word and finally relented.

Chuckling, Feng sat down next to her, letting out a deep breath. ‘Now the old lady will be safe of the whole slavers group decides to attack, but what about the kids though,’ she glanced at them two who were sitting silently next to her.

The twins did not even bother looking up.

Feng wanted to console them but the huge ass ugly clock rung seven twenty.

‘I don’t have enough time.’

“Let’s buy you a pen.” she carefully pulled the lady to the shop and the others naturally followed.

And so lady Hiliana went about with her shopping while Feng had her gaze on the streets. No suspicious figures were lurking nearby.

Everything seemed normal and cheery, with the little kids outside happily chewing the red sweets.

‘By the way, how did Aiden convince the couple to buy him those sweets,’ she glanced down to find only Ethan next to her.

Aiden was busy talking with the sweet young lady and her husband.

Feng watched how he froze the rose and murmured something to the young man. He left the store briefly and came back with a paper bag behind his back. The young man then handed it to Aiden with a cheerful smile.

‘Oh.. That’s how he earned it.... it so sweet.. My babies have grown a lot,’ she gently held Ethan’s hand.

He glanced up with a pout and leaned onto her shoulders. “You ignored me the entire day....”

‘It’s because I was on the edge about something.’ well she naturally could not tell a child that. She silently patted his blond head. “I’ll tell you a secret when we return to the ship, yeah?”

Ethan nodded with a shy smile. “Don’t ignore us like that...”

“Never.” Feng kissed his forehead.

Yubiri, who was watching this, subtly clenched his fist. The pen that he was holding in hand snapped in two pieces.

“sir that was a limited edition pen form Farifa... it even had leak proof spell on it..” The shop grumbled at him loudly.

Yubiri handed him 20 quils which silenced the shop keeper. ‘These two are getting on my nerve. I should probably think of a way to send the off to a boarding school far away,’

“Oh, it’s getting dark we should get going now,” lady Hiliana next to him gently whispered.

And so they all left the shop.

Feng’s nerves were strung up and nervous because she knew what would happen in few minutes....

Just like last time, Aiden surprised her with a bag of sweets. She kissed his forehead and thanked him.

The sweets got distributed to all, and the old lady was surprised at how this kid managed to buy it.

The young couple were more than happy to explain how Aiden had earned his money.

‘It’s gonna be now.... goodness.’

With her trembling hands, she folded the wrappers into smaller shapes and gripped it in her hand. Her legs quivered just looking at the dark alley. ‘Do I need to go there... should I just ask Yubiri for help?’

She glanced up at him. “I-I....”

Feeling her weird stare, he squatted down to her height and cradled her hand. “What is bothering you, Miss Feng?”

“C-can I ask you for a favour?” she hesitantly looked at him and then at the alley. “I feel someone looking at us...”

Yubiri slightly frowned. He could feel a figure lurking in the dark. ‘Looks like I was too distracted...’ he gently kissed the back of her hand. “I’ll take care of it for you. Stay here yes?”

“Careful,” Feng held the twins close to her, and Alvin also got a hold of Elle’s hand.

Right then the clock stuck seven thirty.
